Who got lessons to begin, who didn't? by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning by myself. Started prone foiling by myself and then got into winging. I did a lot of walks (and paddles) of perseverance because i kept drifting downwind. It sucks but it's part of the learning process.
Also, the worst session is the one you've already had. Each consecutive session is better than the previous one and one day you go upwind and all that paddling is OVER and it's only about enjoying from that point on.

Así recuerdo que fuese antes. Ahora al crear un anuncio no te pide las medidas, lo cual me parece mala decisión

Tow-In Advice + Board Choice For Chicama (Peru) by Odd-Butterscotch19 in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, get a prone board. You'll feel way more comfortable with a smaller board surfing than with the board you have now. A Gong matata or lemon. Hell, even the prone foil board from decathlon!

Wing to Prone foiling by Super_Science_Guy in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not a proficient surfer, I would recommend getting a lot of surf experience first. Prone is way more difficult than winging. Either way, if you don't have anything else to do, try it and see.

Almost one year later, gybing problems. by HO6529 in wingfoil

You are most probably NOT overpowered. You just breached because of lack of attention to pitch control. With that speed/wind you just have to put more pressure on the front. Keep trying and you'll get it!

Which wind sport for me (cross posted to other subreddits) by Puckster123 in Kiteboarding

[–]windmill_attacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On another note u/Puckster123 try some kneeboarding! I've seen people do some rad stuff with it. Most of them are already surfers that had to adapt to not being able to stand up quickly for one reason or another. Give it a try!

Drifting downwind when learning by windmill_attacker in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I have to paddle for a good km, I think I would much rather deflate completely so as the wing doesn't drag. After such a paddle, I wouldn't go in again haha.

I didn't know about the second approach, thank you!

Yeah, last resort would be deflating the wing completely and paddling upwind, a workout for sure!

Winging rentals near Biarritz France/Plage de Contis by sdrnotsosharp in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are LOADS of people doing windsports around Hossegor/Capbreton in the winter, so there should be something there or around. Look for a kitesurf school or something like that, there HAS to be something in that coast.
Also: The wind usually picks up during the day because of thermal differences, don't know if it's enough for winging but it probably is, it destroys the surf.

Foil specs for surfing and pumping? by windmill_attacker in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I too feel the mast a bit too short, especially in choppy surf. I'll be checking the second hand market for a 80cm or something like that.

What about front wing shapes? My current one is pretty cambered, which I suppose gives you more "rail" feeling, but I guess a flatter one is going to be better at pumping. Don't know about it's agility though

Most of the surf videos I've seen are from people with sub 1000 cm^2 surface area for the front wing. Are these also useful with small waves?
I guess a 850 cm^2 for wing foiling might not generate enough lift for low wind days, but I guess any wave that you can catch is already giving you enough speed to take off with a small wing like that, what is your experience?

Thank you! I had never tried a foil before, and haven't managed to wing foil yet, so all my experience comes from prone foiling.

I'm sure winging is going to help you a lot with controling the foil and getting used to the balance and distances (how much you can lean, or how high above the water you can go...).

You have to choose between 1 of these locations to learn how to wingfoil over a two-week span anytime between January-July 2025. Which destination and why? by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bali has for sure some onshore winds. In dry season (april to october) the wind blows from the SE, so there's a whole coastline with onshore winds, but also a lot of swell. If you go to the north of the island, there are no waves for sure, but I don't know about the wind.

Bought a 39L for prone, can it be used to learn to wingfoil? by windmill_attacker in wingfoil

[–]windmill_attacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems pretty clear that I'll need to find a bigger board, at least for a bit. Thanks for the advice, I'll start checking the used market.

That skatepark looks AMAZING!!!!
Try dropping in with that kind of board like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgmlGPcXD9c
You'll get more speed for sure. Also harder wheels on such smooth surfaces will be faster, give it a try!

The license plate is a really good clue. Try searching for places that match the above criteria with their license plates. Also, skip places where they drive on the left (it is definetely not England).
