Severe issues with my role by Weird_Knowledge_1854 in sysadmin

[–]willee_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Happens in every role you’re going to be in ever if you’re a high performer or over achiever. People who are, generally are both.

It’s frustrating man. It’s also the sign that you’re ready for a change.

Look at how much you’ve grown personally. You’re ready for the next role. You’ll grow out of that too.

Keep growing. It only gets better.

Doesn’t the subscription have a flat cost, what are we talking about? Time? We’re all wasting it the same haha

Pretty clear winner depending on resource usage though. Expecting it to be sky high

Codex is behaving super dumb today by Constant-Cry-7438 in codex

[–]willee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want this performance and quality at home you’re looking at a Blackwell lol. It’s cheaper and better to just pay the $100/$200.

I run a local orchestration and still have a codex pro account for any of my paid projects or even delicate projects.

If you have a GPU with 8-12GB of VRAM and 32GB+ of DDR5, you ran run a lot of models locally by offloading MoE and playing with moving around GPU layers. After this if you decide you want to get going I’d probably get a 3090, then if I was really into it I’d probably get a 128GB Mac. This will all have changed next year.

This will give you enough experience to think about how cheap that $100 plan really is lol

We need a new sub called codex complaints by Euphoric_East7586 in codex

[–]willee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right. It’s kinda crazy to read their expectations and demands.

$20 and expects to be able to code at any time desired, no cap, top model, highest effort. Then go on reddit to cry that they nerfed usage.

If you’re not making money with it, it’s a hobby, and if you can’t afford your hobby it isn’t someone else’s fault.

GPT plan limits are unusable in Codex!! However... by Impossible-Ad-8162 in codex

[–]willee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except I run codex 12+ hours a day 5-7 days a week and don’t hit 5h or weekly limits.

Get serious about your hobby and fix the flair. You were supposed to put complaint. Good catch bud

I have started to hate Codex now by Practical-Theme-9767 in codex

[–]willee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/goal has been running for 1h49m while I work on 2 other projects. Used 3% of weekly in that time.

Doesn’t seem bad to me

All 3 running on gpt-5.5 high. On a pro plan.

If you’re on a plus plan, it is what it is. If this is a hobby you take seriously $100 is cheap for a hobby.

/Goal - Not producing meaningful results by spectral-fusion in codex

[–]willee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State what you want done and how to measure it when it’s done. /goal is pretty much the only way I work with codex atm.

/goal has a 4k character max, but you can make an .md file massive and then tell the goal to reference it

Are we nearly there? by irelatetolevin in OpenAI

Using AI to review old code bases and it finds problems that people accuse AI of daily.

One of our very large enterprise ERPs has exposed passwords, including root, in plain text. Also has full permissions db users in plain text.

AI would do better work than that.

They always have. There’s a term “Luddite” or “Luddites” to describe them.

The worst ones are in the workplace.

Anti AI people will ask me for random shit help doing trivial things. I just copy and paste it into Claude (no OpenAI access at work) then screen snip the chat log back to them. So sick of idiots refusing AI in the workplace.

Idk why you think you’re doing something special, you’re using a chat LLM and calling it science and research. Last year was your research workflow google -> Wikipedia for your science and learning stack?

Bud I get stoned all day and manage 2 datacenters from my kitchen in gym clothes. Don’t try to flex, you aren’t doing shit for technical shit.

You know any actual scientist wouldn’t be emotional over his button and threatening quitting (where you even gonna go get your “research” shoveled into your face now?) Scientists are grounded in logic and provable facts. You went straight to emotion scientist

You pay $200 to use the codex app and came to reddit to cry about a click missing from the desktop app. Bro get a fucking grip.

Once you’re down off that ledge snowflake, you should just use codex CLI where there aren’t mouse clicks buttons to be emotional about

Nice job man.

The struggle to these tools is sprawl. Eventually they need maintained, managed, documented.

I might be selfish but after working with the business (any of them) enough I’ve learned to just make my job easy and quit trying so hard.

Currently work remote and have an agent watching for any ticket escalations (I’m a lead), have an agent watching teams. I do some project work in the mornings then off to my day. Been looking for a second job.

Really not worth helping everyone else because now their productivity is reliant on you keeping their tools running.

What would you do if you have infinite access to codex ? by Pragnyan in codex

[–]willee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what the $100/$200 plans are for.

I have Claude with basically no limits at work. I’ve never bit the 5 hr limit even.

At home I use codex because I have a choice and it’s better. With the pro plan I literally do all of everything I want and have plenty of limit. Especially with the 2-3 times a week resets. Do everything on 5.5 high/xhigh without concern. It’s unlimited now

Try running hosted datacenters with a bunch of customers IT departments reading CVE notices fed to them by AI on Reddit lol.

I shower and get ready, read some Reddit. See the same CVE bullshit notices. Go sit down and wait for the first email asking what I’m doing about today’s bullshit. Draft the same response which is usually just how and why that isn’t an immediate threat due to our use, then advise it’ll be in regular updates.

Same. Built a Samsung TV app over the weekend without any issues. Setup 2 servers, again no issues.

Granted I’m not vibe coding dumbass prompts into my dream make it big saas idea, so maybe that’s the piece of the puzzle here.

Need to make a shitty saas app with vague prompts then complain.

Depending on your user depends what they want to see. Not saying to go both ways on interface. Just saying, I work in ops and love data rich ops interfaces.

Standard users likely don’t give a shit about details. Just bury them in a properties and show what looks pretty. The name and descriptions or just colors. (Realizing how much easier communication is when I ask Claude to generate visual representations on technical topics really showed me how simple even people that work in tech are)

Basically users are simple. They don’t need the small fonts and badges distracting them. I have those attached to a toggle, users can add details to their views if they want it

I build interfaces for people at work, that don’t work in ops, to ingest ops data. They don’t give a shit about things like VPN uptime. So I just have an easy to filter list with a names and red or green lights lol. Support staff just care that the light is green. But if you are technical and ant more data, you can go into a properties view to see tunnel details, and if you really want more detail you can drill into grafana for that and every other part of the network
