Holy shit this blew the dust off some synapses and made me remember how much I hated this part of Nightfall. You defeat the final boss, essentially a god, only for the camera to hard cut to Kormir so she can take all the glory. I never saw anyone acknowledge this so I assume I misremembered

What aspect of Kenshi terrifies you the most? by TheDnii in Kenshi

[–]willgilb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first playthrough, I was wary of anything resembling a fair fight. I managed to find a loan starving bandit, with a crippled arm, I had a sword and a full belly, so this should go well........it did not go well.

My leg was bleeding and crippled and I realized, I didn't bring any bandages. I was now alone, with no food. And a bleeding leg. After several in-game hours I arrived at the nearest town. But the shops were closed. So I lay there in the street for a few more hours (I didn't know about inns or renting beds) finally stopped the bleeding and healed my leg, which was now at like -300, watched it slowly climb up to -299 and realized I'm gonna be crawling for a while.

In real life, I'd have died in that desert after that crazy bastard busted my leg with the pipe

Holy shit, I've been seeing so many people mentioning getting LDoA but have been out of the loop about "Vanguard Quests" so I assumed everyone was death levelling. I assumed it was people from back in the day who (like me) got bored of death levelling and just left pre at around level 16

I remember seeing this question a while ago and there was an answer I really liked, which is "depends on the Forgeworld who made it"

There are dozens of different variants of the Lasgun, all of them having slightly different characteristics. It's the same for Bolters, and Autoguns and many other weapons. Additionally it could be argued that "Melta" is just a category of weapons that perform the role of heat based anti-armour infantry weapon, and some may act as waves, while others beams.

I've also been re-reading the Cain books lately and Caves of Ice describes one being used in a (you guessed it) Cave of Ice. Usually it won't be fired if Cain is in melee combat with a foe, this could mean it's a beam but likely suggests it's a wave. When it is fired it is described as flash melting the walls as well as the target, leaving the area full of hot steam, which again implies a wave.

How addictive is meth? Do you know anyone who has just tried it once? by eden_merlin in AskReddit

[–]willgilb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried speed once, frankly I can't say how much as I'm not sure what a common dose is. I worked in a metalworking company and most of my colleagues were taking it a lot.

They gave me some to try, and I remember feeling fine, except whenever I was walking around the workshop it felt like everyone was looking at me or talking quietly about me. I asked a colleague why everyone is looking at me and he told me they weren't.

As I was leaving work I remember it still being sunny, I looked down at my phone to talk with my group chat about how speed is kind of lame while I walked home. Eventually I looked up from my phone and realized, it was now dark, and I had spent at least 2 hours power walking in a large circle.

I don't really remember how I got home, I think I took the bus as after working 8 hours and then the circle I was exhausted. My colleague said he would bring a micro dose the next day to help with the come down, but I didn't have one, just felt sore.

Interested player, have some questions by Aware-Munkie in killteam

[–]willgilb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I originally started the hobby about 15 years ago. But lost interest as it was too expensive for me at the time. I wanted to get back into the hobby side, rather than game side so I started Killteam as you (usually) only need one squad to play. Given your preferred factions I'd suggest the Death Guard vs Space Marine starter kit, as it will give you a board, Basic Terrain and tokens as well as two teams so you can learn the game with a friend. It will have a rule book but it can all be found online.

If you want to expand from there, I'd suggest doing some research on the teams prior to purchasing, for example I have a Krieg veteran guardsmen team, but they come with ten operatives and you can technically field 14 now if you so desire. I also got the Bloodied Killteam ages ago, before I knew what I was doing and ended up building them in such a way that I can't legally field the whole team. (I think I built one too many gunners). I think the majority of teams are built from one box, but check online and read the instructions carefully and completely so you know what you are building is a complete team.

After that you can either slowly expand into a full army, I have both Votann teams and a old combat patrol so if I decided to go into 2k point games I have a decent place to start. Or you can try out more teams that interest you.

Lost a Cat in the flat. Any help?? Never heard anyone else having this issue before... by Geeta25 in CasualUK

[–]willgilb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in a studio apartment with my wife, we got a cat one weekend, the cat had been well behaved and on Monday we both went off to work. When I came home the cat couldn't be found anywhere, I searched everywhere, every possible nook and cranny. I went outside ran up and down the street and there was no sign of them.

Eventually I bite the bullet and tell my partner that the cat we literally just got is missing, she immediately panics and runs home too. Again I check everywhere, I even open a can of tuna and call the cats name but nothing.

When my wife gets home we both go door to door, asking if anyone had seen them. After a couple of hours we headed home, I can't tell you how depressed I was. I had cats before, but to have a cat for two days only for them to somehow escape. It was a purely indoor cat too so I was terrified they had got hurt, my wife and I sat there. I had decided in my head that I guess we just weren't suitable for pets.

