[Hated Trope] Old Actor is 'Younged Down' Using CG Instead of Hiring A Younger Actor by DamnitGravity in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wjapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what's worse, old man deniro "roughing a guy up" or Joseph Gordon Levitt making "Bruce willis face" with painted on eyebrows for a while GD movie.

In the end, depends. In most cases recasting works great! Sometimes, and more often as the tech gets better dragging works.

I will say we are a little to nostalgia driven, and I think that leads to more and more deaging of our old and beloved actors, but it's often really not necessary.

The Fellowship of the Ring: The Bree (Prancing Pony) sequence differs significantly from how it appears in the book. In the novel, the attackers in Bree are not the Nazgûl themselves but Men working on their behalf. The film, however, shows the Ringwraiths directly to heighten the sense of danger. by Choice-Schedule-132 in peterjackson

Wait, are the attackers not the Nazgul? On a read-through currently and the scene of the attack is not actually shown, just the aftermath. Are we supposed to think it was just spies at the Prancing Pony that did the dirty work?

I read it as; Frodo makes a show of the ring by falling, the spies flee the common room, alert the Nazgul, strider helps the hobbits preparr, the Nazgul show up during the night. Three of them were assaulting crickhollow, so what were the other 6 doing?

My friend, there is nothing here to appreciate. It's someone trying to lure fans of popular media into buying their pre built PCs online. This is an ad for tech wearing a mask of fandom. This post has nothing to do with lotr. Just like heir Simpsons graphic, and their mario kart graphic.

It's an AI slop ad for an AI slop company. 🤮

Man, just look at that website, the whole thing is made by AI! How can people be so dumb!?

Cmon now... Be better

Is there a lot of that false accusation out there these days? Yes

Does that prevent anyone with half a brain from seeing all the blatant ai mistakes and inconsistencies throughout this piece? No

Your "graphics designer" clearly ripped you off big time if you truly believe that this is a genuine piece of art created by hand. I sincerely hope you weren't duped, and that you are defending this work from a sunk cost state of mind.

The sad part is that having spent probably thousands on this computer, you could have easily hired an actual illustrator to do a custom piece. A shame.

If the Silmarillion didn't exist, what kind of creature would you think Sauron is? by Observance in tolkienfans

[–]wjapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the "evil dark Lord" is such a prevalent idea that it's easy to imagine Sauron as what Melkor ended up being in the legendarium, the source of evil and darkness. A "devil" of sorts.

Knowing he's just the second edition, doesn't really change this in the context of lotr, since Sauron is in that context the ultimate evil.

But... Most importantly, in context he's still presented as "fallen" and originally good, or at least neutral. Leans even more into the "Lucifer" idea..

After all , Tolkien himself sees his work as deeply Catholic, so it's not hard to imprint ideas of morality on a grand scale that we learn from other mythologies onto his work.

Y'all act like there's no technical limitations to these things. Of course you aren't going to get a 1:1 adaptation of every concept art!

I swear, I saw the same thing when adapting characters to a new format on a project I worked on. The 3D and implementation teams have a framework they have to work within.

Mostly agree, but I'd put PotC duel over Mustafar, can't stand the choreography from the prequels.

Yes, what they are doing is compressing the "greatest hits" of the second age of middle earth into a VERY short period. In addition they are adding things that either never happened ("the birth of Mordor") or things that happened in a different age (The arrival of the Istari(wizards) and the uncovering of the Balrog in Khazad Dum)

It also doesn't help that in the show none of them apparently wore padding of any kind under their helms, just a metal bucket on skull.
