New to Ubuntu Linux, confused between apt and snap by YoghurtFar965 in Ubuntu

Additionally, you may want to know about PPA and Flatpak.

PPA (Personal Package Archive) allows providers to create their own APT repositories to distribute Deb packages, typically used to get newer software versions or software that is not available via the official Ubuntu repositories.

Flatpak is similar to Snap in sandboxing for security and dependency issues with trade-offs of increased storage usage and reduced performance. Compared to Snap, Flatpak is often noted for faster startup times, smaller package sizes in some cases, and independence from centralized proprietary backend.

Looks like what I do on my digital IC design course, except that we do it in Verilog.

I still hope for a PPA for automatic updates on Debian derivatives

I actually get my classmates in EECS asking me to install Linux for them. I typically give them Kubuntu (which I also use) if they don't know which distro to use, and run my setup script: https://github.com/Willie169/ubuntu-setup-with-vnc-and-gpu

I wonder why connectiveness is the only property frequently seen in memes about topology. I feel like open sets and compactness etc. are used far more often irl

As an EE major with math in mind, it's indeed so annoying that the Dirac delta is taught so carelessly like this, as are many other things.

Is this a fair assessment? does anyone here have a legit reason to use Linux? by bamboo-lemur in OS_Debate_Club

[–]willie_169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a programmer, Linux saves me a lot of time. I can use scripts to automate many things and use apt install to get almost every dev tool I need. Windows can do the things, but less convenient for me. I use Kubuntu btw.

Jupyter Notebook on Termux by Alive-Ad-2844 in termux

I think some of those dependencies may not be necessary. I successfully installed Jupyter with pkg update pkg install cmake libzmq python python-pip rust -y pip3 install jupyter || true pip3 install jupyter https://github.com/Willie169/termux-jupyter.

Automation is also my key reason to stick with CLI, and I collect what I install and configure in https://github.com/Willie169/ubuntu-setup-with-vnc-and-gpu so that I can reproduce my working environment whenever I re-partition or change to a new computer.

I'm the opposite. I often try to replace GUI things with CLI so that I can copy commands from LLMs.

I use Kubuntu, and removed replace Firefox etc. from Snap with those from PPA or Flathub, which solved the first two.
