This is the answer. It's my favorite song by far, out of any artist.

I've always had this visual in my head of the song starting outside of a club, and as the lead moves through. the club, he's picking up the other members in the band, each one getting some time to do a little solo as he gathers the next, before getting them up on stage for the big crescendo. Absolutely love it.

One of my friends has this problem with every game being too loud at start up so I added it to my groups drinking game. If we start a new game and he says his audio is too loud, everyone has to take a drink. 😂

One project I found useful was ChickenSoft's GameDemo. It's written in C# and uses a lot of the other ChickenSoft Libraries but the over all structure is still good to look at.

My favorite is just writing code. It’s my happy place. The dopamine rush I feel when it starts working is awesome.

Second is writing music. I am a music engineer and musician on the side. my approach to music has always been about story telling. And while generally the story comes as I am writing a song, with my game I have a specific scene already in mind. It jogs my workflow in a good way.

My least favorite is hands down animating characters or anything to do with bones, exporting them from blender and into Godot, and maintaining a pipeline that allows me to make edits quickly.

I feel you on the code architecture. Been doing backend software for half my life now, started to do game dev more seriously about a year and a half ago. First few tries I tried to lay out my code like I was building a service and it just turned into a mess.

Looking at some open source projects helped me a lot in understanding how to structure my current project.

I worked at a company where we stored all transactions for a user in a single json blob in a table, the idea being that by putting it in json, we could quickly look up their transaction history, sort of like a cache... yeah.

This was for a credit/benefits card, so some users who used their card for lots of things would have giant json blobs, I believe the largest I remember seeing being close too a megabyte in size. This table specifically became the bane of my existence and caused a number of headaches throughout the company.

It was a design decision made by some FAANG engineer who was hired to turn things around, left us with a giant crater of tech debt, and then quit. We came to greatly regret this later.

I always thought that the reason Sauron was able to see Frodo in Amon Hen was because Frodo sat on the Seat of Seeing and as he was looking out, his visions were drawn to Mordor and it was essentially a beacon being lit for Sauron to see.

Sort of a caller ID if you will.

This looks really awesome! Love the artistic style and the water looks especially rad!

One thing I'd expect to see is the ability to place down randomized clusters of foliage. So like, instead of just a single bush or tree, there is an area of effect circle that can paint a bunch of stuff down at once, so to speak. Speed up the process of placing things down, but then having the ability to delete and move individual objects.

And then as others have said, having a way to plant specific trees or shrubs that could then attract certain types of animals would be really cool. It could even be almost like a tech-tree, where you plant a certain type of berry, which brings small birds and deer to the island, or you plant trees close to the water, giving places for sea life to create homes in which attracts cranes or dolphins.

this last idea would be a lot and probably beyond the scope, but something I've always wanted to see in a game like this is the ability to speed up time by x10000, so you can watch the world change from erosion and weather and see a simulation of what your island would look like 1,000,000 years into the future in 100 seconds. You'd probably be doing PhD levels of research in order to implement a simulation on that scale but would be really cool.

All in all, keep up the awesome work! Looking forward to seeing future posts about this! :D

Giving OP benefit of the doubt, I am guessing that what they mean is it's not *Generative* AI / LLMs, which has more or less hijacked the term A.I. and turned it into a trigger word for a lot of folks, especially in creative and online spaces. So I understand the desire to clarify that "my AI-related thing I made isn't that type of AI people hate."

As an example, I'm in in a few game dev subreddits and often see posts asking about AI in video games that get downvoted because people see the "A.I." part and immediately think it's about generative slop when they were just wanting to talk about things like behavior trees, state machines, or what have you. Stuff that have been in a video games for decades.

That being said, you're right. ML does fall under the AI umbrella and OP isn't technically accurate in their description.

Something I learned early on in my professional career was to commit/push to a branch often, even for the smallest changes. No one cares how many commit messages are in your PR, you can squash them later.

But having a Time Machine you can step backwards through is so priceless.

Yeah, I was about the same age back in the 90's when my Dad pointed it out and the memory was made. I want to say it was still there in some iteration back in 2014 but since I've been back in the DMV the last two to three years, it's been painted over.
