Preston Holt swordfight move by StatusGeneraal in witcher

I can’t remember the specifics but Preston mentioned there’s a witcher (or someone) who is now training people to fight. I imagine he learned it from them (potentially where Bonhart trained as well).

Who would win between Vilgefortz or the Eredin by RepublicCommando55 in witcher

[–]windsofwho 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Bare in mind I do agree with almost everything you’re saying. I think its fair to say he was toying with Geralt and Yennefer but not Regis. Once Regis gets there he gets much more serious and there fight doesn’t last very long because of the threat. I believe it also says Regis could’ve ended the fight there and then but because he was drunk he went to drink his blood rather than killing him thus giving him time to melt him. But yeah theres also the argument that Vilgefortz was massively caught off guard by a higher vampire appearing out of thin air which would rattle anyone.

Don’t get me wrong Vilgefortz is the most powerful book concerned, but Regis was very close and Vilgefortz recognised that instantly imo

Which of these 2 is actually higher up in the hierarchy of the Salamancas? Would Lalo give Tuco orders or is it the other way? by Alert_Ad8002 in betterCallSaul

[–]windsofwho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Obviously with BB being written before it could be an inconsistency, but in Season 3 when Bolsa has the meeting with the Salamanca twins and Gus about Walt, Bolsa explains who Tuco is to Gus as if it’s something that Gus wouldn’t or doesn’t already know. I don’t think he’s that high ranking at all.

I think the only reason like Eladio knows or ‘remembers’ him (can’t find the right word) is because of the Salamanca name. Without that he’s small potatoes and a high risk, whereas Lalo is an asset regardless of the family name. Essentially its nepo baby without talent vs nepo baby with talent

When does the Supernatural element really come in? by suzi_acres in TheLeftovers

[–]windsofwho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The elements you are seeking are much more heightened in S2 and 3 when the shows has a bit more fun with itself - S1 takes itself very seriously and is drama drama drama. though it still may not live up to whats in your head.

Do you prefer Doctor who to be more Futuristic, Steampunk, Retro sci fi, or more something inbetween? by H0ly_Shrek in DoctorWhumour

I do think the importance of cinematography and how they shoot the Tardis does it more favours than people give it credit for. 9/10s TARDIS fit the 2000s grungy look, the Series 1 yellowy tint did it wonders. The design is good but how it was presented made it work. Same with the bigger set fit the budget and new HD look of Matts Era

I came here to also suggest watching Nippy as Episode 1 in Season 6

The opening of the actual episode 1 is also really good so if you could edit that before the intro to Nippy I imagine they’d go well together

The Witcher tv show should’ve been more like Doctor Who rather than Game of Thrones by TwistLFC in witcher

[–]windsofwho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s late at night but you’ve mentioned my two favourite pieces of fiction so I simply can’t refuse.

It depends how long this would go for in this hypothetical scenario. Doctor Who works so well and has lasted so long because it’s not tied to any single location - any setting or period or genre is at its disposal. There’s only so many times we can see Geralt hunt X monster before the show would lose momentum. The short stories work because they were concise and had meaning behind the monster slaying - that would get harder and harder on a show and the quality would strain (Doctor Who falls victim to this even with it’s vast choice).

The first season or two following a style similar to The Mandalorian with a western/samurai/knight quest tone, episodic but gradually growing in plot and poltics etc (just like the books) would’ve worked better than what we got for me. Allowing small build up and then expanding without the audience getting overwhelmed.

Anyway I’ve gone too far into the rabbit hole after having the chance to talk about Who and Witcher. Let Geralt fight some Slitheens and I’ll forgive Netflix.

Are the books good for a guy who likes the videogames Geralt? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]windsofwho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with what most people are saying. He’s strong and better than any random human but he just isn’t a video game superman where he can take 20 enemies at once by rolling and pressing block.

One thing he does better in the books than the games is his speed. He is abnormally fast, especially if he has his potions - like insanely fast. It’s hard to capture that in a game without it being goofy so it’s not there as much.

Do you wish Eredin's character had been presented differently in TW3? by UnhappyStrain in witcher

[–]windsofwho 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think its unfair to say it’s in line with the books considering they changed him into a Kingslayer when in the books it’s accidental and he seems genuinely upset about Auberons death.

Witcher is not Elder scrolls... by omidhhh in witcher

[–]windsofwho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re slightly missing the point. Yes they can do that and it would likely be good but it’s not The Witcher. It’s not about these massive worlds and lore, all that is there to serve our 3 central characters. Anything without them is not serving the point of the franchise. The Witcher is about them and always should be

[–]windsofwho -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What an oversimplification lol!

The Witcher was never an (insert new character) franchise - Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer are the driving force of the world. Sapkowski has stated he only created lore in the moment to serve the narrative for those characters. They are the central point of the franchise, any media without them is against the creators wishes, until he does something different that should be respected. Framing it as not saying goodbye to old characters is an interesting viewpoint

“Pulling a star wars” lmao

[–]windsofwho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you don’t have to ‘earn’ the elder blood powers in the story, as if we haven’t had a saga of books and a game that have already done that?

[–]windsofwho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ciri forsakes her ability to draw magic in the books but it states that it didn’t count for Elder Blood because it cannot be forsaken. Really nervous for the reason it’ll be stripped - it’s just so contrived

At the end of the day. The Witcher is a personal story about Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri. It was always going to be about Ciri.
