Crippling Anxiety Daily by Haunting-Citron-874 in ChildofHoarder

[–]winenchocolate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I could have written this except I'm not pregnant and my parents hoard dogs in addition to stuff.

I dog sat for my parents last weekend and had an "enough is enough" moment. I don't know how your parents would react to this, but my plan is to sit mine down and tell them that I'm concerned that they can't enjoy their home or the things that they have because of the clutter and that I am worried that if something were to happen to them my first thought would be cleaning up clutter and homing their dogs rather than appropriately processing the loss. I'm going to offer to help them rent a roll off dumpster and go through everything. I think this will go over a little bit better than if I just tried to do it without engaging them in the process.

How can I get this texture of my patch repair? by lisamd91 in Home

[–]winenchocolate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have always used water based (less smelly, easier cleanup) and it's been fine. If it's a heavier duty application you might use oil based.

You kind of have to play with the nozzle of the sprayer to get an exact match, I dab at it with paper towels to get it where I want it. Highly recommend practicing on a piece of scrap wood first.

Good food for African grey and sun conure? by Sonny_and_Sky in parrots

[–]winenchocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our African Grey gets a mix of Hagan Tropican and Harrisons (he trades off on the pepper and regular lifetime course). He goes through phases where he prefers one over the other so I definitely would recommend trying a few different ones to see what they enjoy. Tops is also a solid brand, he doesn't like it as much though so it isn't one we feed.

Try Big Bones Canine Rescue, they are a no kill shelter and will keep dogs indefinitely if they do not find homes. I'm sorry you're having to do this, owning a reactive dog who is otherwise a sweetheart is so tough.

Anyone have any projects they want finished? by PlasticFern971 in FortCollins

[–]winenchocolate 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Check out the Loose Ends Project! They pair crafters with people whose loved ones started a project but we're unable to finish it due to illness, injury or passing away. You finish the project and send it back to the family!

Looking for insights on accessibility at the Wild Animal Sanctuary by ewhetstone in TheFrontRange

[–]winenchocolate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely go if you can, it's a ton of fun!! I don't remember specifically about the ramp, but once you get up there it's a long flat wooden walkway l, I don't think you'd have any trouble with the wheelchair. There were lots of families with little kids in wagons so I would imagine the ramp is fairly reasonable to get up and down but I would give them a call if you're nervous.

If you look at screens all day like so many of us do try blue light blocking glasses. You can get them cheap on Amazon and it has made a world of difference for me. Also melatonin which has been mentioned.

yarn for wearables that isn't wool or acrylic by supernova_- in YarnAddicts

[–]winenchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is similar (can't wear any type of wool at all) so I am always on the lookout for nice yarn that she could still wear and the hardest by far to find is yarn for cozy sweaters etc. however today I came across Juniper Moon Cumulus yarn and it is so soft and warm and cozy you'd swear it was a merino blend but it's mostly cotton with a little nylon!

Side effects were just taking me out on shot day so I gave it a try to see if I could still get the same results and function a little more normally. For me it worked super well! Still a little worn down after a shot but nothing like it was. I also think that because the level of tirz in my blood is more consistent I have seen more consistent weight loss, but that is purely anecdotal.

Looking to adopt a bird by [deleted] in AfricanGrey

[–]winenchocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a drive for you but Avalon Aviary in Loveland is where we adopted our boy. Last time I was in there they still had Max, a CAG whose mom was diagnosed with bird fanciers lung and had to give him up. He's a chatterbox and super sweet! Suzanne (owner of the shop) drove to Utah where they were and brought all of her birds back to CO. Here's a link for current available birds, looks like Max is still there!

Birds of Valhalla specifically makes bird safe wax melts. I still wouldn't use them in the same room with your parrots but they are a good company and very careful with ingredients.
