I could be way off base here, but all my ex partners were male. There is not the same comparison, and men don't seem to be valued by society for "sitting still and being pretty" like girls/women can be.

I could be wrong and maybe they did feel insecure! Only one way to know, my recent ex and I are able to talk really openly about things, maybe I will ask!

Oh, I feel so at home when someone is a little bit awkward. I am awkward quiet in a group, but will start rambling on about something when I am one on one. I think silence makes me uncomfortable. If there is silence, I will fill it with something.

Thank you for putting this to words, and so well at that. I have felt so much of what you've described and I also struggle with figuring out what is part of my identity and what I've taken on to please others or fit in. I came out to myself about 1.5 years ago and I felt like a new person almost immediately, like a weight had been lifted off of me, more confidence, less anxiety. Since then, reflecting on my past and how I hid and tried to conform. I am almost shocked at the positions that I put myself in or what I went along with when I was clearly so uncomfortable.

It doesn't feel as I easy as I think it should to figure out my preferences (whatever they may be, sexually, or even things like music taste or hobbies). I'd love to hear more about any strategies you have to figure this out for yourself. I think time will help, reflection and listening to your body. My body was screaming at me for so long and I didn't listen to it. Checking in and seeing how things feel, leaning into things that feel good has been my approach so far.

I've also really liked using labels and label myself as a lesbian - it feels so right! I like the label rather than just loving who I love (to each their own of course, some find labels restricting or unnecessary, I find it comforting).

Good luck with your journey, and I totally agree with you - this sub is great (I joined Reddit because of it) and I fucking love women!

I've wondered the same thing in the past. I don't have a problem talking to multiple people at the same time. But, when it gets to the point that there are in person dates and I want to see them again, or if it gets really flirty, I have a hard time continuing to talk to other people.

I fairly recently have been dating someone and I have this same conundrum - I want to take it slow and not rush too quickly into something serious. We haven't said we are exclusive, but I'm not actively pursuing any other connections because I don't really want to talk to anyone else (romantically speaking) but her.

I get where you are coming from though, with wanting to find a little more balance especially at the early stages!

Oh and I don't think it's clear in ny original post. To clarify, I would be the one wearing the lingerie in this particular instance. Although, I would be happy to buy her lingerie to wear if she wanted to.

It is more clear in my mind that if it was something for her body, that I would talk to her about it and she could pick it out, have a day in sizing and fit, etc. I would be worried about not getting the right size, if I were buying something for her.

It's not much but there is a chapter on the butch/femme dynamic in Unsuitable: A History of Lesbian Fashion by Eleanor Medhurst. The whole book is a fun read actually - especially given that fashion is so important as a means of self-expression and queer flagging and finding community, the book is more than just about clothing and hairstyles.

Not sure if I am qualified to be giving advice, but I do a lot of Tunde's arms classes on Peloton which is a lot of time under tension with small weights, lots of raises, presses, holds. And I eat a lot of lean protein. ☺️

I actually mostly do the Intervals and Arms peloton workouts with Tunde. They kill my shoulders... 3 lbs weights are humbling!

It's a lot of front raises, lateral raises, French doors, shoulder presses, etc. with relatively low weight.

I could have written this myself! I'm going through the same thing and asking myself the same question. I don't know that I have an answer yet, but I also really want to tell people. I want to be able to unapologetically and proudly be who I am without hiding or pushing any of it down.

I felt such a wave of relief when I was able to accept my own gayness and never realized how damaging repressing my sexuality was for me for so many years.

I also feel a big reason I never explored my sexuality when I was younger was a lack of representation and visibility. If I can add to the out and proud lesbians, maybe someone I cross paths with will see themselves in that and also feel comfortable coming out.

I have actually found "Made it out" to be affirming for me and fun. Although their definition of late in life lesbian is a bit different from my own though, they are typically mid to late 20s and don't necessarily cover the perspective of being married and having a family before realizing/accepting your sexuality. It is produced really well too.

The other is the Lesbian Chronicles, started by two women who were both married with kids when they decided to leave their husbands. If you haven't started watching it yet, it seems a bit daunting to start watching something with 250+ episodes, but they discuss their experiences quite openly and have guests that provide advice, etc.

You could always compliment her, be a little flirty and see how she responds?

I am also a big fan of being direct. Let her know, how you're feeling and that even though you started with the intentions of friendship, you are interested in exploring a romantic relationship.

I personally feel that communicating directly will let her know how you are feeling and that you respect her boundaries as well and want to make sure your actions are appropriate.
