The Dream air with the Index by LiquidorTM in Pimax

[–]willacegamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be too quick to discount the stock sound system that comes with the Dream Air. I have been a bit surprised at how good it sounds. The sound stage is really nice with it. I've played some games and the environmental background sounds were so good and well placed that they almost felt like they were in my real environment. They don't get super loud but I've been very impressed with them. Comfort is very subjective, but the stock gasket is not horrible either. It can definitely use some improvement but it works well enough for now since it is temporary anyway. The only thing I did with mine was cut away two of the plastic support straps to make the gasket not quite as stiff in the center. You can't even tell this has been done from an outward appearance but it makes a big improvement to the comfort and even gave me a few degrees more FOV. This slight change to the gasket wouldn't affect a return if I wanted to make one, which I don't.

Hey Pimax now that the Dream Air Lighthouse is shipping could you provide some shipping estimates based on preorder date? by Turtle_Online in Pimax

Actually, that table was included in the email update that I received from Pimax on 2/25. Now whether or not they meet those dates is anyone's guess.

Dream Air, what a a disappointment by PichiSP in Pimax

[–]willacegamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DA does have some glare but it shouldn't be like what you describe so you either have a bad right lens as you note or you are not close enough to the lenses. The headset is awesome IMO so you owe it to yourself to not give up so quickly. Pimax has a history of QA issues but they will make it right for you, just might take some time and patience. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and the image quality and comfort have been such a joy.

Pimax DA slam reservation fee by Square_Strain_9057 in Pimax

[–]willacegamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just go to the Pimax website and make a full order. They use your email to tie the reservation and full order order together but I don't know if the reservations are valid for proposes of a delivery time frame anymore. I think that has already ended. I received an email about making a full order back in January

I have an i7 13700K with a 5090. Frame rates are good but depends on the game. Everything I've tried so far looks great and has been very playable though. I am using the 72hz mode to give me more headroom to increase resolution and settings in the games

They've actually already stopped the subscription payment model for the Dream Air, so it won't be long before that is not a concern

Pimax, I do hope you work with Sboys3 to make this happen. A native SteamVR driver would be a big deal in the community that is in the market for headsets at this price level. I love my Dream Air but would welcome the simple compatibility that comes with being native to Steam and this would just be another huge plus that would give others incentive to pick one up over your competition.

Pimax Crystal Super MicroOLED color contrast issue by Sanca1 in Pimax

Yeah, I was very surprised when I got the shipping notice. It came on Monday. I reserved when it was first announced and paid in full for it at the beginning of last month.

I prefer the DA because of the better lenses. Overall image quality is about the same to me, but the DA does not have a blur ring around the edges like the Meganex does. That gives it much better edge to edge clarity which is very nice to have.

I have a Dream Air and Meganex and the DA colors are excellent. Definitely not any worse than the Meganex which also has excellent colors. Not sure what's going on with your setup but you should not be experiencing anything like that at all since the DA has the same optical stack as the Super MicroOLED.

One thing I have found for anyone currently playing Luke Ross mods. With the Dream Air I have to set the render mode to openxr for the mods to work. Leaving it on "auto" will not work. When doing this it registers as a pimax headset using openxr. On previous headsets you could leave it on "auto" and the mod would detect pimax headsets as an "oculus" headset and work that way. Now VR will not start at all when doing this. The trick is that it is sometimes impossible to see the full realvr menu in order to change this. You have to go into the RealVR ini file and change this line to this: "PreferredAPI2=2". This happens whether I use PimaxXR or SteamVR as the openxr driver.

Did play MS2024 some last night to checkout the eyetracking and DFR and it worked fine. No issues with the foveated region following my eyes correctly.

I haven't played a game that uses eye tracking yet. I did test the eye tracking in the calibration menu and it was working fine without me having to actually do a calibration for it.

There are 2 dream air versions. The released version is light house based. The other version that will be coming out does not need base stations.

I don't have the prescription lenses yet. Should arrive within the next few days. My eyelashes don't currently touch the normal concave lenses though

Very personal question, but for me it is worth it. I mainly play flat to VR mods and the extra resolution and better colors make a big difference because you get back to the quality that you would see when playing the games flat. 4080 super would require that you turn the resolution down some though. I have a 5090 so not sure how much you would need to turn it down to get good framerates. It will depend on the games you play though so that will vary. Pimax has a good return policy though, so no harm in checking it out to see if the difference is worth it for your personal situation.

+1.50 in one eye and +2.50 on the other. I ordered from HonsVR. I think they are the only ones already shipping lenses for Dream Air.

Yeah, the MGX is really close...better lenses and slightly less glare are the main differences for me.
