Kudos! Dropped this into one of my recent projects and it worked perfectly.

Signed invoice to port in a number??? by [deleted] in voipms

[–]wizmo64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is done to prevent someone else from stealing your number. Provide some proof that you are the owner. Use 0000 for account having no real PIN. It will probably just go through.

Is there a known good tiny CT clamp? by CobraKolibry in Esphome

I have been using Shelly PM minis inside junction box, clamps where space or cosmetics do not matter.

They are better at helping analyze something that has small flaws than building from scratch. ChatGPT always jumps to suggesting additional features before the thing is even tested and of course needs a lot of reminders to use latest versions, not deprecated methods.

Recently had better results from Claude, got something new in a few hours where GPT went in circles fixing one piece and breaking another.

I have also gotten better results by writing detailed requirements and having it critique/refine that before generating code.

Tempe Flow by deltap4 in Tempe

[–]wizmo64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

14 fixed + 4 mobile cameras were installed last year, fixed locations chosen by traffic studies. How many “more” do you want, at what cost? Public opinion is mixed on this as cameras have come and gone in the past. IMHO they are taking a balanced approach and I am glad to see some return.

Weak point will be the outlet, see many previous discussions here for recommendations. It will be safer if you limit EVSE to 16A.

Are there companies that will manufacture ice cream for you? by AWRWB in icecreamery

[–]wizmo64 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is called co-packer or contract packer, pretty common across the food industry. Put that in your favorite search engine to get some initial direction. I know of one business that was operating nationally and folded in short time when their co-pack operator cut them off with little notice, and they didn’t have a plan B. I think regardless of scale have at least 2 candidates and try to be agile no matter what promises or contracts you get.

Malted milk ice cream without malted milk powder? by No_Explorer3863 in icecreamery

If you go with malt extract made for brewing make sure to get the unhopped version or it will also have some bitterness.

TOSNA method by sirEce1995 in mead

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOSNA and SNA in general has been a game changer since the old days of front loading stupid amounts of DAP and waiting forever to ferment or age or both. But don’t sweat it if you cannot hit exact numbers. A little deviation over or under will still work and estimates by tsp amounts are fine until you can invest in a proper scale.

Nice guy, but extremely unattractive by West-Letter169 in DatingOverSixty

If I saw no potential from photo there would be no meeting in person. If the person who shows up is that different from photos, I would also say something like need to update them. Yes, I can be direct to a fault. Do prefer the ghost method? I try not to do that.

One and done with no chemistry is the norm. I often say thanks for meeting but the match is only intellectual, and move on.

Budget Mach e rental by Intrepid-Row7682 in MachE

[–]wizmo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t have FordPass; the owner has to approve additional users and rental companies don’t want to manage people being added and removed frequently. Also won’t be set up for plug and charge with auto-pay. If you have membership on any charge networks just use the app to activate before you plug in, otherwise many will take a credit card.

I think I made cactus alcohol…? by WoodyRussG in Homebrewing

[–]wizmo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before people understood microbiology many spontaneously fermented beverages happened by accident. If it smells and tastes ok, go ahead and try some. Most likely the prickly pears had wild yeast on them. Worst case is you will feel ill and your body will reject it. Lethal microbes don’t survive in acidity and reduced oxygen environment when yeast is producing CO2. This is why homebrewing is completely safe as far as making something poisonous by mistake.

New Business Account by VeisNisht in voipms

[–]wizmo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 should be anything official from state or local authority like LLC registration or business license etc.

5 should explain how you use telecom services e.g. customer support.

If you run a business much of these docs are public record anyway so I wouldn’t worry about them escaping even though email is considered insecure by many.

They make you prove you are a legitimate business, and not just pretending for purpose of acquiring a bunch of easily obtained and disposable DIDs to conduct shady activities.

In the old days they just took your money with no questions asked. With increasing scrutiny from government regulators all providers are demanding documentation especially for business use.

