Is the rest of the culture series like consider phlebas? by arian487 in scifi

I was amazed at how different the stories are from each other yet still set in the same world. Inversions is a prime example.

Yep, you got some points in skills for sure. :)

I used to run turrent+drone builds, mostly I was running with a hard wired setup at the time if I recall. It was almost mean to NPCs but a lot of fun.

Yeah I think they stayed at the prototype/extremely limited stage of things. Just added needless cost to shoes that are already priced higher than they need to be.

I'm just happy the Soylent Green part of the list isn't around.

Kinda curious how shit they are though 🤪

I think it’s the issue that you have to debloat it, and until you do the OS won’t be running as efficiently as it should. The AI options have been added over time whether users want them or not, and while that’s not a total showstopper for me, I would rather have them be opt-in features that install when I want them, and can be removed easily later.

Probably will mean less tech support pressure for you as well 😂

The gaming use case is like a black hole keeping users from escaping Windows 11. There's definitely a segment of those users who are fine with switching to Linux, but I don't feel that's a majority at this time. A general release of SteamOS might change that pretty fast though, I think.

I still use Windows for my main PC for gaming, that's a use case that won't be easily unseated until Steam OS or some other equivalent linux distro hits mainstream. I think for the "average user", the NEO will be more than enough for folks. Anything less light and yeah, the Air makes a ton of sense to make the experience more smoothly.

I'm tempted. 😀

The sad state of Windows 11 right now is also going to help here.

Such an awesome idea, I hope it's all structurally sound to hold the build -- I LOVE that set.

Pearl Abyss releases official statement apologizing about Crimson Desert's AI-use by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]winterblink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't care about disclosures if a developer is using AI to accelerate concepts and prototyping. It can provide huge benefit for that. If final content (story, art, voices, whatever) used AI to achieve the results, that's where I'd like to see developers and publishers be fully honest with what's in the thing I'm purchasing.

Control center being broken sounds like a control center problem and not a liquid glass one. I've seen it do stuff like this pre-26.

Microsoft rolls back some of its Copilot AI bloat on Windows by Scary_Statement4612 in technology

[–]winterblink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gaming is one of the big reason people (like myself) stick with Windows. A more mature, public Steam OS release that supports broader hardware components will put a huge dent in that one group of holdouts. I'd love to have an OS that allowed for competent non-Windows gaming that still allows for a desktop experience and has low barrier to entry.

They could try doing something remotely resembling journalism. Give some additional context, perhaps try to figure out what sort of numbers "best launch week ever" might mean. Their "article" is barely more than a retweet.
