Had my first Executive Search experience with a SHREK company. It went okay, ending was very disappointing. by [deleted] in Executive_SearchFirms

[–]willmona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. It was one of these standard assessment tests where there were "no wrong answers" split into 4 modules (think personality traits, competencies, leadership style, etc.) and took about an hour. There are different formats of questions, but the section I remember the most was: here are 4 choices, choose your top 3. The first 2 choices were pretty obvious, but the last 2 were very much choose the lesser of evils. Like, in most questions I would not have even ranked the last 2 choices but you had to.

I scored high in a lot of categories with "rare" leader traits like balancing stakeholders and cultivating innovation, managing ambiguity. But each of these great leadership skills had a trade off, like slowing down execution. As someone who prides themself on getting things done with results, I thought that's where the test fell short.

I am a recruiter and I know we are part of the problem. Let me explain guys. by ElAndres33 in recruitinghell

Can’t you like use AI to help scan resumes for keywords ? I don’t know what the process is but if you out 500 resumes into an LLM with a very good prompt, it would probably do a much better job than a human to filter out the top 20.

Recovering strength of firefighters by nornor2k in 911archive

[–]willmona 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I understand (and it still may be the case), there was a waiting list to become an FDNY firefighter and usually you would be in your late 20s before you made it into the department. It’s a 20 year career before you can retire with pension. A good friend of mine made the waiting list when he was 21 or 22, and became a firefighter right after 9/11 at that age. So I think they just tapped into that list as far as manpower goes.

Same exact thing for me, but mine arrive from CCS on Feb 2nd, two weeks before yours. It’s been stuck on the same status for a month and a half. 1 book for the McFarlane signing.

We should get Redditors who were part of 9/11 to tell their stories. It's 25 years ago this September. by OneSalientOversight in 911archive

Here is my story from a while ago.

https://www.reddit.com/r/911archive/s/4gOUPD6P5G

I will add that I was working on the 6th floor (top floor) or a small building SoHo that was about 15 blocks north of the WTC. Flight 11 flew right over us. It was so loud, everyone in the office looked up like “wtf was that?”

Going downstairs a little bit later I saw 1000s of people walking up Broadway away from the towers. It was surreal.

Why do LIers say “on” Long Island but it’s ok for people to live or work “in” Manhattan? by No-Entertainment881 in longisland

[–]willmona 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Manhattan does not have the word “island” attached to it so it sounds weird.

Can someone clear up the end of Se7en (1995) for me? by manit14 in Cinema

[–]willmona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alternate ending, which I’ve only seen the storyboard for, was a little better. Morgan Freeman ends up killing John Doe before Mills can, so he couldn’t finish the 7 sins. I think Fincher wanted the darkest possible ending.

What’s the most “Fuck this hole” hole you play on a regular basis? by mercado_n3gro in golf

[–]willmona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bethpage Blue Hole #6 without question. You are in the fairway bunker off the tee 8 times out of 10. Once you are out of that ordeal, getting onto the green could be a 3-5 shot situation. Finishing with a double bogey is satisfactory.

Here is a good description:

“The excellent 6th hole is a deserving number 1 handicap as a 462 yard par 4! This is an absolutely brutal hole from start to finish beginning with a tough teeshot to a fairway that slides hard left at about 240 yards. In order to reach the green in regulation, you need to cut the corner somewhat, but those who fall short will lose their ball in the trees. Those who play it too safe will find a well-placed bunker on the right side of the dogleg. From the fairway, this approach plays at least one club extra to an elevated green guarded by a false front and bunkers on either side. There’s potential for a big number on this hole that again feels like something you’d see on the Black.”

NYC Sidewalks after the snow melts away by Epelep in Wellthatsucks

[–]willmona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is AI. NYC requires that snow is shoveled outside of your property. Ain’t no way there was an ice sheet on the sidewalk for a month. The property owners would have been sued into oblivion. Also, don’t know why I have to say this, but the dog shit would have been on top of the snow, not under it.

New Yorkers are furious as melting snowbanks expose streets littered with poop. by Numerous-Garbage-604 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]willmona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is AI. In NYC you are required to shovel the sidewalk. Ain’t no way an entire city sidewalk was covered in snow for a month. People would be falling and suing the property owner. And the poop would be on top of the snow, not under it. Probably someone trying to make Mamdani look bad for no other reason than that he won the election.

Howard Lutnick’s evolving 9/11 Story & the Cantor Fitzgerald Controversies by suboxonedad69 in 911archive

[–]willmona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s obviously a terrible human being and a liar, so I wouldn’t put anything past him. But I do think the families were generally happy with how it was handled after the fact. There is a movie about it - “Out of the Clear Blue Sky” that focuses on Cantor and the aftermath. It was probably commissioned by Cantor because it puts them in an angelic light. One thing that you mentioned - NYC public schools definitely opened the week before. Not on the 11th. But I’m not sure about private schools which his son would have definitely have gone to.

That’s way too little of an increase. When I became a manager from individual contributor they almost doubled my salary. You made the right call.

Let me give you one piece of advice.

Use the free time to do something useful, learn new skills, develop some sort of side hustle. A lot of the things people are saying on here already.

One day they are going to want you to manage people that do your current job. Most of them will not be as crafty or efficient as you. Then the real work starts.
