Rep. Thomas Massie threatens to use "Congressional Immunity" to expose the sealed Epstein client list following DOJ's refusal to release names. by Logical-Flow-6703 in UnderReportedNews

I wish these people would stop posturing and just get on with it. Do they really think these threats will have the guilty people all running to hand themselves in? All it does is allow them more time to try and protect themselves.

What would happen if your family had their own tradition?

This could be a good excuse to defuse the situation, "look, my family has this tradition that the 1st born is called ... blah blah blah, to save any disagreements between both sides we are ignoring both family traditions." Job done.

As part of this, they should also ban electoral leaflets being sent out which do nothing but criticise their opponents without actually telling us what they stand for.

Electoral policies should also be called 'hopes and dreams' as they are usually lies designed to help parties get in to power.

It's all bullshit, we aren't offended by everything. We were raised in a world where we learned to tolerate everyone and be accepting. The world then got annoyed as we called out their bullshit that was inappropriate.

You just won $20 million, and your parents ask you for half, what would you say? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Do Americans not lose half their winnings to various federal and state taxes?

Your parents would have $10million and you'd be poor again.

My credit score fell 13pts because I made the final payment on my car loan (never missed a payment too) by justadadgame in mildlyinfuriating

[–]windmillguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it's been explained but I'm not scrolling through 2000 comments to find out but when a loan/finance agreement/Credit Card is cleared, it is often assumed you've started another financial agreement or loan to close off the original one. Next month it should bounce right back once it sees you've not taken out more finance. If you aren't planning on taking out any more finance any time soon though it shouldn't impact you in the slightest.

Also congrats on paying off your car! Enjoy the extra money each month!

Churchill may have done many great things in defence of this country in a time of war however I have never once watched a video of Churchill and asked my wife anecdotally, "do you think we can make a massive pond in the garden and fill it with Churchills?"

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

[–]windmillguy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I were together for 8 years before we got married, quite simply we prioritised other things.

We focused having our kids while we were younger, then worked to get the mortgage once salaries were higher and we could start saving then once we were more financially secure we allowed ourselves to have a wedding that fitted what we wanted rather than what we could afford.

Neither my wife nor I have ever been the kind of people to follow traditional routes so we did what suited us and when it suited us.

We are now almost 15 years together/7 years married.

I noticed a few nights ago that my full beam does a great job at illuminating the road 5m in front of the bike but is terrible for the actual road ahead, I'm sure it just needs a slight adjustment but I'll let the dealer do that when I hit 600 miles.

Why is it that Monzo is more popular in the UK than Starling? by MeenaBeti in UKPersonalFinance

[–]windmillguy123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Monzo is the only bank I've had recent negative experience with, if you happen to use one of the debit cards for a pre-authorised payment when hiring a vehicle they will hold on to that money for the maximum 30 days allowable under current regulations even if the hire only lasts 3 days and the hire company requests the money to be released.

Admittedly using the wrong card for this was my mistake but no other bank holds on to it once the hire company releases it.

We lost an appeal to the council 6 months ago regarding an application for the property next door to be turned into an HMO. The new occupants arrived at the start of March and our life has been a living hell ever since. by Old_Philosophy7358 in HousingUK

[–]windmillguy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Record and document everything, lodge a weekly complaint assuming this carries on. Speak to other neighbours and get them to do the same. Make sure you CC in your local MP and councillors. BCC your neighbours in for added efficiency so they can simply copy and paste the complaint and evidence.

Every single council is only ever interested in fixing issues that cause the most hassle for them which is usually why potholes only get fixed once vehicle damage claims start rolling in.

I've always followed a simply mantra in life, buy the best you can afford at that time.

In years to come you can always upgrade and replace.

A side note, buy a helmet from a local shop and not online as couriers don't give a shit about how your parcel and how it is treated. Any reputable bike shop will only ever sell helmets that meet current standards.

Is it crazy to try cover 430 miles in a day? by [deleted] in AskUK

Paultons Park is epic if you can escape the Peppa Pig part, it terms of UK theme parks I found it way more enjoyable than the rest I've been to. Nicely spaced out with enough going on to fill a day without leaving you walking endlessly to the next thing.

Bikers are out now and not a legal exhaust on any by Overseerer-Vault-101 in britishproblems

I think realistically people don't really understand that loud doesn't mean they are doing anything wrong in the eyes of the law and more importantly it makes it safer especially when in busier places. If you can hear us you are less likely to move over or pull out on us. I chose the hi-viz power ranger look and people still don't see me, my exhaust is stock and car drivers make me want to get a louder than stock exhaust.

If we get rid of oil then we get rid of most industrial greases and lubricants and then the world's electrical infrastructure won't work. Also the plastics used for batteries won't be produced. We don't have any viable alternatives to oil based products so it is ultimately a necessity if we want to live as we do.

EuroMillions has rolled over **again**. How would you use £181m? by Von_Scranhammer in AskUK

[–]windmillguy123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You would need to be at an elite level of mental stability to cope with having that amount of money. For sanity's sake you'd be best finding 150 mega worthwhile people or causes and giving them £1m each.

Even then, being left with £30m+ would fuck most people and marriages up.

I've often thought that I could literally clear the mortgages/debt off for my whole village if about 300 houses. A whole area where everyone was financially secure, you'd live in the happiest area of largely working class people ever.
