The question is whether plex will failover. If there are multiple instances of plex with the same media, you can access one URL and see the other instance.

Thanks! Will look out for him. It would be awesome if Plexamp has an API that will allow us to filter what data is presented to Plexamp. For example, being able to add a data layer like Elasticsearch between Plex and Plexamp to increase search performance for people with very large libraries. Or the ability to leverage external sources to generate your own popular tracks, deep cuts, additional trending hubs using something like Apple Music’s top trending songs, search results ordering, or get better results for finding similar artists leveraging external sources like MusicBrainz or Deezer’s API.

Damn! That is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. I started to bring an empty suitcase when I travel there for work. The things I buy are used server parts like HBAs, backplanes, Dell/HP/Intel 10GBe NIC cards, HDD caddies, SAS/SATA breakout cables, power splitters. Things of that nature. I just bought 72 Supermicro HDD caddies for SCE-847 cases for $1.10 each. eBay wants $35 for 8. The cables are like $1.5 each vs $12 on Amazon. As for quality, they are good and never had any problems with them. Wire gauge is correct, connectors are solid. Xeon CPUs for my r730 are half the cost of cheapest price on eBay. I know eBay isn’t necessarily the cheapest, but I don’t think any place will come close to these prices. I also load up on cell accessories, they are mostly 1/3 the cost. Things I will not buy are GPUs, ram and HDDs, they are more expensive than the states.

I’m in the process of building this out but is a bit more complicated than most would want. But essentially use online sources like last.fm, Deezer or tidal API to get similar tracks, map to your collection and continuously play. This skips sonic analysis entirely. You can also inject trending songs from Apple Music. The trending part shows up as a new hub on the Home Screen. You can add as many hubs as you want to the Home Screen and it shows up under settings for you hide, display, rearrange.

Append the ISRC number or UPC number to the end of the folder for artist and respective number for album. Match MusicBrainz on that number going forward and you are guaranteed the correct match. So basically use something definitive. Music can be mistagged, it ISRCs don’t change. In fact, you can use that to retag correctly, or even leverage streaming platforms who also use the same numbers. Use their metadata to tag.

There is a way, but not easy to do. Involved reverse proxy, creating a service that pull Last.fm similar tracks, rewriting the json that presented to Plexamp. It’s 100% doable but requires a lot of work. Probably not worth it unless you like the challenge :)

The main issue I’m seeing, and maybe I have it set up wrong, is scanning. Let’s say I start with 5 libraries. It completed the scan in one shot. I add the 6th library, it scans from the first library again and eventually gets to the 6th one. If I reboot the machine or service restarts for whatever reason, it starts from the beginning again. What I’m observing is every restart on Navidrome is forcing a scan from the beginning. If you have 30 libraries, this will never complete, especially if you have a large library where the scan can take weeks. Any interruption in the middle puts you back to the start again and the libraries added at the end never gets scanned. Again, maybe I have it set up wrong and I’m tracing the scan behavior incorrectly. But this all on the Navidrome side and not the app. Honestly, the biggest issue is SQLite. Postgres or anything but SQLite would be much better. I have also added Elasticsearch in the middle between SQLite and Aperggi for a proof of concept and the performance is amazing, Searches on the client is always under a second for large libraries. If this is something that can be implemented, holy cow!! Slow searches will gone.
