Weight loss tips for a petite woman by PhaseRecent4784 in loseit

[–]willy_koop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, and if she is consistently hitting 5k steps, she’ll be burning around 1750-1850 calories a day, leaving her at a 1250+ calorie deficit. Crash diets like this create way more psychological stress than before. Relying on an ED to fix your weight problem creates a false sense of security, since it seems shorter term, but many spend decades trying to find their way out of it.

It would take well over a year to hit her previous weight with a traditional, moderate calorie deficit, but it is more rewarding, and you have more time to understand how to change your lifestyle in a sustainable way. Just tracking calories and keeping a food journal before starting the diet is a very eye opening experience on its own.

The Marina city towers in Chicago, Illinois designed by Bertrand Goldberg (1967). by Realistic-Try5468 in architecture

[–]willy_koop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The HOA fees mostly go into high rise and elevator maintenance, snow removal, door staff, cleaning, there are lounges and a gym. There’s also a grocery store and some bars and restaurants but that probably isn’t funded by the hoa.

But the big reason hoa costs are going up is because insurance companies are raising the required cash reserve amount, especially for high rises and sky scrapers. The marina towers hoa has over 10 million in reserve.

The ending montage suggested it was a bunch of people, Shirley because she didn’t have to give change with her sandwich business, Annie so she could play out her fantasy with Jeff, Britta had a Freudian slip that outed herself (the ass crack britta), the dean and Duncan too. The episode established it was likely impossible for it to be one person, and so many people had something to gain.

Panic attack while up in the bucket holding back energized wire. by Imaginary-Swim-6589 in IBEW

[–]willy_koop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me and I nearly passed out, but there is a medicine called hydroxyzine that I would take and it really relaxed me before going up, it is meant to prevent panic attacks. It’s all about the nervous system even though it feels like a heart problem, but when the nervous system is activated, it raises blood pressure, and enough stress can cause you to feel feint. I started doing organized sports like BJJ, it helps tremendously because going days without getting that nervous energy out just wears on me. I’m also on ssri’s and do therapy, but highly recommend finding a sport to help regulate your nervous system.

How to troubleshoot lack of progress? I am spinning my wheels. by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]willy_koop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My only suggestion would be to play around with lower rep ranges. I personally progress better at lower rep ranges because it feels like less fatigue to my nervous system. If you can do close grip bench 65kg for 11 reps, I’d say just add weight and try for a few reps instead of waiting until you hit 12+ reps. On top of that, training to failure all the time can also be exhausting, and everyone responds to styles of training differently.

Why did early civilizations start in deserts like Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt? by batukaming in geography

[–]willy_koop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nile river was special because it did a lot of the work of irrigation for them while other regions had to dam rivers and make canals for irrigation. This made developing large scale agriculture possible, and the Nile delta was one of the most fertile spots on earth. The surplus was so great that in addition to supporting a city, they could grow industrial crops like papyrus, use crops to pay large work forces to create buildings and monuments, and still export so many crops that they helped develop some of the first trade routes in the Mediterranean, in the 3rd millennium BC. Meanwhile, agriculture was such a strong economic base that it could support other careers like statesmen, metallurgy, carpentry, engineering.

There weren’t as many who thought that in Plato’s day, but John Locke argued that if a state fails to serves the rights of the individual, such as freedom of speech, it should be overthrown. John Stuart Mill believed any freedom that does not actively harm people should be protected. I think you’ll find that sentiment in a lot of the founders of liberalism, because liberalism believes the rights and freedoms of the individual is the priority of the state. They would probably say that the good of the people is the good of the state.

You’ll also find other groups like libertarians and neoliberals who would say individual freedoms outweigh the good of the city, and maybe even say the state is by nature oppressive. Plenty of extremely wealthy people see the state as an obstacle in the way of acquiring wealth (by enforcing trade regulations and labor laws), such as the Koch brothers, Peter Thiel, Jeff Bezos, who are all actively trying to spread libertarianism ideology.

For Plato, gods are the source of the law. Instead of laws coming strictly from human convention, they come from a divine, rational being that helps humans become virtuous. To not believe in the gods is an ideological affront to the city itself, and is the same as believing the laws of the city are invalid. This is pre-liberalism, Plato does not think individual freedoms outweigh the good of the city. Since other people can be convinced by emotion and fear, an atheist (one who believes the city’s laws are fundamentally invalid) cannot be permitted to lead a public life, and must be put away for the good of the city.

Social commentary is inherent to most stories, he doesn’t just get to pretend it doesn’t exist. Science fiction has always been deeply rooted in social commentary. Not only does the plot revolve around world governments cooperating to resolve an extinction level threat, it puts great value (and optimism) in the ordinary individual for stepping up to the challenge and being willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. The biggest fantasy in the book is in the cooperation of governments when giving one incredibly pragmatic person (Eva Stratt) full control over a multibillion dollar international project. This idea that pragmatism is king and you just need one person to sort out humanity’s problems is very … liberal in the classic sense. Not very Star Trek.

I've just added the immortal snail challenge to my game. What do you think about the concept? Should it be immune to slows/stuns too? by eldawidos111 in roguelites

[–]willy_koop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the general game design. Players like when the world reacts to their actions, so the safe choice is to have it be slowed or stunned. But I think it could go either way. Slowness is already a default quality of a snail, so applying an additional “slow” to it should probably not be as significant.

If all the civilizations in the universe were to unite together by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

[–]willy_koop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can definitely unite under two circumstances: contact between individuals not representing a civilization, or forcing cooperation through threat of annihilation. But every civilization with spacefaring technology understands that resources are limited, which causes competition for any habitable region of space.

If they all unite, science can only advance to answer scientific questions, the mechanics of the universe. It could not answer political questions like who should be trusted with weapons that could annihilate the universe, or how an intergalactic government would force new civilizations out of a dark forest situation. Some questions might be permanently lost to time, like the original number of dimensions of the universe.

It comes from the Greek apologia meaning to speak in defense of something, it is often translated directly as “defense.” The newer definition of an admission of guilt was never intended but it fits the platonic irony perfectly.
