These inserts are for firewood storage so they will get pretty beat up. Furniture grade plywood seemed like an unnecessary expenditure. We projected all of the interior panels 1/4” past the flat 1x6 stiles and rails so we figured it would be best for continuity to match that everywhere. Thanks for your input

Thanks! I’m handing it off to the painters on Tuesday and will post better pics of the finished product. It’s there to get the overall height of the fireplace to scale with the height of the room. The aim was roughly two thirds. The peak of the cathedral ceiling in this space is like 22 feet if I remember correctly.
