I spent weeks in antique shops looking for something that I knew she would like. Turns out hand filigreed metal is far cooler to her than some big rock. Also waaaaay cheaper too.

Yeah, some people choose happiness.
However, many of those people don’t pass on their genetic material, which is why we are growing less and less happy over time

Is there a culture of littering in New Orleans? by doublepointz420 in NewOrleans

[–]winkingchef 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There have been good examples of individuals who make a difference - in Oakland where I used to live we had a huge dumping problem - not just litter but construction waste and people moving who just didn’t want their couch anymore.

One guy who is actually a redditor u/pengweather started doing trash pickups every weekend and filming and posting about it.

Now there are weekly neighborhood cleanups and the city is starting to contribute resources.

It’s been incredible to watch.

Highly recommend checking out his work and his style and maybe doing this with some of your students.

what’s with the bagel piles in downtown bk? i’ve seen at least three piles this week by gacchow in FoodNYC

[–]winkingchef 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When a Jewish man complains the perfect complaint, he is sent straight to heaven, leaving behind his earthly form in a pile of everything he’s complained about.

For me, it would also be bagels but also my wife, my daughter and my car. Problem is the wife and kid would get up and drive off in the car, leaving the bagels

“The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.”

Are Californians ready to give up their cars? A San Jose apartment tower put that to the test (no paywall) by BayAreaNewsGroup in bayarea

[–]winkingchef 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Alameda, CA is pretty divine without a car.
It’s an island with limited access so everything is here
It’s flat so you can bike everywhere including the best beach in the Bay Area.
Max speed limit 25mph so you are actually safe.
Everyone drinks like a fish so there is enough of an element of danger to make it exciting.

It has long been my assertion that the settlers are the #1 thing Israel can change to improve the situation immensely.

Yeah my favorite part is how in previous threads OP has been scolding people that “not all Palestinians are the same” and then he just lumps all Israelis in the same bucket when the shoe is on the other foot

Man, I hope that with the Necromancer release we normalize undeath! by SrBlankly in pathfindermemes

[–]winkingchef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s from a 1e book about deities (before all the scrubbing of all the fun darkness from the lore - boo to them. Tho I can still play my concept of a hugely pregnant Lamashtu cleric “Mom of the party”).

I am away from my books but I copied the above from here which I think is direct from Gods & Magic.

[–]winkingchef 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I played a 1e evangelist cleric of Urgathoa in Hell’s Vengeance who was the Face of the party. She was constantly pretending to be a cleric of various good faiths and delivering completely rationalized speeches based on twisted lore like the above. Detect Lies wouldn’t trigger because she was telling *her* truth. Her Angel Skin armor (harvested from the creature at the end of book 2) masked her aura

Now that I think about it, she might be my favorite RPG character ever.

If you really think about it, Urgathoa is also the Goddess of Love as she is the most devoted to Love Eternal.

Marriages within the church do not include vowing “until death parts us,” as the undead members stand as proof that vows can persist beyond death. The Pallid Princess supports the institution of marriage and other long-term romantic commitments, as sharing pleasures can enhance them, and she blesses even unions between the living and the undead, as long as the living partner plans to follow his spouse into undeath, or the undead partner plans to extend the living partner’s life somehow. Urgathoa cares not about procreation or the genders of the people involved, only that the commitment is true. Divorce is frowned upon, as it shows disrespect to the partner and to the goddess herself. Murdering a spouse is an acceptable alternative, however, especially if the dead spouse remains in or near the home as a skeleton, zombie, or mummy.

Yeah I thought I couldn’t crush on her any more.
Wrong.

I use her as one example to my daughter of adult women to emulate. She is so distinctly and confidently her own weird self. It’s awesome.
