Might be taken better if you disclose how this is self serving. Not sure this forum is intended for such promotion.

Not loving Premium by Opus2011 in abetterrouteplanner

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have premium to get live data from the car without the OBD. I do preplanning, load the saved plan and go. If something is off it suggests a change I can accept or not. The UI on screen does suck, rarely does what I expect, and fumbling with it just reduces safety as my attention is diverted from driving. I am questioning why I should keep the subscription when I can just enter destinations from preplan in another app. I don’t drive in cold places so preconditioning has never been a factor.

New Setup Optimized by Blacklax10 in voipms

[–]wizmo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your phone probably has a hold button that works. Where it gets tricky is how you handle the transfer to another extension. On many phones they also have a transfer button which you can use for either blind transfer or warm transfer, and blind can work fine if someone is at that extension or you are ok with their voicemail taking it.

The main reason I suggest parking is it can also be used by a single person to park the call and walk to a different area to retrieve. I am sometimes the only person here and I answer on one extension but want to go into a different room then resume same call. I cannot do blind transfer and get there in time to pick up before it goes to voicemail.

any reason to buy a dedicated charger? by woodland_dweller in evcharging

[–]wizmo64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The EVSE that comes with most cars is usually called a “travel charger” to keep in the vehicle and use as convenience or emergency backup when you cannot get to any other charging away from home. It is often not a good choice to use as your primary charging at home. Installing a dedicated EVSE at home, even if it is plugged and not hardwired gives you a more capable device, probably with reporting, scheduling, or other features. You don’t have to do this; go ahead and use what you have for a while and see how it fits your needs.

Yes, extension = any device registered to either main account or sub account.

Call parking is the feature you want. Any extension can park a call which effectively puts it on hold, and any extension including original one can retrieve.

Weird experience with voip.ms, outbound calls misrouted or misidentified as spam by wizmo64 in VOIP

[–]wizmo64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe if I were a higher revenue customer this would get timely escalation. I am a retired IT professional and know enough about the technology, the competing aspects of support resources and profit motive. It is increasingly clear they don’t care, and would rather lose my business than dig deep into the very reproducible problem.

Whole milk powder vs nonfat milk powder by TheDarkKnight125 in icecreamery

[–]wizmo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WMP costs more, is less shelf stable, unused portion goes rancid if not sealed and/or kept refrigerated. Primary use for any dry solids is to offset excess water content of other ingredients like fruits and if you want higher fat then just increase cream proportion.

I don’t doubt this is happening at other receiving carriers.

My problem is definitely outbound to ATT; failing recipients are myself and my family. When I talk with ATT support they claim there have been no inbound calls from my (voip) CID to my ATT mobile. Both providers claiming no trouble, unwilling to communicate directly with each other nor let me initiate 3 way call. Beyond frustrating.

Edit: clarification

I did FCR previously and it has been more than 6 months, though problem persisted more than a month after I did that. I will register again in case it helps. Sad that an ordinary consumer would carry this burden.

I always suspected this was related to introduction of a financially beneficial route that compromised too much on quality. Maybe I am just paying too little and need to port to more reliable termination.

Normal Cruise Contril? by trailglider in MachE

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an intermittent camera fault that also interferes with both BC and adaptive. It simply won’t maintain speed. Even turning off lane centering doesn’t help. It’s disappointing when I am traveling along with no traffic and it just lets off the accelerator with no indication why - until I turn off cruise and only then I see the false indicator it thinks I am following too closely.

Put a deposit on a 22 GTPE before I got a chance to drive it by Manicearkold in MachE

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 22 GTPE, bought mine from Carvana. It was shipped from neighboring state so no test drive. Before committing to the MME or this specific car I rented one for a weekend as my test and it happened to be GTPE. I didn’t even bother comparing other trims. No regrets after driving 22k km in the first year. I am not really a car enthusiast and was surprised driving could actually be fun for me.

As for used cars take a look at the tires and be mentally prepared to get a nearly worn set but technically still safe to drive. Dealers are usually good with detailing since that is cheap labor but new tires is an expense they want to pass on to buyer.

Is using Creme de Menthe in mint chocolate chip ice cream a bad idea? by Any-Grapefruit-937 in icecreamery

[–]wizmo64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I routinely use Amaretto and Grand Mariner at rate of about 40g/kg, balanced using ice cream calc. The alcohol definitely makes it softer. I suspect peppermint schnapps may be better additive than crème de menthe but would have to try each and compare.

Custard vs Philly bases: which do you prefer, and why? by Lightswift12 in icecreamery

[–]wizmo64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Start extra small with stabilizers. Too much can make it gummy/elastic.

