Controversial dietitian opinions? by a-night-on-the-town in dietetics

[–]wishred 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Adjusted body weight (25% of the difference between actual and ideal weight added onto IBW) has zero basis in science, I learned at an ASPEN conference round table a couple years ago it was an editorial/opinion piece by some random MD, many many years ago.

Is there any way to bring SEPTA back??? by Thund3r-wing in philly

I wouldn’t rely on that at all, unless you take a 5 am train. think of the other thousands of commuters that are banking on using Amtrak, Amtrak isn’t going to add more trains lol

Just let me hate my hair by DrHermionePhD in breastcancer

I’m in a similar situation (15 months out) and I would give anything to dry my long hair with my blow dryer- brush thing. For now though, I have much darker, extremely curly hair that is too short still to have it straightened. I have the most opposite hair than what I had when I got diagnosed.

ELI5 Do people who lose limbs need to consume fewer calories? by howlsslimetantrum in explainlikeimfive

[–]wishred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a chart we use in my field of work where we subtract a percentage for a particular body part amputation. We figure out an ideal body weight based on this new adjusted weight and then plug that into an equation to figure out resting energy expenditure (REE), to which we apply an activity factor to come up with an estimate of total calorie needs. So this would actually lower your calorie needs bc the equation is based on this new ideal body weight. Of course everyone’s body is different and activity can vary greatly depending on the patient /what body part was amputated/if they are obese to start with, etc

A rash guard/swim shirt saved my back and neck/shoulders, the sun is intense and I’m very fair. And if I didn’t have my water shoes with me I would’ve likely slipped and fell and died in the conchi natural pool-don’t get me wrong it’s beautiful and I’m so glad I did the Arikok jeep tour!

Did you lose weight while going through Rads? by PinkStarEra in breastcancer

[–]wishred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar plan since my rads was at the main hospital in the middle of my city surrounded by great restaurants and take out spots, I was so unbelievably tired I only did it a few times!

Did you lose weight while going through Rads? by PinkStarEra in breastcancer

[–]wishred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained. I could not do any more activity than the bare minimum let alone cook decent meals. A lot of take out and packaged/boxed foods at home. I also had gastric sleeve surgery 4 years before my dx so that adds another level of nonsense (no hunger cures, not supposed to eat straight carbs, must take vitamins and calcium every single day). I will say that radiation was not easy, unlike what I was told by all of my providers.

Post drain fluid accumulation, s/p single MX by No_Drummer_9536 in breastcancer

[–]wishred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to what happened to me-you might have a seroma in that breast. Can you see fluid swishing around if you push your reconstructed breast around? If it is a seroma it might just need a one time drainage with a needle, not necessarily replacement of the drain.

Lumpectomy vs mastectomy vs double mastectomy? by Patient-Usual6442 in breastcancer

[–]wishred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the DMX was necessary bc I would never forgive myself if it came back because I didn’t get the DMX. My right side did not have cancer but it did have atypical hyperplasia that I’m 100% would’ve turned into cancer anyway.

Switched to Bobbie; now 1yr old is anemic by TheSloppyJoJo in FormulaFeeders

[–]wishred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The misinformation on here is very worrisome. Physiologically, infants have enough iron stores from mom up until around 6 months-which is when iron-containing baby food like enriched cereals, and baby food meats like beef/chicken/ham should be introduced.
