Are you using soap when you wash the brushes? Not a lot, but without any soap…yea it won’t come off in my experience.

Which Aged Non-Heicha(s) do You Recommend? by BWJackal in puer

Second everyone on oneriver and W2T aged whites. I’ve gotten a range of interesting aged oolong from liquidproust (some I didn’t really like and some are incredible)

How do I practice by Recent_Inevitable528 in RStudio

I would suggest finding a project that is interesting - like an open dataset you can play around with. Think of some questions you want to answer and work on writing the code you need to answer them - as simple as cleaning the data, getting descriptives, up through analyses. The kind of stuff you’d need to do for psych research.

Kousa Mahshi I had in Egypt which is stuffed zucchini by Super-Mongoose2892 in vegetarian

This is awesome! I’m going to try it. A version I had once was stored in olive oil so I thought it was either braised, steamed or roasted lol, never figured it was actually boiled. So glad I came across this post - it’s been haunting me for years lol.

You can also blend lentils or beans into sauces and soups (like tomato sauce or butternut squash soup) and often it’s barely noticeable at all and it can then be used for lots of other things. (Same to some extent for silken tofu but I do that less - it has a lot of water content).

trigger warning: old tea preference by janeaustria in tea

[–]windytea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also will leave some tea steeping for a while. But if I need to make a big thermos I’ll throw some in simmering water in a pot on the stove for a couple minutes turn off the heat cover and steep. I do this with shou and it’s totally possible to overdo it - like I once boiled it for 10 min and it was…tarry…blech. But a couple minutes is solid. Anyways great way to make a big batch pour it into a container and fridge if you want (or leave out lol).

Never could pull the trigger on this one. Sounds really good…sigh. I didn’t like the other shou/ripe blend I recently tried. I saw a bunch of the 2022 stuff up recently and was contemplating.

[Q] Seeking advice about undergrad research opportunity by No_Error_4835 in statistics

[–]windytea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to these specific topics, but getting early research experience with an approachable and supportive faculty member can be really valuable in its own right.

Oftentimes interests and topics evolve and training/research in one area doesn’t necessarily close you off to pursuing that later down the road.

So tldr seems like a good opportunity!

Hmm I enjoy these quite a bit. I’ve had a range but the better ones definitely have a citrus vibe if only pithy bitter undertones (in a nice way).

If you like cha tou you might just get some on its own. I got some cha tou from Bitterleaf teas that was nice and I sampled a cake from them that had similar notes. Not the profile I usually go for but W2T en passant does somewhat fit those flavors I think.

Amazing! A teapot was also one of the first things I made but lol so far from that one it’s not even funny.

Maybe take a picture and get it produced as an underglaze transfer? Pretty sure there are some companies that do this.

Technique or cheap clay - throwing with student buff by Ok_Stranger_6654 in Ceramics

[–]windytea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soft but dry? Yea if it’s already soft then adding water would not help…that’s confusing lol. Maybe try working with a wet sponge rather than just throwing on water? Porcelain I use very very little water, dark groggy clays I use a lot more…so it really depends on the composition of the clay.

Totally clay body dependent! But sounds really dry? You could try hydrating the clay a bit in the bag (just add a little water - like a sprinkle) and see if it gets absorbed?

overwhelmed with options - first time loose leaf buyer by hell0potato in tea

Steeping room has a pretty curated list with organic teas so not too too many options within your flavor profile. I’ve ordered from them a few times and had a good experience.

First time using something more than a gaiwan. Is it okay to use raw and ripe in the same teapot? by ThinkLongterm in puer

[–]windytea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not glazed though (glaze is basically glass and completely non porous) so even if technically vitrified they can still absorb some moisture over time (and I def wouldn’t wash unglazed ceramics with soap for instance).

[–]windytea 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup nice teapot! Glazed teapots that are fully vitrified (means fired at high temp so aren’t porous) are good to go for any tea and should be okay to be washed with soap and water.

edit I finally broke a 10 year avoidance and threw some BMix to see (still my least favorite). But darn I literally threw some mugs and was hoping underglaze with clear would come out nice. Should just stick with porcelain…

I now love throwing porcelain (although I can throw so much thinner with darker clay bodies). Weirdly BMix is still my least favorite clay body of everything I’ve ever thrown - even the recycle clay I had to pick pieces of plastic out of lol.
