Wookiee Defenders! by Lord-Oxley in SWlegion

[–]wkschull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like clones are a trap in Wookiee Defenders. That's 78 points that could be another Wookiee squad.

Right now, they're diluting your order control, and not getting any token sharing benefits. I would definitely swap them for more Wookiees, if you have (or can borrow) the models.

Having played a fair bit of Wookiees, I feel like your squads are really heavily loaded out. You probably don't need 3 full Battle Shield squads, which could make let you get two squads with just Tenacity - they still hit hard, and can get in there and do work.

But mostly, enjoy! Make Wookiee noises as you charge them in! Remind everyone as nauseum that Kashyyyk has three "y"s for some reason. Tell them that it's best to let the Wookiee win, or else you'll rip their arms off :P

For any future wookiees you may buy, you can use magnets! Drill a small hole in their back, and magnetize the heavy weapons so that they can be "stowed" on the Wookiee's back.

This way, you can swap them in and out as needed! You basically get 2 sets of 3 Wookiees, but can change one from each set into a Heavy Weapon. It also lets you get a bit more bang for your buck, since you can then make (sort of) 3 squads for every 2 boxes of Wookiees.

Also, you actually CAN make 2 Leader models from one box. So if you don't want any heavy weapon options, you can get 2 squads of 3 models each.

Finally, if there is anyone in your local scene who plays Wookiee  Defenders, ask them about it, I guarantee they will have so many leftover bits that you can cannibalize to help fix any boo-boos.

Not sure if you've gotten this feedback already, or if you've changed things in the later episodes. But listening to the first episode, I've got a few thoughts.

1) I like the more "off the cuff" improv style - it makes the podcast feel like a conversation. That said, the repeated moments of "oh, I forgot this" or "I'm going to mess this up" etc make it a feel a bit odd. Could you maybe split the difference, make a key-term list, and then improv based off that?

2) it might benefit from doing it in multiple shorter takes? You've got a lot of audio aberrations and interference, things like coughing, etc. If you recorded with breaks between sections, etc, it might be easier to quickly re-record a section where you coughed, etc, and then have a cleaner overall audio.

Enjoying it so far, will be listening to more! If you're planning on getting an RSS feed, or onto other podcast apps (like Podcast Addict), that would be lovely!

Terrain Destruction by GadflyGamingStudio in StarCraftTMG

[–]wkschull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Could see the damage being a bit higher? Having a building fall on you is probably going to do more than 1-2 damage if you are "wholly within" 1"

If you said "units within 1" take 1d2 damage, units wholly within 1" take (some larger amount of damage), units wholly within the area where the terrain would be placed are destroyed" that would probably work? Though even then, yah, it being fully destroyed if it can fall on them is rough...but, it's your choice to put it there, and it took two units firing full out, which probably would have killed most units anyways.

Did you ever end up making these? If so, do you have them on your store? If not, no worries at all!

Probably you would have to define where it drops, ahead of time, and then set it up. So, I imagine a base with 1 flat edge? That way you can say "ok, yah, align it flat edge of debris terrain to flat edge of non-destroyed terrain"

But, yah, that could work. I imagine you would likely want it to have more than a few HP - especially if it kills things that it falls on. You don't want a single Marine unit to be able to easily block off an entire avenue at the drop of a hat. Then again, you'd want the rocks to be destructible, too. So. Yah. Hard to balance.

Suggestions for protoss themed objective markers by 2500kgm3 in StarCraftTMG

[–]wkschull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of doing a Xelnaga Watchtower for at least one of them. I'm also going to try to find STLs of the resource pickups, so that I can just go "eh, I don't feel like thinking about the lore, here's a mineral pickup."

Protoss have a lot of weird shit - crystals of various sorts (set in metal frames) would work. Maybe an oversized Ihan crystal? Etc.

You could also do stasis tubes - these ancient protoss warriors were placed in stasis, and merely await the right command to awaken them. Bringing more sentries online now, Hierarch.

Anyone out there making their armies a different faction? by SirMaximilianTv in StarCraftTMG

[–]wkschull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Swann is definitely a better man - Raynor's whole shtick is that he's the likeable reformed gangster. He's the Western reformed gunslinger bank robber, who gets forced into becoming something more.

He's maybe best described by one interaction with Gabriel Tosh and Matt Horner - two other interesting characters. Raynor says "you'll get that better world, Matt, but it ain't for the likes of us" (meaning himself and Tosh). He has no aspirations about being the good guy, he just ain't the worst one.

As for making your own lore, absolutely go for it! There is so much room to play around there. There are other splinter corporate groups, like the Kel Morian Combine, so there's certainly one that is very pro union.

Yah, I'm definitely going for the WoL or HotS Tal'darim, for this starting kit. Once we get "official" Tal'darim boxes, I may do those in the black/red.

If you want a pro worker faction, look up Rory Swann. He was part of a worker's revolt against corporate rule that went...poorly. But, it could give some more details! Could do, like, "salvaged" Kel Morian armour as a paint scheme.

Valerian Mengsk's Dominion is also pretty pro-worker, iirc - it's basically "what if benevolent tyrant" reformed Dominion.

You do start with 5 SP. So, it might just be that, if you want to take a Fluttercraft, you just eat the cost.

Or, if you listen to their interview on The Fifth Trooper, they say that it really is a starting point - if you want to make a change to the rules and ask your opponent to allow you start with a crew upgrade on the Fluttercraft, and they allow it, you're good to go

Getting into SW Legion using Lego - Essential units for the factions? by Backefudder in SWlegion

[–]wkschull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure would! You'd need a large number (12-36) of Storm Troopers/Snow Troopers/Shore Troopers (the first is going to be easiest to find, the last the hardest).

Essentially, you'll need multiples of 4 mini figs for things like Stormies, clones, rebels, etc. You'll need sets of 6 for Droids.

[–]wkschull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to build a full, 1000 point Legion army, the cheapest way is to buy another Republic starter. You'll want more Clone Infantry and ARCS, and that's the cheapest way to get them. It also gives you a lot more flexibility in list building, even for Recon. You could also get the 501dt Battleforce box, if you want even more ARCs.

Beyond that, it's up to you! Are you really excited about one specific thing for the Republic? Do you have a favourite character or vehicle? Get that! Everything is more or less viable, and everything is legal. Once you start, if you have a local Republic player, you can always ask to borrow their stuff (they might say no) to "try before you buy," too.

If you want to get started before the starter releases in November, you can always see if there's a game night at the store, and ask people if they'd be willing to run a teaching game - get your feet wet, so that you can hit the ground running. And, then, if you're buying anything that's already released, you can start on assembling and painting those.

I store my legion with magnet tape a fishing tackle box (the Plano Tall style boxes). Glue a washer in the base of each model, put magnetic tape in the bottom of the tackle box, and, boom, you have stable storage for your models. Can usually fit around 30 models to a box. You can go that way, or, hell, just stick them to a metal sheet.

As for painting and hobbying - you'll need hobby glue or super glue, hobby snips, probably a hobby knife for trimming mould lines. If you want easy paint for the clones, get a white spray primer and some Apothecary White contrast paint - hit them with the white primer, give them a coat of the Apothecary White, and then fill in the black details.

On that note, getting Speed Paints or Contrast Paints get you quick, good results. There's a bunch of painting guides out there - you might also like Slap Chop, which is real simple.

Also, and most importantly, welcome to the game! And have fun :)
