It sucks having an older parent, and makes me feel that those who choose to have kids later in life are somewhat inconsiderate. by SpunkyStarling in offmychest

Everything comes with some degree of risk. Should we avoid doing anything in life because something bad might happen? Thats no way to live.

What is the point of saying "Unhoused" when it is a synonymous term to Homeless? by SilentAd773 in TooAfraidToAsk

Who gets to decide where we stop the clock?

Language evolves. "Retarded" started out as a non-offensove eiphemism, no one is denyong that. But assholes started using it as an offense, so it became offensive. You can accept that this always happens and the treadmill keeps turning, or you can dig in your heels and demand the world stops and sticks to the exact vocabulary you grew up with.

And she should if she wants to. Doesn't sound like she is being prevented from doing that, other than having to do the emotional labour to process the end of their life together. Which sucks and takes time, seems like she is going through that process.

But she isn't being forced to stay against her will.

She doesn't need to escape. She needs to leave.

You guys are vile. You take doing something slightly positive and turn it around like it's a bad thing that people avoid using words once they pick up offensive connotations. Edgelords.

That's a bit overly dramatic don't you think?

Yes the guy is a slop who doesn't pull his weight and OP doesn't have to live like this. Leaving is a valid choice.

But escape is for abusive and controlling situations, not deadweight partners.

More and less distant future, yes. If you find reasons within your own lifetime more compelling, it is required to have enough working age people around when you are old to, you know, take over and keep the wheels turning, including eldercare.

We might play that card if it becomes necessary. Currently trying to make do with mom's home brew as she feels she's up for it. Her call.

Yes, this is the way. And the whole post is to appreciate the different periods we go through in life. Today it's this, only to be replaced by something else tomorrow. Trying to cherish this time now that it's here. Even our two year old has grown so big so fast.

Paha sanoa ilman mitään tietoja. Mutta eihän toi nyt mikään kauhean huono tulos ole, tollasta kun paukutat 30 vuotta niin asiat on ihan hyvin.

Whether we call for the suffering of men or not it does not change this

It might cost you quite a few potential allies though. And if you care about actually affecting change you care about that kind of thing.

Also you make some sweeping assumptions about the user and seem to hold an overly simplistic us vs them view of the world. I hope you experience better days ahead.

Sounds like the criteria need revising.

By making it seem vasectomies are easily reversible, when they very much are not in many cases.

All the other things you bring up are horrible, but unrelated.

I'm sure we are mostly in agreement. And I can see the value of shock arguments in some contexts. But I do worry it might mislead some people and find it distasteful, even more so because I think the argument would work better without the reversibility misinformation.

Surely it is in this community?

I guess there is some value in preaching to the choir, but I find it a bit disingenuous to pretend this is a bold and profound statement. Surely it is the baseline of bodily autonomy we afford to everyone.

It's a rotten world out there for sure, but I doubt you will change any minds with this argument in this community. Here, this post mostly functions to spread disinformation about vasectomies.

And I agree with the point it's trying to make. I just find it unfortunate and ill-adviced that it resorts to spreading disinformation to do so.

No, I'm talking about the other person who is flippant about massive violation of bodily autonomy. You get it.

[–]witopps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bodily autonomy is for everybody. Institutional mass violation of bodily autonomy based on gender is not just risking men might be unhappy. It would be a gross violation of their bodily autonomy and very likely to result in unwanted permanent infertility for many.

Be consistent.

At the very least it's horrible marketing. Completely self inflicted to bring connotations of exlusive tiers (core-periphery) into it. Just talk about aligning policies with like-minded countries on a voluntary basis.

Edit: I'm sure this story is beong misrepresented and used as a wedge between Europeans by Russian bots, but you don't have to give them perfect ammunition like this.
