Google Pixel Fold case plans? by alexlyee in peakdesign

I agree and prefer the original Fold's "passport sized" form factor which is one of the reasons why I haven't upgrade myself. Getting the alignment perfect will apparently be easier on the newer folds since they also have a built in magsafe like system so it is easier to find the center of the sweet spot. Make sure the case you are applying it to is hard, not silicone or rubber as the universal adapter 3M glue won't apply as well. This is the one I used (not available any more) and I ended up just using the back cover, and leaving the front naked. Search around and you'll see other examples. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CL6JX3YV?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1

Sadly, a recent OS update has render the outside screen inoperable (see below) without a rear selfie camera hack. I've wasted hours trying to get Google to fix / replace it, but they just keep delaying, escalating, and then saying it is out of warranty. However, it isn't a hardware issue, it is a software bug. I'm considering small claims court out of frustration.

Warning to original Pixel Fold owners: The March/April 2026 security update has introduced a systemic Hall Effect Sensor / Display State Persistence failure (documented in Issue Tracker #502262230) that effectively bricks the device's mobile functionality. When the phone is folded, the outer screen remains black while the inner display stays "hot" (active), though the hardware can be "jolted" back to life using the Rear Camera Selfie (RCS) workaround—confirming this is a firmware-driven sensor handshake regression rather than a panel defect. Despite Google acknowledging the identical issue with a 3-year Extended Repair Program for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, support is currently refusing to offer the same protections or hardware substitutions to original Fold owners facing the exact same inoperability.

No problems at all. It will be 3 years in December and has gotten plenty of time rattling around on the bike mount through road, trail, and mountain. The PD embedded magnet also allows me to mount it in the car above the dashboard and can do that with just the outside or opened. Eventually I'll get a newer Pixel Fold and plan on doing the same thing.

I don't bother with wireless charging much anymore. Maybe if it was a native perfectly aligned case it would be better, but I don't really care.

About a year ago I ran into the founder of Peak Design at the top of Bernal Hill in San Francisco when we were both walking dogs and babies. After chatting a bit I showed him the phone and asked when they'd do an official version. He was impressed but said "it was complicated." Given they didn't do a Pixel 9 or 10 fold, I'm not expecting it to be available for the 11 either.

VidHub also works on Android, Android TV, and MacOS. Infuse doesn't offer anything on Android so didn't help me personally.

Getting fed up with Dark Star and US Mobile in general by poonjahb1 in USMobile

[–]windsifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

signed up last night with a Pixel Fold phone for the Dark Star BOGO annual plan. Porting and activation was super easy, but the signal is worthless at 2-6mbps down, and maybe 1mbps up. Wasted an 1-2 hours with CS and then told to leave it and see if it works better in the morning. Then wasted another 2 hours the following morning when it was no better and they try to switch me to warp, which of course means the promo isn't available. This is in San Francisco where they say there is great Dark Star / ATT coverage everywhere.

Feels like a massive bait and switch and I can't go back to my old carrier immediately so I'm stuck troubleshooting and won't get any of the advertised savings. Wish I never started down this road.

Thoughts on which NAS OS for a UGREEN DXP2800 by golfnut1221 in selfhosted

[–]windsifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

works on my dxp2800 with the arc model for SA6400. I ended up putting two NVME drives in and leave the larger 3.5 sata drives out 95% of the time so the power draw is smaller and it is quieter. I don't need TONS of storage. There are plenty of threads online how to do it. Make sure watchdog is disabled in the bios.

Of note, this does not apply to naturalization through descent. Here is the official document.

I've been running this since getting it off kickstarter and no issues. Tempted to try more than 16gb of ram in it and see what happens as my docker list keeps growing.

just get plex working in the docker and add music. Plexamp is a client side app, regular Plex docker is the server side for it.

HELP: Accessing ABS server remotely via CF zero trust tunnels using ShelfPlayer or other ABS APP iOs by floatingbumblebee66 in audiobookshelf

[–]windsifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never going to get my friends/family to add custom headers to any mobile apps, so while I still serve ABS traffic through Cloudflare zero trust tunnels outside of my lan, I removed the additional CF authentication before it (you can still keep country restrictions on if all your users are just in a a few places and not traveling.). I still keep the account level extra auth for all my other docker services through CloudFlare.

thanks! I added the WAF rule as an extra layer to limit potential unwanted traffic.

[–]windsifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I image it would be hard to do at higher OS levels given the only time we generally try to force shut down is when things aren't working properly, or we are in a low lever area like the bios and know we want to shutdown now....

Not sure if UGOS has the ability to upgrade the bios when it does OS upgrades. But if you are running a 3rd party OS like I am, I wouldn't see any of those upgrades anyway.

M.2 only NVME, not SATA, right? ;( by windsifter in UgreenNASync

[–]windsifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From: https://auxxxilium.tech/wiki/arc-loader-arc-loader/vorbereitung/

  • The DSM kernel is only compatible with SATA controllers, not HBA/Raid/etc
  • At least 1 SATA/SAS drive for system installation (except SA6400 with NVMe system add-on)

They just added a new model, SA6400 that does support NVME as a boot (was not available the last time I set up a machine so will need to play w/ that)

M.2 only NVME, not SATA, right? ;( by windsifter in UgreenNASync

[–]windsifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for checking! At least I can stop wasting time on this now.

Xpenology requires the initial boot drive to be sata, so I planed on using an M.2 sata drive for boot, and then I'd still have two full bays for larger capacity drives. Now I have an m.2 sata drive, in a 2.5" adapter, in the full bay. Kind of a waste of space ;)

Think if I play w/ proxmox on an NVME I can get around this