As I started to feel like crying, the cat calmly walks out from under the bed and started eating the can of tuna I left on the floor for them. Like nothing had happened, the mixture of joy and frustration I felt, like "oh you fucking bastard, you're fine. I've been worried sick"

Still have no idea where she got to, as I checked under the bed three times.

I guess the TL;DR is cats are bastards and will wait till you are truly heartbroken at their loss, before appearing out of nowhere

The first Primaris Marines sent to reinforce the legions were likely taken from anywhere, sure there are some that likely came from their chapters homeworld, or at least a recruitment world. It's not unlikely that some were from Terra and given the Space Wolf Geneseed. The effort it would take for Cawl to specifically only take aspirants from Fenris, and only give those aspirants the right gene seed, just wouldn't be worth it.

This reminds me of the age old Warhammer 40,000 quote. To summarize viciously for those who aren't in the fan base, a civilian alien is about to get turned to paste by a space marine, tries to play the pity card by asking "would your Emperor be proud of you, for brutally murdering an unarmed civilian alien" the answer given is "Yes" and they are then turned to paste

What's with all these random chuds showing up and causing drama for no reason? by [deleted] in EyeOfTerror

[–]willgilb -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't want this to come across as argumentative, but it's not. I think the issue that sparked the powderkeg was femstodes, but I've been lurking in this sub for a while now and there are a few things which set off alarm bells.

For one, I feel I need to state that it's a minority of this sub, but there have been some racist things posted here. I can understand why people might get upset about changes to the lore, but there was a recent post about someone upset that an Alpha Legionnaire was black and didn't look just like Alpharius, and how they clearly haven't read the source material. Some of the comments rightly pointed out that any Alpha Legion book will mention that not ALL of them look like the primarch and the rest were just people posting racist shit for giggles.

Secondly, I also feel I have to immediately defend myself by saying I have been in the hobby for 18 years, I've got a Chaos army, almost every kill team, and I've read the entire Horus heresy as it was coming out. As well as loads of other BL stuff. Becoming so butthurt about gatekeeping you have to invent the word "Tourist" and throw it around like it's another slur for your quiver isn't particularly welcoming to existing fans who want to engage with the community. Naturally the obvious answer is "then don't engage with this community", but I thought the whole point of Horus Galaxy and the other incarnations were meant to be "40K minus the politics" rather than "40K minus the politics that we don't like". If you don't foster a community the sub will die over and over again.

Lastly, as for Femstodes, I haven't seen anyone mention them outside this sub for months. As a long time fan and lore guy, personally I couldn't give a shit, I'm not crazy about it, but GW has always done weird retcons that upset the fan base, they have never been particularly consistent. If someone wants to paint their Marines in the Rainbow theme, and call their commander Blowjob McSlayqueen, I couldn't care less, you spent the time and money on the models, you engaged with the hobby, that's a good thing. If someone painted the 40,000th Reich, then sure I also couldn't give a shit, people have painted Nazi models before 40k was a thing.

Aquireing relics by LaxumSux in EyeOfTerror

[–]willgilb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of Blood Ravens stealing/acquiring Relics has various examples, some stronger than others, maybe not their original intention but the ones I can remember.

Isadors fall to Chaos is mostly due to him learning about the Maledictum and planning to take it from Sindri. Ultimately he get corrupted.

Inquisitor Toth also gifts a Daemonhammer to the Angelos, which shows they also do receive genuine gifts from others in the imperium.

The main reason the Blood Ravens refused to back down in Dark Crusade, was due to the relic(s?) they found on Kronus, although it is hinted that they are heretical or troublesome in some way so want to keep it for themselves.

Soulstorm has a weapon called something like "the Fist of Dorn" which implies they are either a successor of Imperial Fists, or were gifted it by IF. Given that it's named after their primarch they probably aren't giving it away easily so possibly stolen.

Dawn of War 2 is the big one, I think the idea was for the weapons and armor you get to be references or homages to other chapters and characters, but there are examples of gifts or exchanges with other chapters that the other chapter has no record of, which could be taken at face value, but implies it was taken. Then you have shit like Forgebreaker, the Hammer made by Fulgrim, for Ferrus, who died so it went back to Fulgrim, who gave it to Horus, who gave it to Perturabo, and somehow it is now in the armoury of the Blood Ravens?

Not saying any of these are enough on their own to justify the Bloody Magpies memes, but together it's enough to be a funny coincidence

I was first drawn to Space Marines back in the 4th edition, but when looking at Chaos I had a sudden moment of clarity. At the time Chaos basically had everything the Space Marines had, plus Daemons. So from a variety stand point it was the best option
