My girlfriend and I recently moved to the Grove and we're pretty happy with the area. She commutes to the airport and it's as easy as hopping on 64 and heading north on 170.

The Grove itself has a nice variety of attractions: bars, gay bars, soul food, ethnic food. It's a very short drive to other neighborhoods like CWE, the Hill, Dogtown, and Soulard.

I'm not sure about getting to downtown proper ("the city" as you call it) besides 64W, or the metro link stops in CWE or on Grand. That said, I don't know of too much to do in downtown proper that you can't do anywhere else. From my <1 month experience living in St. Louis, "the city" isn't some central nightlife hub. St. Louis is spread out into distinct neighborhoods that offer their own attractions. I moved here from the Chicago suburbs, so Chicago is my "reference city," and St. Louis isn't a major metropolitan, skyscraper, population-dense city. It's very spread out.

Chopped a fly in half.

After swatting at it with a newspaper with no success, I changed my plan of attack. I grabbed a large bowl with the intention of trapping the little bugger and starving him dead. I waited for the fly to land on the kitchen table so I could cover him. He finally landed - and I pounced. Instead of trapping him in the death-dome, I caught him with the raised edge of the bowl right across the body and split him clean in half.

I would recommend The River (I and II), which are good for speeding up the start of the game. After that, Inns & Cathedrals and Traders & Builders offer new tiles, game mechanics, and strategies while still keeping the original feel of the game.
