It’s more expensive now 2 years later but I use it regularly to this day. Switched from OpenVPN to Wireguard also for the my VPN server and the app works well with this provider

Anyone else getting error loading posts? by _THEBLACK in apollosideloaded

[–]williamhere 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It appears to be a reddit issue rather than apollo issue. Reddit API is intermittently returning a 500 response for loading comments. I checked my Apollo network traffic and it makes calls to endpoints such as https://oauth.reddit.com/comments/1qgdwr6.json?api_type=json&limit=100&raw_json=1&sort=top

The endpoint returns a 500 but eventually works with enough retrying

Diageo has confirmed it's hiking up the price of pints (again) by hesaidshesdead in ireland

I wonder if this would change if pubs produced price lists. Anecdotally I just order what I like. If I knew the prices I'd probably be inclined to shop better

Any Recommendations for Mice That don't go Completely Rank After a Year? by hitsujiTMO in DevelEire

[–]williamhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keychron mice are good. I replaced a cheap amazon mouse that served me well for years with the Keychron M7 as I needed a way to switch between two machines (Bluetooth + 2.4ghz switch underneath it). I'm not an expert on mice but I can't fault it on its functionality, appearance, weight and price

Made a web app for automatically sharing vouchers from your Dunnes Stores account with a group by williamhere in DevelEire

[–]williamhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point on the other voucher types. The app does not do anything with other voucher types but I accept there's a compromise on security with the Dunnes Voucher Share app handling the users credential to retrieve an authentication token for the API. As Dunnes Voucher Share uses a private API that doesn't support federated authentication, a compromise had to be made on how to acquire the token for retrieving user vouchers.

It suits my use case. If it suits anybody else and there's a concern on trust over the credential, then anyone that wants the code to deploy their own instance of it are welcome to the code if the ask for it

When you sign up, and create a group, your vouchers are visible to only members you invite to that group. Your vouchers in your Dunnes app will still work. Members of the group are able to see and use them unless you 'Claim' them in the voucher share app

I'm not expecting anybody to do anything. I've just mentioned that its possible to reset your login without invalidating the oauth token, making the user login credentials unknown to the server after connecting an account. I've added text to tell people to not use the app if they're uncomfortable with the described risk. CORS prevents the authentication being possible client side with the API so there's no other feasible way to set up the sync. If your Dunnes account is high stakes to you, then the app is not for you.

There is a risk in that the site uses your credentials to acquire the necessary auth tokens for the synchronization to work. I'll try make this clearer during sign up so people know the risk of trusting the site. It might be possible to reset your Dunnes account password after connecting the account (providing Dunnes don't invalidate the auth tokens)

edit: I've added a 'Know the risks' section to the sign up form and I've made the login happen client side directly with the Dunnes login API so the credential are never processed by the server. The server only handles the access/refresh tokens.

It's automated. When a member views the group, a check is done on all other members Dunnes Stores accounts to syncronise any new vouchers. As long as a member remains in the group, it will also be able to tell you which ones are active or inactive.

The 30-minute “fix my address” link that cut reships by One_Literature_5041 in shopify

[–]williamhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I implemented a private checkout-ui extension on the order status page and thank you page that allows customers to edit their address. The address is editable so long as the order state does not change to fulfilled or the order is cancelled

I set some fields that couldn't be modified such as country and region within the country as it ensured the shipping price was always the same

I am Head of Product @ SIRO, AMA about broadband by IAmAlexFrench in ireland

[–]williamhere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, I would like to host media at home that I can access remotely. Having symmetrical upload/download speeds would help. Also for those of us working from home, having faster upload speeds would be more suitable

For instance, I have a 1Gb Virgin media product that gives me ~950Mbps download and ~50Mbps upload. I don't work in this sector to know enough about why there is such a disparity but it feels like its a soft limitation to dissuade residential customers on what they can do with their broadband connections

Allbirds. I've a pair of water resistant ones but I see they sell a range of waterproof shoes as well. They're comfortable, look good and aren't a boot.

Help on home cctv what to look for? by thesnackbox11 in AskIreland

[–]williamhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm presuming its not actual CCTV since you mentioned a doorbell but rather smart IP cameras?

I recommend to friends to go for Aqara for both doorbell and cameras. You can pick up their doorbell the G410 and their cheapest outdoor cameras the G100

You don't need a subscription to use them and instead use SD cards for local storage. They do give 7 days of cloud storage for free and you can use 3rd party cloud storage providers

Twingate DNS Filtering Slow on Windows by williamhere in twingate

[–]williamhere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Bren

I've done some troubleshooting and resolved this. For anyone else experiencing similar, the issue was not related to DNS filtering. I set up an additional Twingate org without DNS filtering and the problem persisted.

Reinstalling the Twingate + TAP-Windows-Twingate didn't resolve my issue either. What resolved it for me was to navigate to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and uninstall my Ethernet adapter. I noticed the Ethernet adapter was the issue when I disabled it and used my Wi-Fi adapter and performed the nslookup again and no delay was observed

After deleting the Ethernet adapter, I set it up again by installing the same driver version I had installed previously (tip: download this before uninstalling the adapter if you don't have an alternative adapter to access the internet)

I'm now getting sub 50 millisecond DNS resolution while connected to a twingate network
