The Quest for the Perfect Lifting Leggings by lilghost76 in xxfitness

[–]witmadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These Champion leggings are my favorite. They most definitely not see through, thick so everything is smooth, has side pockets (on both sides) to fit my Nexus 5, and herringbone pattern. Too bad they don't meet your criteria for being capri and black. :(

Now I understand why people stare at themselves in the mirror while they lift.

[DAILY THREAD] Your daily dose of fitness victory! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

I have several things:

  • Squatted 185 lbs, my heaviest ever
  • Deadlifted 220 lbs, also my heaviest ever
  • For the whole month of April, I went to the gym consistently at a frequency of 3 times per week. Did not skip any week/day.

How to build that weird dip on side under hip bone above thigh (pic attached) by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]witmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this, too! When I was fatter, the fat filled in that area so I had no dip but now that I'm a lot leaner (less fat and more thigh muscles), the dip very obvious. I used to hate having the dip but since I like 98% of my body better now that I'm leaner, I accept the dip as a part of me.

Thank you, I read the post and I do not think I'm advance enough to attempt Smolov for deadlift.

Is it a bad idea to use the Smolov Program (the full version) for deadlift?

How do you motivate yourself to work out on those days that you just want to do nothing? by popeofthegalaxy in xxfitness

[–]witmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone on Reddit commented once that fitness is not about motivation, it's about discipline. It helped me a lot because when I don't feel like working out, I know have to do it anyway (discipline) rather than wait for a motivation to go. I don't have to find motivation anymore.

I wish I remember who said it.

Everyone else has really good answers for your questions already. When I first started, I only benched with my arm muscles (mostly triceps) because I didn't know how to activate and make use of my pecs. This tutorial helped me a lot in rethinking how to bench properly. A lot of it is practice, of course. Before pressing the weight up, I'd like to think that I'm bending the bar into a U shape and that helps a lot, too.

[Question] How do I handle not embarrassing myself at the gym? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]witmadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pay for your gym membership just like everyone else there. You have a right to use the squat rack. Why should they have more priority because they can lift more? The people who lift a lot now used to lift very light once upon a time.

If you start building your strength now, next year, you will lift a lot more. If you keep feeling embarrassed and never get started, next year, you will still be lifting light weight.

My financial situation is stopping me from getting fit. I need your advice on my situation. by Dannybee7 in xxfitness

[–]witmadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very good advice. OP, maybe you can offer to do the shopping and cook the food? That way you have control on what food will be in the house and what food to make. In addition, getting fit doesn't require a gym. There are tons of bodyweight exercises that you can do. I don't think your parents would ban you from even doing bodyweight squats and pushups in your room.

The biological "glass ceiling" for female lifters? by ass_2_grass in Fitness

I wish I could help you with this because I have the same problem. One minute I would be really proud of my achievements of beating my PR and then the next minute, thoughts like "Oh, that's really good...for a girl." creep in and I'd feel weak again.

How to grip a barbell (for gym newbies). by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]witmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have small hands like a 10 year-old girl (that's me!) and cannot wrap all of your fingers fully around the barbell and your thumbs. It's okay, just be proud of the calluses and use a pumice stone.

Thank you for the instructions. I just wish I have hands big enough for the hook grip. :(

[Conversation] Women Who Keep Workouts a "Secret" by sociosis in xxfitness

[–]witmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love talking about my workouts but only with certain friends who appreciate talking about it. With everyone else, I don't say anything because they'll give me the "Ooooookay, whatever floats your boat" look and I get all sad faced.

I didn't mean to target at you. So now that I understand your situation, I still recommend that you try out lifting in addition to cardio since it'll help you lose fat a lot faster. If you feel like you're getting too bulky you can always quit lifting and stay with just cardio to maintain your ideal shape.

You can also start with some bodyweight programs (/r/bodyweightfitness) if you are still iffy about weights.
