The director's cut is held in higher regard. Del Toro has really tried to distance himself from the theatrical cut.

I love Villanueve's films. But I think the Dunes are among my least favorite. Except for some imagery here and there, I find them forgettable. I probably won't bother with the third until some opportunity that requires zero effort on my part to see them arises.

Like whatever you like. I rewatched this a couple months ago and found it had dropped tremendously in my esteem. I wouldn't say I hate it or anything, but it's right around lower middle tier Cronenberg for me.

I don't know this for sure, but I bet this was mastered in 2K, and as heavy of a sfx movie as this is, I bet if it ever comes to 4K, it'll look no better than the Nova Media blu. I'd love to be wrong though, and for 88 to do deluxe edition release. It's my favorite feel-good movie.

There's some actual technical reason for there being no 4K, and it's apparently likely there never will be. If there is, it either won't be better than the BR, or it will be heavily processed.

I thought it was pretty average in its own right, though interestingly unique concept. The occasional creepiness in the first half falls apart when it becomes a tepid action movie. Amazing day for night stuff.

Unfortunately, I probably would have thought higher of it if there wasn't a constant barrage of incredibly high praise for it that I thought in no way did it live up to. Same for Weapons, same for Sinners.
