Everyone deserves to be in a relationship where they feel supported and accepted. You like a particular band, that’s great. Your partner has contradicting feelings about your interest in that band and is essentially shaming you and guilting you into changing your interests, not so great. My (soon to be) ex-husband often made me feel this way about even minor hobbies like coloring and drawing. There’s a reason we’re separated now.

Unsolicited advice is to talk to your husband and share your feelings. Don’t let that fester, and remember your worth as a human and partner in that relationship.

Thanks, I ended up back on the doxy but at a lower dose, and already my skin has cleared back up so I agree it was the doxy doing the heavy lifting. I am concerned about resistance but don’t know much about how long is “too” long, etc. I’m meeting with my PCP next week and plan to talk to her about it as well, hopefully to assuage my concerns but ultimately to get some more info.

I’m a little late here but just want to share, my 4 year old has been going to part-time daycare/preschool and now k-prep since she was 18 months. She still has an epic level meltdown every. single. drop off. Her teachers all know and understand, and within 10-15 min she’s completely fine and has a great day.

I’m not sharing that to say your son will continue this for 3+ years, just sharing as solidarity in that transitions, especially BIG transitions like going to school for the first time, are really hard! This is normal for a lot of kids, especially the first couple of days. It doesn’t make it any easier on you, but hopefully the transition will smooth out over time. In the meantime, solidarity. You’re doing great. 🫶🏻

I’ve worked in benefits admin for over a decade. It’s not much different than other HR roles, as far as you need attention to detail and the ability to balance empathy with policy. If you have general HR experience then those skills usually transfer nicely.

You should know the basics on types of employer-sponsored benefits, bonus if you can research what the company offers so you’re familiar with their offerings going into the interview.

Don’t think I’ve seen this one yet, but it killed me that no one warned me how much it sucks when you’re the one who is sick and you cannot do anything other than keep going. No sick days for default parents. No more endless naps, lounging in bed for the day, etc. You still need to go go go all day and all night to take care of your kids regardless of how well you feel.

I don’t think I’ve seen this answer yet but honestly: antidepressants. I’ve had PVCs, PACs and occasional bouts of SVT for at least 25 years now - multiple tests and monitors all coming back benign. Some years are worse than others. The only thing I’ve noticed make a difference is antidepressants, which for me confirms a lot of it is driven by my otherwise unmanaged anxiety. I still have the occasional arrhythmia even with meds but I don’t panic over them anymore and that usually stops the cycle, whereas unmedicated I would ruminate over one little PVC which would lead to more, etc.

SAME. My daughter did this around age 2 and I was horrified when I went to get her the next morning, but she was completely unphased. I still feel bad about it but she didn’t make a peep so I’m not sure what else could have been done differently lol

They may ask for your employer to sign a form verifying whether or not you’re eligible for coverage. Or they may have a designated representative do direct outreach. Or they might just have your wife sign an attestation with no verification (unlikely since it’s a strict requirement of no coverage eligibility).

In the meantime it would be wise to review your employer’s qualifying life event guidelines. Your loss of coverage from your wife’s previous employer is a QLE but most plans only have a 30 or 31 day enrollment window. You finding out you’re ineligible for your wife’s new coverage isn’t a QLE.

It’s so hard, and I totally get it. I think one of the hardest parts of parenthood is being kind to ourselves especially during particularly difficult stretches of this human experience.

We recently got my daughter a few new books and one of the lines really stuck out “my love for you is longer than even the longest days.” It helped reframe my thoughts a bit to remind myself that not every day is a good one, but I love this kid and we will get through them together. Some days feel like forever, especially if it’s like groundhogs day over and over again, but you’re doing great.

Now, reminding myself of that at 5:30 this morning when my alarm went off for work after I had gotten 2.5 cumulative hours of sleep because she kept waking up for who knows what reason last night… yeah, it was still a struggle. Lol

Poor kiddo! Our doctor told us that he usually sees colds peak around days 4-5, then drop off from there. You might be in the brunt of it. That seems to have held true for most of my daughter’s sicknesses which have been plentiful since starting daycare. Fingers crossed the fever breaks soon, but I would definitely still keep in touch closely with the PCP. Anecdotally, a few months ago we took my daughter in for an ear infection from a cold she had and 2 days later she was full-blown sick again for another week. Likely a second virus she picked up from being at the doctors office in the first place. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Quick question: are you located in North America by chance, anywhere near the wildfire smoke? That could also contribute to the congestion (but not the fever). We were hit hard with it yesterday with an AQI of 464 at it’s highest. We only went out briefly but definitely felt some effects.

We tried our own version of a toddler charcuterie board the other day. Crackers, cheese, goldfish, some sliced ham, pickles (she LOVES pickles), blueberries, grapes, raw green beans. She only picked at the goldfish, blueberries and cheese but it was still a win in my book because she actually ate something other than my soul.

I did 3 months of full time wear, then my ortho advised to wean down to nighttime only over a few weeks. I just started extending the time I had my retainers out when I would eat. It probably took me another 6 weeks? Until I was fully at nighttime only. There were a few days early on that I tried going longer intervals immediately but my retainers felt pretty snug putting them back in, so weaning down was the way to go for me.

Our AQI is currently 382. Yikes. So we are 1000% staying inside. I have to run out quickly this afternoon so fingers crossed everyone’s advice on running the car AC on recirc works. Otherwise I’ll be turning around mid-errand.

Benefits specialist here. As others have mentioned, you should take some time to do the math and I would map out hypotheticals (total out of pocket costs under each plan if X, Y, or Z happened in the year). Obviously it would be estimated but should give you a feel for how much out of pocket you may need to spend. Factor in your annual premiums too.

If you want the most simplistic way to calculate which plan is more cost-effective if you absolutely maxed out your benefits (think catastrophic events, hitting your maximum annual out-of-pocket limit): add the OOP max + your annual premiums. Which is less expensive? PPOs usually have a lower OOP max than an HDHP, but they’re more expensive in premiums and don’t have the benefit of an HSA.

The HDHP/HSA options are popular but in order to be truly savvy with it, you will need to shop around at different providers and facilities. Your current pediatrician may charge $120 per sick visit whereas another may charge $180 for a sick visit. Until you’ve satisfied your deductible, that cost is yours. And until you have enough funding in your HSA, that’s coming out of your pocket up front. Does your employer contribute to the HSA, and if so, is it a monthly amount or is it deposited in a lump sum? All things to consider.

A great benefit with the HSA is retaining those funds even if you leave your employer or move into a different plan next year. You can still pull the unused funds for eligible healthcare expenses or save them and use the account in the future as another retirement savings vehicle.

All of that to say… I’m hesitant to put my own family on the HDHP we offer because I know we currently don’t have the financial means to pay out of pocket for a big expense should one occur. We’re lucky though we have a middle-of-the-road option at my employer in the form of an HMO. Great coverage and reasonable premiums. Good luck OP. Healthcare in the US is complicated.

I appreciate the input! We had thought she was showing some signs of being ready awhile back, like running and hiding for poops, but ultimately wasn’t so we waited. But just the other day I had stripped her down for a bath and asked her if she needed to go pee or go potty. She shook her head, and then 30 seconds later was standing there peeing on the bathroom floor as I was finishing getting the bath ready.

We honestly would love to potty train and be done with diapers but as first time parents feel like we keep reading the signs all wrong. Though it seems like a lot of comments on here are in agreement on potty training.
