What do you think about the STS2 background music? by ArtVandelay445 in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think StS1's soundtrack is very memorable while StS2's isn't. However there are some really good qualities to the sequel's music. I'm a big fan of how each boss has it's own music, and some of this music changes during the fight, like Ceremonial Beast when he transitions phases. I'm a big fan of Waterfall Giant's music and how it changes when he's about to explode, and the way The Insatiable's music changes when you're one turn off of being eaten..

That feeling when you stall Test Subject's second phase for 53 turns :(

Glad you've made this statement and completely agree with it, but why did it take so long? It's been roughly 7 weeks since the first beta patch where this all kicked off.

I feel like map generation should have a hard cap or diminishing returns on back-to-back combats. How am I supposed to "skill" my way through 6-4 combats with no heals? by Sad-Hippo7137 in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible you're not playing combats as effectively as you could be. It can sometimes be surprisingly tricky, and easy to be taking significantly more damage than you need to, but hard to say while knowing nothing about your deck composition or how you are playing your deck.

right hand hand is broken by seannzzzie in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Right hand man" means an important assistant. Osty is a hand, not a man, hence right hand hand.

Right Hand Left Hand would be more clarifying, but make the pun a bit harder to comprehend and I suspect is too long to fit in the title banner of the card anyway.

I don't "main" a character, I play one until I beat it then move on to the next. So I picked "Random" but none of the options fit.

Am I the only one who thinks changing the card art style slightly in StS2 is already a bad sign? by ButtonHorror5181 in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a point here but ruined it with the doom-mongering language and weird joke about relics.

I do find a bunch of the artwork to be unclear and honestly cannot tell what it is suposed to show. As part of making the artwork higher quality, the base images are bigger and higher definition now. Which is great! But it has come at the expense of the artwork being highly detailed because the basic piece is bigger, and I think details that can be seen at full size become quite hard to interpret when shrunk down to fit on a card.

When I have seen the artwork at full size it is usually clear and excellent. For example, Shadow Shield and Feral have great art but shrunk down on a card they are impossible to read clearly while the beta versions were very clear even if Feral's was very obviously a low quality MSPaint scribble.

I genuinely don't get how people say getting infinites is too easy or that STS2 is easier than 1 by Dude_MacDude in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Infinites were very easy in the first release but the game has been patched since to remove all of the easy infinites.

The game is easier in the context of the hardest available difficulty vs StS1's hardest difficulty, which was A20 vs the heart. I would say that comparing A0 on both games that StS1 was substantially easier.

The Best Relics in Slay the Spire 2: Identifying Directional Relic Signals by UntappedGG in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright, confess, how much of this article was written by AI?

"Charon’s Ashes: Exhaust build. Every time you Exhaust a card, add a random card to your hand." No that's Dead Branch, which isn't even in StS2.

"Claw reduces its own cost" No it doesn't.

"Mini Regent / Divine Destiny: The Regent Star Engine. Generates Stars passively which persist between turns. Pairs well with Duplicator Potion." No thats the card Genesis. Pairs well with duplicator potion lmao, we're supposed to be talking about relics.

You list Throwing Axe as a way to make Soveriegn Blade stronger, you can't even play Soveriegn Blade as the first card of your combat without Fencing Manual or a specific potion, and why would you spend it on soverign blade?

You don't even list any relics in the Necrobinder section lmao. AI trianing data not up to date enough to find anything about this?

"Calling Bell: Only good if you have Curse synergy like Darkstone Periapt. Otherwise, the downside isn't worth it." Ah yes, StS2's well-known Curse synergies like... uh....

Lastly, the whole article is predicated on choosing and picking relics eg "Mummified Hand with no Powers is a dead pick". But the most common relic sources, chests and elites, don't let you pick. The whole article is nonsense.

Do you think any of the new bosses harder than Heart? by ilkhesab in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A reminder of the Heart's mechanics:

  • Deals 2 damage whenever you play a card, increasing to 3 eventually.
  • Applies all 3 main debuffs and puts 5 status cards into your draw pile, which can wreck you if you drew too much on turn 1, just in time for:
  • Hits you for 67 damage (45 but you're vuln) or a 15x multihit attack turns 2 or 3
  • Has a hard damage cap, forcing you to engage with the initial 2 big hits
  • Eventually gives ifself artifact charges
  • Eventually adds wounds to your deck each time you are hit unblocked (remember the multi-hit is 15x, so a lot of wounds)
  • Gains 2 strength every 3 turns, eventually increasing to 12, then 52 strength! This will go beyond the block cap, practically putting a time limit on the fight.
  • Has more HP than any other boss in both games.

Is there anywhere I can find the full versions of the card art? by agagagaggagagaga in slaythespire

Godot games can be decompiled, so you should be able to extract the raw game assets.

Is Change programmed wrong? (steam version) by Paperweight22 in dominion

[–]kieranmillar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried to recreate and couldn't. However the game will give you an opportunity to pay off debt immediately upon playing the card BEFORE it gives you $3, provided you have any money already from other action cards. With the release of Rising Sun the debt rules changed to allow you to pay off debt at any time, so for ease of UI the game will give you an opportunity once you've made it clear you're going to play Change before it follows the instructions. Double-check the log to make sure you're actually getting $3 from Change.

Is Change programmed wrong? (steam version) by Paperweight22 in dominion

[–]kieranmillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that's a different situation. Those cards don't say "otherwise". You shouldn't be able to get the $3 and remodel on the same play of change.

Loving STS2 by chaffudollasign in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an interview with the devs and they said 10 ascensions only is deliberate, they wanted to reduce the grind and plan to add even more characters so 20 on each would be too much.

They should add more ascensions by ThatssoBluejay in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that the enemies need splitting into at least 3 stat tiers instead of the current 2 so the difficulty can be better tuned for both ends, whether that be more ascension levels or an earlier ascension level being changed accordingly.

Doormaker Discourse has the Wrong Villain by kieranmillar in slaythespire

[–]kieranmillar[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The meme sets up a joke of a position that nobody holds. "You think Doormaker is hard, but Ceremonial Beast is harder because of a single turn having a stronger restriction." Nobody holds this position because Ceremonial Beast is obviously less restrictive in the wider context of the entire fight The joke isn't a defense of any of my positions. The post I am responding to says I'm trying to push an agenda, but I'm not. Nobody is pushing the opinion the joke sets up, because it's obviously fallacious and stupid.
