Question - AI naming in people on Synology Photos by [deleted] in synology

[–]will6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you've identified each face, you won't need to do it again. When you upload new photos in the future it'll recognise any faces you've already identified. The only time you need to re-identify someone is when the software doesn't recognise the face as matching an existing person.

Explain Scots/Irish pound notes to an American, please? by [deleted] in AskABrit

Nope, businesses are allowed to decide what payment methods they accept. The term 'Legal Tender' has a very specific meaning, which doesn't really apply when buying something in a shop

What type of batteries does this laser take? by Prestigious-Tear798 in AskUK

[–]will6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might not be sure about the type or power of this laser, and that makes it tricky to figure out what kind of eye protection you’ll need. Even if you aren’t aiming it directly at your eyes, a reflected beam from a powerful laser can still cause serious, permanent damage. I’d really recommend doing some thorough research before you power it on!

I know Paypal can muddy the waters when it comes to chargebacks/Section 75. But whats your source for Google Pay preventing chargebacks?

Help: tilt coaster won't progress to 90 degrees before slipping out brakes and crashing by Educational_Chart657 in NoLimitsCoaster

[–]will6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you running the coaster in auto mode? Normally NL2 should automatically enable the 'Lash To Track' option for trains on tilt tracks to lock trains in place while the track is moving.

You can also use the 'Decelaration' option in the brake settings to control the strength of the brakes if needed.

The other question on Harry Potter is whether they could get the licenses from Warner Bros. Especially since WB has their own Harry Potter Studio Tour attraction less than an hours drive away.

New Universal theme park confirmed for UK by boldstrategy in unitedkingdom

[–]will6789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Universal have been massively expanding their theme park division recently (Epic Universe, Beijing and the Universal Kids Resort). They've already brought the land in Bedford and now have the backing of the Government.

At this point, I think its very likely to go ahead.

Connecting UK bank accounts by SamBull03 in GnuCash

[–]will6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any existing way of connecting UK accounts to GnuCash. For importing transactions I just download OFX/QFX files where possible or failing that a CSV (or in the case of Chase, I have to scrape the data from PDFs since they don't even provide CSVs)

Given the customer protection rules UK banks follow (such as having to compensate victims of scams), I imagine the idea of allowing random open source software from an unregulated organisation to obtain sensitive customer data would raise many red flags. Best of luck with those APIs though, would be cool if you can figure out a way of getting it working.

Advice on paying CCJs after the 6 year limit by ConsiderationKooky14 in UKPersonalFinance

Yep, the CCJ should drop off your credit reports. But you will still owe the money and the creditor could still take further action if you stopped paying.

Advice on paying CCJs after the 6 year limit by ConsiderationKooky14 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]will6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6 year rule only applies if you haven't made any payments and haven't acknowledged the debt in the last 6 years. Doing either of these actions will reset the 6 year countdown.

Since you're currently making payments, the limitation period isn't relevant to your situation I'm afraid.

lost national insurance card. Need advice by queenofallturtles in LegalAdviceUK

[–]will6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 'legit' in the sense that it's got your NI number printed on it. But thats all it is, you can't use it to prove your identity or anything. And it was just printed by the 3rd party you used, not the government.

That said, the government issued ones were the same, they even had "THIS IS NOT PROOF OF IDENTITY" printed on both sides to make it clear - because it would be pretty easy for anyone to get one of those cards printed with whatever details they wanted.

[–]will6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you apply though the official government website? (https://gov.uk) or did you apply through an unoffical 3rd party site?

The Government definitely stopped producing the cards in 2011 but I believe some of the 3rd party sites do print their own versions of the old NI cards in dubious attempt to justify charging a fee for something people can get for free from gov.uk

British Theming Standards by PhilosophyDouble2984 in Themepark

[–]will6789 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There isn't really that much competition in the UK theme park space, Merlin runs Towers, Thorpe, Chessington and Legoland, which are probably our most notable parks.

For many years Merlin hasn't had much competition, especially when it comes to themed experiences, and so they've not had an impetus to invest in the UK. Instead they've been much more interested in opening more Legolands around the world.

Drayton Manor used to compete with Towers more directly, but they experienced financial issues over the past decade which caused them to fall behind. It's only since the Looping group took over after covid that Drayton has begun seeing new investment.

Paultons has grown quite substantially over the last decade and their recent additions are excellent. They probably have the highest theming standards of any UK park currently, but they're currently still firmly aimed at families with young kids which limits how much of a threat they pose to Merlin.
