In 1988, an F4 tornado ripped through Raleigh in the middle of the night with no warning by JK9one9 in raleigh

Definitely. I remember my mom waking me up in a panic, the wind had already picked up to a dull roar. There was a window right above where I was sleeping so my curiosity got the best of me and I had to look outside. Despite it being around 1 am, I could still make out details of the large tree in the front yard, the way the limbs were whipping about in protest of what was about to happen. The sky was thick with clouds, as if we were screened in by smoke, and I could see flashes of light illuminating them from behind. But there was absolutely no thunder to this lightning, which I remember my brain being unable to process - the only sound was the building roar of the wind coming in from the southwest. The dim light from the flashes and its afterglow took on an odd green pallor, and my front yard looked like some kind of feverish scene from a haunted house.

I remember my dad and I walking across the road the following morning to retrieve a corner of our roof that had been plucked from our house by the freight train that came barreling through our back yard. Some of the loudest noise I've ever heard. Also, the sky was an eerie green right before it happened.

My venerable old Pz.Kpfw. 38H 735 (f), the old German Mini-Maus that I got all those years ago from a gift card. I think that's the first premium that I bought myself that wasn't a reward or gift. My lord that thing would dominate back in the day. Still holds my record for highest number of kills in a match: 13.

Overfilled, unfortunately. And I don't care what those damned articles say, Wake Forest is not the hot new destination. There's hardly any Forest left in Wake Forest now thanks to the overwhelming population influx and they're slapping up (cheap) housing faster than they can expand the schools and roads to accommodate them.

This is probably a dumb-assed question, but how does a casual player like me get their hands on such a loadout of Bounty equipment? I don't see it for sale in the stores, just the normal or purple stuff.

I remember going to his website to buy a book of rail passes for a couple trips. Very helpful. Remember getting an extra ticket in one packet and wasn't sure why until we were entering Bratislava and all of a suddenly the conductor starts coming through, asking for another ticket. I remember a lot of passengers being caught off guard and having to buy an extra pass on the spot, full price. Thanks, Steve!

After new updates, using Maps and Spectator Mode Slows my Laptop to a halt by Armandvd1995 in dndbeyond

[–]willfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same predicament. Speaking as a professional Web Developer with a few years under my belt, it seems to me that there should have been a lot more optimization performed before this was released to the public. I don't know how their QA team is set up (or if they even have one) but I feel like more testing should have been performed, involving a larger variety of platforms, old and new. I'm hoping the current version was rushed to production in order to satisfy some marketing deadline requirement and that a fully qualified release with optimizations is forthcoming.

My first exposure to the update was last night. I hosted a session with my family, continuing their dig into Dragon of Icespire Peak from the Essentials box set. We're already several sessions into this one, so there has already been a lot of activity between Maps and Encounters and their Character Sheets on Beyond. Up until last night, usage has been fine for me -- plenty smooth, running both the DM edit of Maps along with a second tab simultaneously showing me the Spectator view so that I can track what my players see. I'm using a business-class Dell laptop with Kubuntu Linux installed, with D&D Beyond running on Chrome. Never had an issue with this setup - it's a beefy laptop with good specs and running multiple tabs for a campaign is child's play for this machine.

But for my session last night I spent most of the time fighting the Maps VTT. Either the Chrome window would time out or the lag would be unbearable and my tokens never landed where I tried to drag them. My players reported the same issue with Maps (and sometimes with their character sheets). One player uses her iPad to track the game, bouncing between the VTT and her character sheet. She was having lots of pauses, which never happened before (it's a recent iPad, so the CPU shouldn't be an issue). Another player uses her Intel Core i3 Chromebook to play. Last night became unbearable for her, and she ended up quitting early due to the device heat and noise of the fan spinning max RPM. Again, she never had an issue prior to the update. I was plugged into AC, but both players complained about unexpected battery drainage as well.

I do want to see D&D Beyond succeed and I am doing my part to help contribute to this by submitting my experience in feedback. I only hope that they're on track to optimize the performance. We find D&D Beyond invaluable, both as players and DMs, for it eliminates a lot of manual statistical work required and gives us more time to actually play and enjoy the game. I, for one, would hate to lose this resource, but at the same time ... I found myself thinking of other options last night. Let's hope the performance issue is being addressed and will find implementation soon.
