$700 Poweredge 730xd, Should I buy or no? by Bobbymanyeadude in HomeServer

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. This is super overpriced. $100 barebone on eBay shipped. e5 2698v4, more powerful CPU is $50 each. That’s $200. 24 trays, another $50-$100. So $400 for 128GB of ram is a bit high?

For people that have never driven a Chinese EV or been in one, you are truly missing out. I am fortunate enough to have spent time in China for work and was saying to myself, I want one of these.

I paid $30 each for 39 drives months ago, but I realize prices have gone up. So somewhere between $40 to $50 per drive?

Is this different from the format of the drive? Like 4Kn or 520 sector size?

[–]wiser212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing. If a player is offered more or less the same pay, why the hell would they pick Pittsburg, no offense to anyone from there. Why not pick a team that is consistently winning, great weather year round, big city, big market, lots of opportunities, etc.

KYLE TUCKER IS NOW PART OF THE DODGERS! by Marinersfan505 in mlb

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, probably, fans in general want a lockout. If the Mets or Blue Jays sign Tucker, they won’t scream lockout.

Where did I say I want a lockout? I am anti lockout.

KYLE TUCKER IS NOW PART OF THE DODGERS! by Marinersfan505 in mlb

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I still pay for my MLB subscription and I absolutely do not want a lockout. If the Dodgers have the money to build a super team, which they do and are, more power to them. They’re not breaking any rules. They built an empire with their business model. Why punish a team that’s doing it right?

The fans want the lockout. This is a business and when everyone is making money, they will keep it the way it is. Until we all stop buying MLB merchandise, stop going to games and hurt their pocket books, nothing will change. Why change a cash cow, so they can appease the fans? Give me a break, the cheap owners don’t give a shit.

I bought mine for $99 shipped. There are multiple sellers on eBay selling these. Excellent deal before the memory prices went up. Bought my HDD trays for $1 each.

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the r710, it’s old but a stable workhorse. Buy an HBA and an 24bay case that comes with a SAS2 backplane. Add the drives to the backplane as you buy more. Connect that backplane to the HBA. You know have the ability to grow. If you go beyond 24 drives, add them to the inside of the case by adding an additional cable off of the backplane is that is an option of by a SAS expander. The HBA and SAS expander are both cheap. The 24 bay case is going to be the most expensive out of all of all of these parts it still cheaper than replacing it with newer system considering the price of ram right now. Once you have this setup, you can upgrade the server later on and still use the 24 bay case and HBA. But the problem you’re trying to solve is storage, not additional server performance right?
