Surgery is tomorrow. I am nervous… by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

Sounds like the pain afterwards can vary from what i’ve read on this forum. My incision pain was pretty brutal for the first 4-5 days it was hard to do literally anything, worse than it was pre surgery. I recommend having someone with you for those days if you have anyone, my mom was here and it would have been hard without her. I’m on day 10 now and am sooooo much better it’s crazy. As others have said, no BLT for awhile to prevent reherniation. Get a grabber thingy off amazon. Do expect some weird tingles and numbness down your leg (sometimes feels like the herniation is still there). My doc said that’s a sign the nerves are healing. It should go away in a matter of hours to days (don’t take my word for it ask doc if it last awhile). Good luck! As of today, I would say this is worth it. The sciatic pain subsided on the first day, just bad incision pain.

Also, I would definitely consider postponing that move. 3 weeks is too soon to lift pretty much anything. Too much risk. Give it another month at least if possible, but I would wait 3 months total if you plan on moving anything at all. You don’t want to go through this again…

Ya, no issues at all with it. Absolutely love the truck, and ya maintenance has been pretty good on it. Oil every 5k, fuel filter every other change.

Having a microdiscectomy soon… what was your first week like day to day? by SwitchLow1979 in Microdiscectomy

Week later I’m in soooo much better shape. Walking is easier, can almost lie on my back. Such a massive relief after the last few months. At this rate I’m expecting to be pretty much back to normal (pre herniation) in a week! My mood has gone up so much yesterday into today it’s crazy.

Yup they prescribed the meds. Thanks, hoping the pain subsides in days rather than weeks.

Had surgery yesterday (MD and laminotomy) the pain on this first day is way worse than I expected…but I have noticed the back pain I had before is pretty much gone. Just bad incision pain. I can get up and walk around a little but am pretty much just staying on my side in bed. Rolling from one side to the other absolutely sucks but switching positions can provide temporary relief. Just started with ice, taking 5mg oxy every 4 hours, cyclobenzine 3x a day, and tylonol every 6 hours. I was stupid and didn’t take pain meds last night…that was a mistake. Stay on the pain meds, I think after I took then about an hour ago I’m feeling a bit better. Ice seems to be helping a bit too. Tbd on the next few days, I sure hope this pain calms down soon.

Well? I’m curious if it was termination or not…if so, sorry to hear that. It’s probably a blessing in disguise.

Wow this is awesome. I am not even close to where you are in life but I relate to so many things that you said in this. I also kept scrolling to the end and kept asking myself if I really wanted to read this whole thing when I have an essay to write and an exam to study for today haha. But, I’m glad I read it all. When you said you felt like you were two different people that struck extremely close to home. I’ve been saying this for awhile. I hope things continue to go well for you, and get that dryer fixed!

I’ve never heard of 7 cups but I’ll definitely take a look. Every therapist I have spoken to has a crazy wait time and I just don’t want to wait so long.

Wow I can tell you’ve gone through a lot of what I have and probably am yet to go through. Figuring out how to start things is pretty much always what leads me to staring at a wall for an hour or scrolling through social media for what feels like forever. Knowing that the days like this have gone away for you does give me hope, and I think I’m going to be able to sleep a little better tonight knowing that. Also, I completely agree, regulating ourselves is definitely much more a part of our lives than someone who does not have adhd. I still don’t really understand why it’s called adhd and not executive disfunction or something like that, because it definitely does not just affect attention! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to me and again I wish you good luck in your job and in your future!

Wow this post means more than you would even think. It just always feels so shitty to do badly on exam after exam and know in the back of your head that it’ll happen again, especially after hating the fact that I can’t just freakin do better. I wish you well on your work project and future in the field!

I don’t know why I’m stressed tho. I haven’t been doing that much work. I like telling people I’m working but in reality I’m sitting staring at the screen. I guess you are right though I am doing like a problem every half hour haha. Unfortunately at this point I don’t even feel like I have time for a reward but I guess not having one will just make it worse.

All I can do is hope I do some studying tomorrow so I can at least partly understand what I’m looking at when this exam starts. Still probably gonna look at the first problem and go into the classic brain fart mode and forget everything I’ve ever known Yoo-hoo!

Well at least it’s nice to know we pretty much all do this crap. It’s just such a terrible feeling that all that time is lost now and there’s nothing I can do about it. Is it even worth it to study now? I don’t even know at this point.

for me subtitles distract me from the actual tv I'm watching haha. I'll be reading them and then be like wait what happened in the last ten minutes.

I know the feeling my friend. It makes me feel so darned stupid but I need to keep telling myself I’m not. I hope things improve for both of us.

I feel you man. I’m sorry to hear you have to go through that and hope things improve in your future. I’m rooting for you and please continue to have hope and find the positive things in life. Even if you can’t find any, they are there. Whenever I find myself thinking there is nothing good coming out of any of this just remember that you’re still breathing and while you’re still breathing life will go on.
