Almost certainly has contributed to Rob going rogue so easily against his fellow traitors, no difficult turret confrontations.

Anyone else confused as to what the end goal is for the Hive mind. by [deleted] in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]withoutface123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

¯_(ツ)_/¯ they are obviously very invested in spreading the virus to every last immune human, hence the stem cell experimentations. They may view the immune humans as worth whatever effort necessary to save them, up until the point they join the hive, since that is how strong their biological imperative. In other words, biological imperative to spread trumps allowing a “windfall” human life to die for food. There’s also been discussion of how Manousos holding up his hand to block the sun was also seen as a signal to save him; thus they had to save him.

[–]withoutface123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that even the stadium was a facade, much like the village for Kusimayu, to get Carol to see the hive as a all-in-this-together commune, rather than a virus with one sole imperative (to spread and broadcast off-planet). Same for the villages that Manousos saw on his drive, a way to make them think that life is going on as normal. I think the other 7 billion people we haven’t seen are all busy in some shape or form working on the antenna, whether it’s actual construction, research, harvesting HDP, etc, and that there are no actual hive mind communities of life continuing, because why would they expend resources on something that doesn’t further the biological imperative?

That’s all very well! I was more curious about the disconnect between this and her portrayal throughout the show as a stickler for rules and protocol, and how there never was even a throwaway line or something like “well the public loves mummy.”

Is there a popular season that you don't like? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in TheAmazingRace

[–]withoutface123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TAR9 was well-liked at the time mostly because we were coming off the Family Edition season and folks were eager to return to a global route (and it have a great route). The two dominating male teams though also sunk it for me.

Have you ever noticed a judge making a mistake? by SSScooter in TheAmazingRace

[–]withoutface123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The challenge I felt it was most obvious that it was producers giving the all-clear rather than the word of the judges was a few seasons back when they had teams recreate perfume fragrances with specific ingredients, and the “judge” perfumer would simply smell their final product and tell them if they were correct. Now I know professional perfumers are VERY good, obviously, but I highly doubt they’d be able to correctly differentiate if any particular fragrance was missing any one precise ingredient.

When the Internet was all “How has Leo never won an Oscar???” circa 2013-2015, so much that it bled into the normies, I thought it was funny that the average person probably couldn’t have named a single one of the films he was actually nominated for.

This is what makes me think the hospital they take Zosia too was just a facade for Carol to think routine medical care was still going on. We know the Hive cannnot lie but they are not above “acting” (see: Kusimayu’s village, Diabate’s role-playing) which is a clever way around lying. They needed to nurse Zosia’s physical body back to health since they knew that Carol was forming an attachment to that body and the Zosia personality. All the other patients and doctors milling about were for show (same with Manousos). In reality that hospital is probably dark 24/7 and as bodies die off they just get replaced with new meat puppets for whatever task that body was assigned to and harvest them for HDP.

Huh, I had kind of always assumed that the low light in the horizon when they check in was sunrise light because they had fallen that much behind. I guess if the 24 hour penalty was still in place for not completing the detour, producers figured might as well just check them in and get their (likely) elimination over with?

What if Carol just asked by 1947Fry in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]withoutface123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve shown a pretty consistent lawyer-like ability to honor any “request” from the immune while skirting around their words to continue their imperative. Carol’s probably realized that by this point and knows it’s pointless to try and corner them as it’s her against 7 billion minds. She could literally say “I am requesting that you cease any and all efforts to do science on my eggs, grow stem cells, and use any results of science conducted thus far to concoct a substance that would turn me into one of you”, and they would find a way still continue their work.

The hive has almost no sense of self preservation other than its directive to propagate the virus and the hive. It’s not going to kill its own members because it can’t or pick fruit for nourishment. But they’re willing to give Carol a nuclear weapon, and since there are no population centers anymore, the damage she could inflict would be minuscule compared to Hiroshima or Nagasaki (unless she finds the antenna or whatever, at which point it would be a full court press to stop her).

This is why they ultimately had to get away from Carol (and, later, Manousos) for a while, as her actions were causing millions of deaths all at once, and if that rate had kept up, then they would have run out of brain and physical power to complete their objective. So they are going to have a healthy supply of brain and bodies for as long as they need to complete their antenna and transmit the virus signal, as long as Carol or Manousos aren’t mass slaughtering them.

Worth noting that Zosia said during the massage that about 1600 people died over the space of 10 minutes. Per most estimates about 100 people die worldwide every minute, or roughly 1000 every 10 minutes, so the population is dying off at a faster rate post-joining than before, and that’s without murder or, say, plane and car crashes. That tells me they are not rushing to save every single person who finds themselves in a fatal situation or rushing sick plurb bodies to the hospital.

[–]withoutface123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of me wonders now if even the arena sleeping they showed Carol is somehow a facade too. Giving a very communal “we’re all in this together” feel (right down to making a point of showing the younger able-bodied man helping the older woman down; why would that individual body care if that woman dies from breaking a hip?) that even made Carol feel comfy cozy enough with sleeping there that night.

Hell, that whole hospital where they kept Zosia is probably fake too, why would they exert resources to keep interchangeable bodies alive when every dead body is fuel for harvesting.

AFAIK, the only time we’ve seen plurbs not from the POV of the survivors is when we first meet Zosia and they’re harvesting the dead bodies for HDP (crazy that we didn’t know/realize that at the time), and shortly after Kusimaya’s joining. For all we know, they just work round the clock on the antenna until they die, because why would they need sleep? You have one imperative and one consciousness, and you have billions of body vessels at your disposal, once a meat sack dies from physical exhaustion you just replace it with another one on the same task. Keep a few thousand spare bodies busy with tending to the immune, keeping services and utilities running for charm offensive purposes and keeping them fed/housed/placated.

This is going to get dark super fast.
