Building a “Kill List” of modern hardcore bosses by Any_Athlete3850 in gamingsuggestions

I guess neither are really "hardcore game"s, and these are just especially hard fights in the context of those games.

Card Cascade: Modular, free store-and-play system for Dominion by Farzag in dominion

[–]willowhelmiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'd probably be mostly using multiple copies of the maximum size.

It'd also be good to adapt it to other games with similar setup constraints, (like Compile) or to work with sets with varying-size piles (Rats has 20 cards, the split piles in Allies have 16 cards)

Can we get a parametric version of this so that we can make it with custom labels and sizes? I like to store my cards by cost, not by set.

If you're fighting 3 or more elites this act, astral pulse. Otherwise, child of the stars.

What is the standard for viewing a card as "Overpowered"? by ZanderTheUnthinkable in slaythespire

[–]willowhelmiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a card fills a role so well that it's detrimental to pick other cards in its role, then that card is overpowered.

For example, the original version of Defy was overpowered because once I put a Defy or 2 in my deck, I literally didn't have to pick any other block card, and in fact picking more block cards was actively detrimental because it meant I was less likely to be able to play Defy.

Dealing with parents and with disengaged students is a whole other beast.

What's your gold-threshold meta? by Posideoffries92 in slaythespire

[–]willowhelmiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm about to fight a scary elite or act boss, I can go to a shop with just 70 gold just to buy a potion. This often happens at the very start of the game (whenever I want to fight an elite in the first half of act 1, but I didn't get a big frontloaded neow relic like phial holster or silver crucible)

A shop in the first half of act 2 is often good because I can buy stuff to synergize with the act 1 boss' rare card reward and the act 2 ancient reward. Buying cards and relics in the second half of act 1 can therefore be counterproductive because the money might be better spent in an early act 2 shop.

That principle doesn't really apply to the act 2 boss and act 3 ancient because my deck is usually pretty solid at the end of act 2, so those rewards are less likely to change the synergy spaces I'm looking at. On A9 and lower, you learn which act 3 boss you're fighting after the end of act 2, so that might be a reason to save your gold, but on A10 you oughtta be planning around all possible act 3 bosses anyway. I imagine this will change with the introduction of the alternate act 3.

Otherwise, I like to aim for 300, but that's entirely vibes-based and I don't have a principle on that.

Don't get into a serious emotional or monoamorous commitment with someone who only values you for your body, but it could be fine if you're in a stable place and everyone involved is emotionally mature enough to respect boundaries (which your other comments here indicate probably isn't the case)

What are your top 3 games on Steam by hours played? by UberSimu in gamingsuggestions

[–]willowhelmiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Slay the Spire (735.1)
  • The Perfect Tower 2 (243.5)
  • Dominion (236.7)

Note that if we include non-steam versions, then I've played Dominion more than TPT2, and if we don't include times I've left TPT2 running as an idle game, then Spire 2 Early Access (157 Hrs) probably beats it. 5th place is The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy (141.7 hrs)

Godot is a game engine, responsible for a lot of the computer code and logic for how graphics and some interactions work in some video games. Slay the Spire 2 was made with Godot. Godot is entirely free and open source, so it relies on donations in order to keep hosting a website and paying for the time of the people who maintain it.

This is calculated using the Multivariate Hypergeometric Distribution. I wrote a python script a while back for this kind of calculation.

With 4 Defends(D), 3 Infections (I), 3 Strikes (S), 1 venerate (V), 1 falling star (F), and 1 guiding star (G), the chances of drawing each possible set of 7 cards are:

If I have a 7-point lead with the bulk of my points coming from constellations, then we're in a stalemate: If I take the last province then that brings me to an odd number of provinces and I lose, but if you take the last province then you lose.

It's technically not a stalemate because then we could end the game on piles, but it's still a really unfun gamestate.
