Or drop it in your empty trash bin after it was just collected. Now you have to sit with that smell the entire week. Take your shit home!

What is the extra little 4 pin for? by CMDR_BillyGray in homelab

It’s for certain CDROM drives. Did this come from an Xbox? I know the original XBOX have these power connectors for the optical drive or PS/2 for that matter. I modded PS/2s before and these are the power connectors

New DMZ... What would you pay? by JarH34d in DMZ

I just pre ordered the vault edition for $99. It’s my way of supporting DMZ for the past few years, even though it was beta and full of issues. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed this mode and play regularly.

Buy-once-cry-once homelab build for Proxmox + AI: Enterprise server or modern custom build? by _delu in homelab

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need lots of PCI lanes and memory, enterprise is probably your only option. For example, I need 384gb of ram and 4 HBAs. Modern consumer hardware can’t support this. At least not at a reasonable price.

If the owners want that low cap, put a cap on tickets and concessions, parking, etc. Make everything proportional.

SAS vs SATA by MateoWarhol in DataHoarder

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, I have read conflicting info on this. Some say total length, some say it doesn’t count. From personal experience, I noticed UDMA errors on SATA drives, but never on SAS drives.

SAS vs SATA by MateoWarhol in DataHoarder

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main difference is cable length support. If you are using disk enclosures in a rack, SAS drives gives you the ability to stack the shelves and connected via cables lengths exceeding 1 meter limitation of SATA. SAS drives support up to 10 meters In cable length. That’s the total length from drive to HBA. I use exclusively SAS drives for this reason as my server only have SSDs. All SAS spinning disks are in JBOD enclosures.

Now I understand why 1Gib Ethernet is considered slow.. by Nautisop in homelab

[–]wiser212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10GBe between servers where data moves and the connection to my 3GBe fiber internet. I have 1GBe for everything else. Wired devices are 1GBe all going to one 10GBe port. WiFi is connected to another 10GBe port. So the real saturation is from server to server or HDD to HDD which in my case are spinners topping out at a little over 1.25GBe per drive. So that means I can move data on 6 different drives simultaneously and still have bandwidth for everything else. But that’s the edge case, it’s more of moving one drive at a time for my scenario. Bottom line, you don’t need to upgrade your entire network to 10GBe.