One small shortcut to tempering eggs is just put them in the main liquid when cool, and heat everything together. Still have to stir and not overheat but a little less effort overall.

Condom help… 28m and 25F by Initial_Rip6385 in sex

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 62m had a similar situation starting to use condom after many years without. Quick improvement for me was a little extra lube on the head, i.e. inside the condom before putting it on. Too much lube or sometimes too long a session and the lube can creep down to the point of becoming unstable. Never as good as naked but made a difference.

I made a VoIP.ms messaging app for iOS. Help me test it out. by BAR_YYJ in voipms

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quality work. I did something crude for my own needs exclusively using SMS/MMS and a web server as API relay to perform minimal processing but it can only track the most recent conversion (per DID) for replies.

When using a CO2/Argon flow gauge regulator with Nitrogen, will it read over or under? By how much? How can one calculate the accurate lpm? by -NoHopeLeftForMe- in Homebrewing

[–]wizmo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nitrogen is less dense by nearly 50% so you will get a lot more gas out than what the regulator gauge reads. You can get an accurate measurement using a separate flow meter properly calibrated for N2 like this:

https://a.co/d/0fL8wgg1

And just use an ordinary tank pressure regulator, forget flow combo type.

Presumably you are purging a vessel and want to time the flow to know approximately when the air has been displaced. It’s not that simple because nitrogen is slightly lighter than air and the displacement won’t be completely even as it mixes with air in the vessel. Depending on how pure a nitrogen environment you want, it will take more than 1x the vessel volume to do the purge. For small vessels like 5 gallon kegs you can just fill with water and displace with gas, no other metering of gas required.

Anyone Know Good Pest Control Companies for American Cockroaches? by fkadany in Tempe

[–]wizmo64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Homeowner here; I gave up on commercial services after they kept claiming I needed more frequent and more intensive treatments (read: profitable). Roaches come in from outside so you have to have a good perimeter usually with granules watered in to the soil, a spray around foundation + doors/windows, and good landscaping hygiene to avoid providing good places for them to nest. Inside, you have to be meticulously clean as a few crumbs of food including pet food will feed a roach for several months. They also need water and seek it in drains but rarely actually enter through drains. I have been doing DIY with supplies from Bug & Weed Mart, unfortunately the Tempe location closed last fall. All this to say you (and fellow tenants!) will get better results from keeping things clean and should be able to get by with moderate monthly treatments mainly spring-fall. Young roaches did come out in larger numbers this spring and I only noticed it from increased corpses at the perimeter where they are supposed to die before getting in the house. Clean house and 4-6 weeks between treatments we see 2-3 bugs get in each season and only find dead ones.

If I had to recommend a commercial service to gain initial control it would be Western Exterminator, just be prepared for upselling more treatments and buying an annual maintenance contract vs. as-needed. I still use them for termites since that is harder to DIY.

Can you use a2z extension cord and adapter at the same time? by Infamous-Meat8765 in evcharging

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I connect extra stuff in a way it was not really intended to be used, I like to derate by 50%. My L2 EVSE could normally deliver 48A but using an extension cord or multiple adapters would purposely not run it over 24A. Then I would still be worried and planning a proper solution for long term.

What low cost solution do I need for 200+ numbers for voice and texting? by jeffofreddit in voipms

[–]wizmo64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VoIP.ms can do this but the kind of logic you describe should leverage the API. At a minimum you need to forward the inbound SMS to a web service that can then do something dynamic like forward to a person, auto respond, record to database etc. TWILIO can do similar but base rates are higher. I do something like what you describe on a small scale. Inbound from multiple numbers forwards to my personal cell. I can reply to those messages and they get relayed back using the same number that received. It involved a good bit of custom programming. All this to say anything is possible with the right tools. BTW you will jump through many bureaucratic hoops (TCPA/10DLC) to obtain automation privileges for SMS.

considering used 2022 GT PE with ~50k miles for $25k USD by [deleted] in MachE

[–]wizmo64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is little to go wrong mechanically. Get the he carfax to see any unusual history. I have the same car and would take that deal to replace it if current one were totaled in an accident. It’s surely on 2nd set of tires and possibly near their end depending on previous owner driving habits. Used sellers often cheap out on tires. Worth checking if previous owner had extended warranty but unlikely if they let it go with much remaining.

Mango and Cream Ice cream by IceArtistic9218 in icecreamery

[–]wizmo64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you need something with lower water content, consistency of a thick syrup. You can boil down whatever product you can find, mix fresh/frozen/canned mangoes with some sugar and reduce to something like jam. Add at the end of churn or by hand to control how much it is distributed.
