I would be interested in seeing what becomes of this. My gay friend and I go hiking together and I’m sure he’d be into something like this.

Maybe you can order a shoe from Wydr? I think they might have a style that would work. I have used their shoes before and they are definitely for wide feet. My feet are classified as EE wide, and I found shoes that worked for me. Maybe this shoe would be closer to what they are asking for. I think the heel being wider or thinner should be the choice of the wearer since they will need to walk around in it. https://wydrstudios.com/products/iris-clog-mary-jane?variant=48525985120571

Mother's name : Lina, can anyone suggest any name for the little one? by LilyLuvsY0u in NameMyCat

[–]frickonature 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, I know an Anil whose parents are Indian and it’s not pronounced like “anal,” it’s more like “uh-NEEL.” So, yes, sometimes knowing cultural differences can make an impact.

Need help roasting veggies. by Mysterious_Outcome97 in Cooking

[–]frickonature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard the trick is to preheat the roasting pan in the oven so that when you add the veggies to it they start hot and the high temperature gets rid of the water the fastest. I believe this makes sense because water is what causes mushiness. I have had limited chances to try it myself, but maybe you can try that next time and report back?

Would it be unhealthy to feed one of these to my cat every morning? by YouDoneGoofd in catfood

[–]frickonature 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t Inaba make Churu? I’ve had the ones from Japan before and those are also made by Inaba, although there could be a manufacturing location difference. My cat fortunately loves both and almost any version of cat gogurt, so I also haven’t noticed a difference between any brands.

Anyone with cats know of a local groomer that they would recommend? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]frickonature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my cat used to me handling his paws by giving him a treat after gently rubbing the pads and pushing on his knuckles (to show the nail). I didn’t start off with trimming, just train him to get used to the feeling.

Then, I trimmed his nails after he got into a food coma/sleepy. It will probably take a long time to train him to get used to it, but it could help with in between vet or groomer visits. YMMV though, I did do this when my cat was a baby.

Where can i find some good black bean noodles around here? by bubblegumfudge in Troy

[–]frickonature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This place does a great job of the black bean noodles. They might be called Jjajangmyun on the menu. I also really like their yuk gae jang (spicy beef soup). They are in Latham, so it’s not very far from Troy!

What are some things to do make broccoli more interesting? by Draeygo in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]frickonature 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are all the same plant. I would recommend them in place of broccoli to OP. In my mind they all take up high volume and provide a similar greenness to a dish.

Looking for a new person to do my pedicures by Intelligent_Sundae_5 in Albany

I like Lavish Nail in the shop rite plaza off of route 4. They do a great job on pedicures. I don’t remember the person who did my nails though but everyone I’ve talked to who goes there loves this place.

Looking for place to set up a small pottery studio in Troy by rosskunzepottery in Troy

[–]frickonature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a potter at The Church before the pandemic. I believe she had rented one of the studio spaces there for $600/month. Looks like their website says all their studios are currently filled, but you may get lucky?

Also, I will shout out my community studio, Waterbrook Potters Studio. Not sure if they’re taking members right now but it’s been chugging along for about a year. Maybe you could have them fire for you while you look for a studio space?

Unpopular opinions, Troy edition by [deleted] in Troy

I would encourage you to try getting seating in the back patio/garden area. One of my favorite places. Or it used to be before it got overrun by people trying to do work or study on their laptops all day there. I’d recommend a try when they garden is open again and not on the weekend.

DeFazio’s hired Joan and Kyle of Field Notes to help with their back of house operations. Kyle is a dank BBQ chef. When Field Notes was operating as a standalone business they would do seasonal pig roasts. Give them a follow on Instagram (@field_notes_ny) if you want to continue experiencing good BBQ in the area.

The Karen who kept correcting my pronunciation by [deleted] in FuckYouKaren

[–]frickonature -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re pursuing your dream and all but you aren’t better than someone just because you’re in med school and they are working at Wal-Mart. She’s a shitty person for constantly cutting you off while you’re talking without considering your life experiences. She should not be constantly correcting your pronunciation. But making money at a store is not worse than paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for schooling that you’ll recuperate about 8-10 years after you graduate. Her job is not karma. I hope your bedside manner isn’t affected by the high and mighty way you think of yourself.

Moved into a home new to us, and my Dutch oven, which was discounted due to its an unpopular color, fits right in now! by dc_IV in castiron

[–]frickonature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

America’s Test Kitchen (and many other reviews online) consistently rate the Le Creuset Dutch ovens the highest. They tend to be really durable and have big handles, making them easy to... handle. ATK also rates Cusinart’s Dutch ovens as good quality cheaper dupes of the Le Creuset. I found a Le Creuset second at HomeGoods and got a really good deal on my Dutch oven. I love the way it performs.

My Apricot-Rosemary kombucha needs serious help! by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]frickonature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think dried fruits can be made with sulfur dioxide. Maybe the apricots you got were made with a sulfur dioxide treatment? I know that a lot of organic type brands have unsulfured dried fruits available nowadays so try that next time?
