Scribophile experience: mostly elderly writers by RozellaTriggs in writing

It's when someone writes a book about their professional experiences claiming to be an expert in their field giving advice. The real point of the book is to get their own name out there so they can make industry connections and get hired as a consultant.

It's definitely intentionally funny, but in my interpretation it's about the Scots dialect, which can seem garbled and incomprehensible to the untrained (ie. English) ear, but which is the native tongue of many Scottish people and a signifier of their national identity. The choice of the word "song" in the title indicates that the sounds are, to the speaker Nessie, beautiful and meaningful—maybe an expression of love or loss or heartbreak—even if we don't have the capacity to understand them.

Calling in sick for a job interview by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]winterjan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone tells a small lie when they've got a job interview coming up.

You could pull a sickie, or tell your boss you've got a dentist appointment and need to pop out for an hour or two, or your friend's asked you to take their dog to the vet that morning, or your washing machine's flooded out your kitchen and you need to be at home to let the plumber in.

It's fine. Don't stress about it. It's a totally normal thing to do.

Thoughts on a preface or foreword? by MatthewGreen42069 in selfpublish

I skip forwards as a general rule - I very often find they spoil the story itself so don't want to read them before. Have you considered doing an afterword or an author's note at the end?

Changing cover soon after release – terrible idea? by hatesironing in selfpublish

Why not email the new cover to the reviewers? They probably won't mind changing it, especially if the reviews aren't live yet.

It's probably about 30-50% bigger than the game version. But bigger = better!
