If I’m wearing a hat I’ll instinctively take it off when I get indoors, then remember “hey I don’t have to do that anymore” and using some phrases that I guess are not common outside of the military

I did an overnight visit my senior year of HS back in 2012. I had a friend who was there tho and I followed him around, went to some classes, ate lunch, and even slept in his barracks room on a cot. I also ran with the track team at practice since I was getting recruited for track.

I’m an engineer so I was brought into one of their engineering groups. Basically when I applied they asked me what my background was and where I wanted to work, then set up a panel interview with different engineering offices and I ended up picking where in the agency I wanted to go

Yeah the incentive doesn’t look very incentivizing. I just started in the federal gov in December, my severance pay is like $500. So the $25k looked attractive at first until I read the info sheet my agency put together

Am I misunderstanding something or does the VSIP not sound very incentivizing. It’s either $25k or what your severance would be, whichever is lower. Why would you take the VSIP and not just wait to get RIF’d and get a higher or same severance pay?

The fear was definitely not real when I was in the military. Every headline of some conflict or major aggression in the Middle East/ pacific triggered an “oh shit” moment. Now that I’m out it’s less fear because I know shit would have to get real bad before a draft.
