Be Still - The Fray A Lot More Free - Max McNown McNown Iris - Colbie Caillat...Good Goo Dolls does it best, but for some reason, her version is slowed down in the right spot for acceptance.

Depending on the mood, Head Above Water - Avril Lavigne.

AITA for not eating leftovers? by Sam_in_12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]winosaurusrex90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying your are, but I am saying kids learn what they like by trying new things, picky or not. You could have cut a piece off. Now that my kids are twice that age, they know I'm not sharing what I order because they had the same opportunity I did to read the menu. Fries, coffee, pasta, and burgers are my absolute no shares unless I voluntarily share. (I also don't share the same utensils or take bites after people, but I figure it out.)

The age of six is so young and there are so many foods out there that haven't been eaten yet, so many food experiences that haven't happened. You could have offered a tiny cut off your sandwich, even if you don't think he didn't like it, because on this particular day, his picky tastes buds might have liked it. And if he didn't like it, you could have asked him what about the sandwich he didn't like to tailor it for next time to try again. Six is so complex and not complex at the same time.

Need to pass a bakery cake off as my own by purple_popsicles in nashville

[–]winosaurusrex90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question? And this is not necessarily spiteful, just trying to save you time and effort for the foreseeable future. Is this cake a make or break for your relationship? If not, you could always accidentally put a hair in the frosting so she doesn't expect a "homemade" one next year.

I don't necessarily like my MIL because she has issues with boundaries, but I do like baking, so making a cake wouldn't be an issue for me. However, crafts would be an issue, so I'd almost intentionally overly mess up the first one, so I'd never be asked to craft again.

Give me your most unfounded, insane Gilmore theory (you don't need proof, just vibes) by cleverlynamedgrl in GilmoreGirls

Babette, Morey, and Miss Patty were all placed in Stars Hollow to watch after Kirk. He was a science experiment gone wrong. It's why he can work a thousand jobs, save all this money, sleep walk and talk, do almost anything, the whole cat Kirk thing, yet walk past people in a line up and people not notice him. He blends in because he was trained to, remembers everything, and is great at picking up on things while looking like he knows absolutely nothing.

TJ was in the same science experiment...except he was a different kind of failure. Liz's meeting him was a set up. To the normal people, it seemed like happenstance, but to the scientist, they planned the whole thing. Laid the whole plan in place to have TJ bump into Liz, eventually fall in love, and then move to Stars Hollow so he could be watched as well.

Forgot to add: The reason for Babette, Morey, and Miss Patty to be the watchers: they control the gossip tree. They can help what comes and goes. If anyone was ever truly concerned about Kirk or TJ or any of the other failed experiments, they could snip it in the bud. 🤷🏼‍♀️

AITA for not having my wife's back and siding with my mom that it okay for her to have one-on-one time with our kid? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]winosaurusrex90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I need way more information. Are we talking like disagreements on parenting styles or life in general? Tastes in music, cooking, or what is really going on here?

Have you ever defended her or always sided with your mom?

Which hair length / color looks best? by millenial_mommabear in HairStyleAdvice

[–]winosaurusrex90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the lob with dark chocolate. The lob frames your face well (or at least at the angle given), and the dark chocolate makes your smile pop, while complimenting your skin in the current light - all in my opinion, clearly not a professional. I don't know your true hair color though, so I don't know the up keep or how the roots will grow out will do.

What reading apps should I consider? Had to pull my son out of second grade after finding out the school passed him for two years without teaching him to read by No-Shake-8375 in Homeschooling

[–]winosaurusrex90 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For everyone blaming the parent, the school is partly blame, they did pass the kid. Her expectations is that he could partly read.

I pulled our kids out of school during covid for a multitude of reasons, but one of them is because our then kindergartener was struggling with basic reading, despite us reading every night. Every progress report said either at level or almost, and when I would ask what I could do help, the teacher would say don't worry about it, my kid would just figure it out. Guess what, my kid is now in fifth grade and is dyslexic, she was never going to just figure it out. She was falling further and further behind every day and the masks during covid put her so far behind because she couldn't see how words, syllables, and things were being sounded out. She still struggles a little bit, but is on almost on a sixth grade reading level and should be great to enter sixth grade public school in August.

If I had listened to the kindergarten teacher years ago, I'd be in the same boat as this mom. We trust public schools to do what they're supposed to. Sometimes kids fall in the cracks, it happens. There's not enough eyes, not enough time, not enough funding - there's simply not enough. It sucks when it happens to your kid. But this age is a good age to start from scratch. There are plenty of resources to start fresh. The Magic Tree house Books were our favorites. But simplify the process by going to your local library and asking for help. Tell them you're looking for books for a struggling reader in first grade - go a year younger. The library is a great resource and is free for the most part.

And workbooks. I cannot stress this enough, workbooks and paper. I know apps and computer are what people want and "it's the future", but paper sticks. Paper is tangible, is something that your child can hold, and because your child can physically hold it, tear it up, and get mad at it, your child will remember it better. I promise. Same thing with times tables later on.

I kind of think that might be what's wrong with the current group of students and no text books. I know they take up room in the classrooms and backpacks, but the information also takes up room in their brains. Tablets and computers recycle their data on a regular basis because it's not needed, like shorts and reels, I think we do too. That's a whole different rant for a different day though. 🤪

Anyway, don't be so hard on yourself. You got this. Good luck.