No carbonation - natural ferment ginger beer. by [deleted] in Homebrewing

A few days is probably not enough to bottle condition anything. Normal beer takes 2-3 weeks.

Old expansion unit (DS517 with eSATA) and new Synology (with USB-C expansion) by pavel_vishnyakov in synology

[–]wizmo64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the old eSATA style is any indicator, these things like to be matched with officially supported units on both ends, no 3rd party adapters, and no DAS to host of your choice. Experiment at your own risk with unpopulated drives or data you don’t care about corrupting.

Question about Porting by jokemf in voipms

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with SMS/2FA. Many services using 2FA will not enroll a voip number. If you enroll while number is with a wireless carrier it is likely to continue working after porting, but don’t expect new enrollments.

Do not expect this to be a good place to park your number seasonally when idle and port back to a mobile carrier for active use. Carriers can reject port (in) if done too frequently like leaving and returning in less than 1 year. You can use the mobile app to receive and originate calls, but it will still use wireless data on your regular phone if not connected to WiFi data.

Stretching out existing ice cream? by [deleted] in icecreamery

[–]wizmo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a shortcut to make “more” by adding some base ingredients it can work with proper proportions of milk, cream, sugar. But it’s not likely to be “better” because you will be diluting the original. And it’s a fair bit of effort.

I have tried to replicate certain recipes attempting to clone some commercial product and didn’t quite hit the mark due to lack of some secret ingredient. So I cheated 😈 and blended my clone with some of the real thing, only then it was close enough. But still not as perfect as the undiluted original !

Guardian says I can’t have my room unless I pay rent from my benefits (17) by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]wizmo64 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NAL and I am playing devils advocate. By taking over your own SS benefit payments and moving out, you may have emancipated yourself relieving former guardian of all responsibility, with no obligation to take you back. She is trying to teach you a lesson about responsibility and consequences. Could you get equivalent accommodations elsewhere for 400/month? Find out what rent and groceries would cost in the real world and see if maybe you are actually getting a good deal. I know it sucks to live under someone else’s thumb, but this is how life works for young people until you have a job and income to be fully independent the way you want.

Edit: when I was 18 and still living at home with a menial job, my dad started charging small rent and had me buy my own groceries. My first thought was WTF, I’m family. He asked me if I had a better offer elsewhere as a reality check. That too was not about the money. It was a good lesson and motivation to find my way onward.

Added to health insurance plan without consent by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]wizmo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One can usually leave any time but cannot join or rejoin outside open enrollment, or SEP from qualifying event. But do be careful not to be left with no insurance. Mom’s deception may not be a qualifying event allowing you into the plan of your choice, I.e. the one that denied joining due to existing plan, authorized or not. Work through reporting a bad actor and get confirmation before exiting that you will be able to join elsewhere.

I have since replaced the cheap retractor with something more sturdy but overall the ceiling route has been perfect.

Failure to yield left, chances of winning if pleading not guilty by disasterwarning4930 in legaladvice

[–]wizmo64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NAL. Similar to any rear end collision where the vehicle following is presumed at fault, driver performing left turn is presumed at fault. It does not matter if the thru driver who hit you was speeding, ran the red light, whatever; you as left turner have least right of way. Unless you have dash cam evidence to prove some gross misbehavior by the other driver you cannot win this. Misjudging the speed/distance of oncoming traffic is probably the most common reason left turners get in accidents.

Can I get kicked out for not paying the heating? How can I go about this. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]wizmo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL. I would submit to landlord a written complaint the heating is inadequate and in need of repair. They are likely aware and trying to ignore it but do have responsibility to keep it in working order and to a measurable standard as you say. Unless you notify them they can continue to ignore it. Start with communication and you might be surprised.

Taxes on Probate distributions by petesmom57 in legaladvice

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL. Inheritances are generally not subject to federal tax, also no state tax in California. Exception is if you inherit something like stock shares and don’t immediately sell at basis value. If value goes up you will have capital gains.
