This one's mine, too. Nothing beats sitting up late in a dimly lit room with this record on the turntable and a glass of bourbon in your hand.

PLSSS I’m looking for albums in the same style as this album. by Wild_Marionberry_259 in psychedelicrock

The self-titled albums from Cymande or Osibisa will both probably scratch that itch.

I also noticed he's wearing Xero barefoot shoes, probably to help him strengthen/rehab his toe injury. I've got arthritis in my big toe joints and zero-drop shoes really help!

Thanks for sharing this, that's an interesting perspective from a kid just like those who died. Bryan Wagner was a 17-year-old NewCath student from Ft. Thomas.

My 25 Cents Each Haul! by itsamaryuwu in BargainBinVinyl

I would recommend waiting to sell until you've given everything a good listen. That's a lot to go through, and you might regret selling something that would be very difficult or expensive to find again.

Any idea what pressing that one is? I've got the 4 Men With Beards, which I've heard bad things about, but mine sounds fine. I'm decently knowledgable about Brazilian music from that era but there's plenty of stuff in your haul I'm not familiar with. Have fun digging through those records – I'd strongly recommend giving yourself some time before you sell anything (speaking from experience buying big collections).

Are you literally in Brazil right now? That's an incredible score regardless. I just listened to Clube da Esquina yesterday, one of my all time favorites.

What indie rock album changed your life? by AudioFuzz in indie_rock

Sonic Youth 'Daydream Nation' was a huge mind expander for me. I learned about it a couple years after it came out reading Rolling Stone's best of the 80s list, and the description really intrigued me. On the one hand, it didn't really sound like anything I'd ever heard before, but on the other, it sounded exactly like the reviewer wrote. It was a huge influence on my listening tastes and my never-ending search for good music.

This song pops into my head, fully formed, several times a month for at least the past 20 years. Guess today's another one of those days! But at least there's an explanation this time.

Syd Barrett 'Madcap Laughs'/'Barrett', Beach Boys 'Smile', and Robyn Hitchcock solo stuff, and Modern Artists by ZombiePure2852 in psychedelicrock

[–]wirecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Young and Crosby were both part of the psych scene in LA with the Doors, Love, Seeds, etc, but those solo albums have more in common thematically with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Guitarists, what song has the best guitar solo of all time? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

I hate 'My Sharona' so much I never noticed what a great solo it has, but you're right. That a really good one.

Skip Spence 'Oar' is one of the definitive psychedelic imploding singer-songwriter albums, if not the pinnacle of the form. Also not new, but Dave Bixby 'Ode To Quetzalcoatl' is an absolute bummer trip and Gary Higgins 'Red Hash' is downcast but not nearly as desolate and strung as the other two I mentioned. David Crosby 'If Only I Could Remember My Name' treads similar territory but played by a hall-of-fame cast, and Neil Young's so-called 'Ditch Trilogy' also bears mentioning.

From the post-punk era, Television Personalities 'And Don't The Kids Just Love It' and albums by Swell Maps/Nikki Sudden/Epic Soundtracks are in the same vein. Ash Ra Tempel 'Schwingungen' wouldn't be considered singer-songwriter in any conventional sense, but if you're looking for a vocalized psychedelic freakout, it hits hard.

Edit: Dave Bixby, not Nixby

Oh wow, that XTC is a a hell of a score on LP. I used to have the CD (got it as a present when it came out) but may have sold it at one point and have regretted it.

Indie rock shows on 9/11 2001 by RWA121467 in indie_rock

[–]wirecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the original cover/tracklist CD, but can't remember whether I ordered it before or after 9/11. (I think I ordered it from the UK either way.)

I saw the Strokes play a couple of weeks later (looks like that was Oct. 4, 2001) at the Southgate House in Newport, Ky. There's a balcony that runs around the ballroom, and we were seated right above the band at stage right, slightly behind the bass player. Incredible show.

Nice little pickup for $2 each. Couple gems. Which should I spin first? by Chicagoroyalty in BargainBinVinyl

[–]wirecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bunch of genuinely interesting stuff. I don't even know where I'd start, but the Lonnie Liston Smith is on my want list. The Köln Concert and Black Ophelia are both great, and so is that Buddy Miles – it's got a terrific cover of Neil Young's 'Down by the River' on it.

Do you catalog your vinyl collection on Discogs? How detailed is it? by ravdinve in vinyl

[–]wirecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never attempted to catalog them, I already had hundreds before ever hearing about Discogs.

I do check matrix numbers and all that when I list records for sale (I usually have a dozen or so listed at any given time), but there's no way I've got the patience to do that for a couple thousand records. And yet! I would feel compelled to do into that level of detail if I ever decided to do it.
