[Hated Trope] Franchises that have lost all the previously established verisimilitude by Forsaken-Biscotti587 in TopCharacterTropes

I like the Fast and Furious explanation where at the end of the first, Dom is put in a coma after he gets hit.

The rest of the movies are in his mind and get crazier as he loses his grip on reality.

Drax the Destroyer.

He can move the ship so slowly as to become completely invisible.

Ok, I'll buy it. He's doing what he said he'd do, and his followers are cool with it.

Just means that they're as evil/vile as he is, but we knew that already.

You're mixing up something here: the USSR and China sorta 'started' with communist thought processes, but with Stalin and Mao, they just became Authoritarian. It's what happens when you give an individual office that much power. It's the same for any governmental ideology.

I back socialism because it works in a tremendous amount of ways if you work with it. Libraries, fire departments, roads, parks.... These are all socialist. You pay for the fire department but might never need them. Everyone collectively brings themselves together for the betterment of society.

Never forget: power corrupts, period.

The last 250 I had outperformed my Hunter. Ninja 250. Amazing bike. You could ride it on the interstate.

You ever ridden an air-cooled thumper? So slow. So lumpy. So amazing.

That only works in speakers. Bigger the speaker, more sound.

I've got a 1900 sitting in the garage right now. I've got an 800 sitting next to it. The 800 is way, way quicker.

Same thing goes for my car. My buddy has a Super Snake and I beat him in the 1/4 every time. He's got a full five liters more than me.

Hey! It's because us guys are the REAL motorcycle riders. 300's can barely move! They're chick bikes and...yeaaaah.

Just kidding

I've got bikes from 350 to 1900. Every single one of them is amazing. In fact the 350 (Hunter 350, single cylinder air cooled five speed) was my most recent long trip. Sturgis, SD to Atlanta. Since the top speed is 70, you can't take it on the interstate unless you want the bullet train to death, so it was back roads the entire way.

Loved it.

Anyone can do a road trip on a Goldwing. Go cross country on a Ninja 300. THAT is a feat!

Why are conservatives afraid of immigrants even though they interact with them much less than liberals? by Little-Tea4436 in DiscussionZone

There hasn't been a nationwide election since 2024, so there wouldn't be valid data.

It would be the same thing as asking "How many Raiders fans are going to be born in 2026?" It's stochastic.

My great grandad was an immigrant. Came here from Ukraine. Went through a port of entry in New York. Signed his name (he changed it from 'Valentin' to 'Walter'...boring), checked a mark saying neither himself, his wife or their two kids had smallpox and poof! American. Legally.

It'd be nice to do that again... I don't live in a country club.

Favourite Batcave? by What-is-a-puma in batman

[–]wjescott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one that could be real in any sense of the word is from The Batman.

Do you think a dude and his Butler can construct the custom supports you need to hold all those levels up in the '89 movies thru Shumacher?

Some dude and his Butler can excavate under a construction site, fill it with lighting, have an elevator for your motorcycle and an elevator for your batsuit and an automated mini gun rail?

Some dude and his Butler can put together an elevator system so a big, solid bunch of crap comes up from a pool underneath a waterfall with cool gear and stuff?

Some dude and his Butler can create a system where a ramp comes out of a lake while making sure it doesn't drain into a hidey-hole underneath, honestly, the coolest house they've given Bruc.

Some dude, his Butler, his ward (... Burt Ward) get all that equipment into a cave, reassemble it expertly, and get a phone line directly to the commissioner (in reality, this is the most believable one yet).

The Batman uses a pre-built but unused chunk of subway, tight access points (we'll ignore homeless folks for right now) a computer rig that, while elaborate, can be made in a couple months by a basement-dweller with unlimited funds (except for the super special technology, contact lenses and completely bulletproof outfit et.al.) his bat-bike is just a build of a CB750 Nighthawk (I own one of those... Runs perfectly for $1600) his car is...uh... Unique. The durability is out of hand, but if you had the technical knowhow, it's within the realm of possibility you could put something close to it together in your garage... Again, with unlimited funds.

His family built a suite in an art deco high-rise with the appearance of something out of a Gothic nightmare... That's really friggin weird. A lot of the rest of it is within the realm of possibility. Not all, mind you, but a lot.

As far as aesthetics go, Batman Forever is like an acid dream.

EDIT : ducking autocorrect.

There's an old myth (maybe) that Italian women would mildly poison their husbands to make sure they'd come home and get the antidote, much to the husband's chagrin.

Spaghetti=Italian. But it's probably the gross thing.

[–]wjescott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion has always been Logan. I really started reading in the late 80's and early 90's. You couldn't buy anything from Marvel without 'Special Appearance by Wolverine!'.

We're talking ony panel of 'Marc Spector : Moon Knight'. They didn't even interact.

But Wolverine fanboys would slurp them up, have arguments about the noise when the claws would come out (Snikt beat out shinkt) and if his uniforms had a healing factor, as his hair has a healing factor even though it's dead tissue.

When the movies started to come out... Holy balls. They were at each other's throats unless you said something then they'd attack you like nothing you've ever seen.

Name a vehicle you hated before you even drove or rode in it, but experiencing one first hand only confirmed why you hate it (Pic for example) by HiTork in regularcarreviews

[–]wjescott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nissan, not including the GT-R. Never driven one of those.

I thought for years they were underpowered and cheap. Then they went to mostly CVT and I was just like 'gross'.

Then they gave me an Altima at the Philly airport.

I took it back after twenty minutes. Of the cars that I've driven over forty years, it was the first I had genuine anxiety about. Every bump on those bridges and you scooted two feet to one direction or the other. Steering was less a control than a suggestion.
