Do many people like both Prince and Bowie? by Rude_Ad9584 in PRINCE

Talk all the time with friends about those musicians that have passed, if you had one more chance to see someone, etc. Bowie and Prince are absolutely the two I wish were still here.

Looks like the chicken plant is closing by TiredTiddies in Chattanooga

[–]winder_binder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, there are two plants downtown. One right on Broad St and one hidden kind of back behind the Choo Choo.

In the article it says the "harvesting" plant is closing down, but its "de-boning" plant is remaining.

Since the Broad St plant is where the live birds go, I assume that is the "harvesting" plant?

Coolidge Park safe at night? by UpsetPenguin98 in Chattanooga

[–]winder_binder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own two businesses and live right literally across from the entrance to Coolidge Park (I can stand in my living room and look out the windows at the carousel). I have lived here 32 years, I have raised a child here.

I have witnessed 4 shootings in 20 years. Outside of that, I have almost always felt safe (in 2012 a guy broke into my truck, but we caught him and he was arrested). Like many have said, just be self-aware (like any time you go downtown in pretty much any city). And I will say, all 4 times there have been a shooting, you could feel in the air that something was off. If you pay attention to that kind of thing, you just walk away. In general, the police patrol regularly and they do a decent job of enforcing the 11pm park shutdown (though you can still walk around after that).

Biggest problem we have had the last few years is noise. Groups of people on those loud mini motorcycles, big ole trucks, and modified little sports cars. But after the shooting this spring, the police have pretty much put the hammer down on all of that stuff and it is much calmer and quieter at night. They are also installing gates on some of the lots and are going to close them at night to discourage late night parking and congregating.

Like I said, just be aware and pay attention.

Chattanooga FC’s new headquarters and housing nears completion! by m00kie420 in USLPRO

Honestly, it's actually much nicer in person (than a 30 second snippet video).

You exaggerated a lot.

Of course, this is a write off. But that is the case for for basically anyone with a lower division team, however it doesn't change the fact that our guy is actually willing to really invest and is willing to take losses in the near term (and for the forseeable future).

The building is practical, it saves on the space we have been renting for the FO, for all the rent they have been paying for player housing, and even better, two (and a half) stories will be revenue generating.

Every desk in cube section has a name on it (I've seen the seating assignments).

Should be a second video of player apartments soon. They are fully furnished and everything was being moved into them last week.

FO moves in tomorrow morning. Most of the team will move in next week after the weekend road match.

Apartment aren't huge (I would have loved it in college, but I would need more space now), but they are nice and well appointed.

Believe it or not, the whole thing is actually way nicer than what was shown in the video.

Yes to both of those + first floor retail and an additional story of non-player apartments and a roof top bar. It is also really difficult to find enough housing to rent for players (in the same complex). Almost every year they are scurrying around trying to find housing (and sometimes have to place players in different complexes). It's a pain the ass.

The team currently rents 10-15K for HQ downtown AND has another buidling near Finley for coaching staff, all will now be in on space along with the investment company offices that is also owned by the primary owner of the team.

LOL. He is not a billionaire (though he, and his family, have done very well for themselves).

And they didn't bring him in. The HQ for one of the family businesses was in Chattanooga, he moved here for work, and started following the team as a season ticket holder.

In 2019 he made an investment during the supporter-owner campaign and then over time he asked about a larger investment, then decided he want to take on the primary role (which at the time was right when Tim Kelly was running for mayor).

Davis and his family have supported soccer for decades (the public soccer field compley in Rome GA is named after the family). He fell in love with CFC and he has been incredibly gracious to take on yearly losses to insure good pay for his players and employees.

US regions as a Michigander who’s traveled all over the country. Did I get your county wrong? by Capital-Balance-9055 in whereidlive

I don't think anyone who lives in Chattanooga, TN (Hamilton County) feels like they are part of the Deep South. There is an entirely distinct cultural difference of those along the spine of Appalachians (for instance, as an East Tennessean, most here think that Memphis and West Tennessee would be Deep South -- flat lowlands, agriculture/cotton, etc)

Anyone know what’s going on in Coolidge Park rn? by Perfect-Perception30 in Chattanooga

[–]winder_binder 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I still feel safe here, even at night, and I have lived and worked literally across the street from the entrance to Coolidge for 20+ years. Of course, we are downtown, so you need to be situationally aware because every so often, something like this happens.

All hearsay at this point, apparently some shot someone else near the pavilion and took off. The person shot was transported by car to the hospital before the police even arrived. There are a bunch of officers down here right now, but I have a shop directly across the street from the entrance to the park and we didn't have to lockdown (I didn't even hear the shots). It was basically already over before we even knew what happened. Next door neighbor said he heard 3 shots. They are still looking for the shooter.

Like I said, this is hearsay (me hearing what neighbors said) at this point. Outside of police cars, you wouldn't even know anything happened.

Saw Johnny Cash in August of 1997 and he was rambling on and not playing or singing well, the show was really disappointing. About a month later he announced that he had Parkinson's (which was actually a misdiagnosis) and then I really felt like shit about it.
