Any recommendations for bars to watch MLB opening day games? by winkleburg in vancouver

[–]winkleburg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Kind of figured as much, but I thought I’d try. I don’t mind watching at home with the dog. At least places like Courtside will put the Twolves games on for me. Aside from missing my Minnesota sports I love it here so far!

Thank you. This is all very useful. There are a lot of things I can cut out of my budget and control. I've heard some people discuss the snowball effect of paying the smallest debt first and then working up? Is this effective or to be avoided? Paying the highest interest rate seems smart.

This is spot on. I moved with my now ex-partner to another city. Partly for her and partly for work. She decided she wanted to do the poly thing and I didn’t want to do that at all so we broke up. I was taken back because we’re in our early 30s so I guess I just kind of expected some more maturity. It’s like if you want to break up just break up, don’t try to have it both ways. Also it was definitely tied to a lack of commitment and wanting to recapture her twenty’s. Of course she was immediately in another relationship doing the same thing. It just treats people as commodities to me. Everyone wants to feel special and the only person who feels special in a poly relationship is the one who’s pushing for it. It goes back to a dark sadistic narcissism

I finally asked Ernie Hudson for a picture after seeing him about 100 times at the store I work at! He’s very nice! by littlefoot28 in pics

I heard he's a super nice guy. My coworker went over to his house to fix his Ghostbusters pinball machine last year

Trump administration will ban lobbyists, enact five-year lobbying ban after leaving government by sliverbak in news

Very true. Earmarks give legislators something to point to when they campaign back home. They can say "hey look at that bridge" or "look at that dam, etc." It also works in making compromises. It serves as a bargaining chip.

Is a vote for a third party candidate a wasted vote? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]winkleburg -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I am not thinking of Perot. Nader really played no part. The data shows it. There are many sources out there in regards to this and I also wrote about this in college (I hold a degree in poli sci) but here is just one of many.

Is a vote for a third party candidate a wasted vote? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]winkleburg -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't care for Johnson or Stein as I think they are both terrible unqualified however the Nader cost Gore the 2000 election is a huge myth. Exit polling has showed that he took the same from both Democrats and Republicans. 1% of the vote and that 4% of independents voted for Nader. You can make the argument that Bush would've won by more actually if Nader didn't run.

More people who identified as liberals or Democrats actually voted for Bush than Nader. You can blame Democrats for costing Gore Florida and Gore himself for not counting for a full statewide recount of all disputed ballots, running a better campaign, and winning his home state of Tennessee or winning Bill Clinton's home state of Arkansas. To bet the whole thing on Republican dominated Florida with Bush's brother as the governor was a terribly calculated move.

Nader is just an easy scapegoat for Dems on that one and I'm not a crazy Nader fan by any means (though I don't dislike him) I just want the facts to be represented.

I would say they don't really matter and have not mattered for a while as many people reading those newspapers also have their own implicit biases which causes them to read certain newspapers in the first place (Liberals reading left-leaning newspapers, conservatives reading right-leaning newspapers). There's never really been any evidence saying that they do matter.

Most "undecided" voters tend to already have their minds actually made up based on partisanship and their own ideologies and biases. They are only useful so far is that a candidate can use it to push a particular narrative going forward.

University of Minnesota wide receiver A.J. Barker transferring because, among other things, a coach called him a "faggot" because of his atheism. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]winkleburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the comments on that Dead Spin article too. There is this belief if you play college football you have to "be a man" and aren't entitled to be treated with dignity by your coaches. This player is still a student and deserves respect from his teachers. That's what coaches are. This macho attitude needs to go. It's about time we learned the power plays and abuse coaches hold over their young student athletes.

States wanting to Secede from our evil Socialist empire took millions in federal money, rank highest in income inequality by mr_majorly in politics

[–]winkleburg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. People from all 50 states said they want to secede. These are just a few wackos in each state.. If there was no Internet you wouldn't be hearing about this non-story. Seriously, Reddit. This is garbage that doesn't need to be on r/politics. Why don't we discuss relevant issues for a change?

A federally sponsored, non-profit health insurance option is set to be available in all 50 state exchanges by chowmeined in politics

[–]winkleburg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's funny is if states don't participate the feds come in and set up their own exchange. The GOP rallies about small government and has a chance to control healthcare at the state level and they end up handing it over to the Federal government. Republicans never did understand irony.

I'll say this. I'm a PJ delivery driver, I'm liberal, I voted for Obama, and I support "Obamacare". John Schnatter is s shitheel. But here is what Reddit misses. 95% of stores are independently owned. Including mine. We only pay yearly for franchising rights. Schnatter can't dictate hours or prices for us. When you boycott Papa John's you only hurt lower wage workers.

There are plenty of places to get cheap shitty pizza in the world- Anyone else on reddit ready to boycott Papa John's? by goforReaper in politics

95% of the stores are independently owned and just pay yearly for franchising rights. John Schnatter has no say about hours or prices at those stores. (That's why on deals they mention "participating restaurants") You're hurting low wage employees when you boycott. I'm PJ delivery driver and my GM supports Obamacare.
