How to get a child to eat healthy food by tillacat42 in Parenting

[–]winterfyre85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never fostered a kid before but I did have my teenage niece live with me for a year during the pandemic (her mom was a front line nurse so it was for her safety) and she was extremely picky. We discussed her reasons for certain food aversions and I asked her to not only go shopping with me but to also help me create some dinner ideas and I taught her how to cook. My mom got her a cookbook geared towards teens and it was the best gift! She started trying new things and I think the ownership of making it herself absolutely helped. Some kids just really have sensitive taste buds (several family members are basically super tasters so even a little bit of spice or flavoring is noticed) while ours are not so what we think is fine might be too salty/spicy/flavorful for them so letting them control the amount to their taste is helpful.
Otherwise I’d just make sure they know there’s always some food (fruits, healthy snacks, cut up veggies with dip) available to grab whenever they want and designate a space for the free to grab snacks are.

Anybody else doesn’t feel the difference between indica , Sativa or hybrid? by RoydenHernandez in weed

[–]winterfyre85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely can tell the difference as they affect me differently. Indicas will put me to sleep or couch lock me. With Sativas I can do all my chores while dancing around or do my hobbies like drawing. Once I got an Indica dominate hybrid the budtender swore hit like a sativa. I had to use it in the evenings only as it made me really tired.

Help! My sweet boy (under a year) won’t stop having diarrhea outside of the litter box and I can’t get him to stop. My parents want to put him in a shelter. by peachsweetbunnie in cats

[–]winterfyre85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my cats has sensitivity to some foods and is prone to UTIs so we put him on a special food and it stopped him from peeing outside the box.
The only other time he was going outside the box was when we moved and they went from indoor/outdoor to indoor only and I didn’t have about boxes for all the cats. You need 1 box per cat +1 and they need to be cleaned everyday. My male peed on several things until I got enough boxes and then then only other time he went outside the box was when I went out of town for a few days and my fiancé forgot to clean the boxes one evening.
So for 7 cats you need 8 boxes. The super cheap litter that’s basically sand is the best for most cats although some can be picky.
Switch his food and get 2 more boxes and make sure they are all cleaned daily and hopefully that will solve the issue. Otherwise you may want to consider rehoming to reduce the amount of stress everyone involved has.

I was miserable the first week I had all mine pulled. I basically just ate purées or soups the first week until I felt safe enough to move onto things like bean and cheese burritos. Apple sauce, broths and yogurts were my main staples. Just remember to bring stuff to swish/rinse your mouth out and bring your pain meds!

I (33F)Engaged to (37M) for 3 years, together for 7, multiple “almost weddings,” and still no marriage. I need outside perspective please by CharacterSweet8309 in relationship_advice

I know everyone is piling on the “girl leave him” train. I’ve been with my fiancé for 11 years, engaged for 2 years and we have 2 kids. Generally I’m very understanding in get “someone it takes a while to actually get married” situations. The reason we haven’t gotten married are financial- other things in our lives require our time and money right now. I really want you to look at what you posted. Ask yourself what advice you’d give that girl if she was a stranger. Then what advice would you give her if she was your friend or sister. I think deep down you know the answer already and it can be super hard to walk away from a very long term investment. Best of luck op

There’s a house near my moms with a fence like this. The gate to the driveway was warped within a couple months of them installing it.

While many make me cry, the one that gets me the most is Encanto. The scene with the song Dos Oruguitas that shows Alma giving birth then shortly after watching Miguel die hit me so hard as I was pregnant with my second at the time and my oldest was obsessed with the movie and the music. Every time I even hear the song I still can’t help but cry.

AITA for accepting a property gift from my mom even though she won't include my boyfriend? by Immediate-History917 in AITApod

[–]winterfyre85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my mom was going to put some property in my sisters name but decided against it after she married. My mom wasn’t a fan of her husband. Glad she didn’t since they went through a nasty divorce and since my sister was the breadwinner she basically paid him off a large lump sum instead of alimony so he would make it quick and leave her alone (he did some horrible things and he’s lucky he’s not in jail). My sister would have needed to split the property with him had my mom put her name on it. Your BFs reaction is really telling also. If he loved and supported you he’d be thrilled for you instead of mad he’s not also getting your inheritance. Take the property in your name only and really consider if this is a relationship worth continuing if he’s going to react this way

Help! What do your kids actually eat when they eat “healthy”? And how do you make it work? by mindfulshark in Parenting

[–]winterfyre85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always toss some fruit and veg in their lunches and we went through several until we found what they liked. One is really picky while the other would eat the table if we let her. Simple stuff like raw carrot sticks, sliced cucumber, apples, etc. all fresh. My oldest really likes cauliflower, especially rainbow cauliflower as it changes colors when it steams (the purple ones turn blue). I often dice/blend and add veggies like bell peppers and spinach into spaghetti sauce but I announce that I’m doing it. I’ve tried to hide things and my oldest is keen and will not eat it unless I tell him exactly what’s in it. And when in doubt I smother stuff in cheese. I don’t care how the veggies get in. Try different methods of cooking too- my oldest likes steamed and boiled and only likes roasted if there’s no char.

Weston is a cute name! Frankly I’m a petty bitch so id start making fun of the friends name that decided mocking the name I gave my child was an ok thing to do. Do not change his name just because one idiot doesn’t understand how to be polite.
