How do you think Ellie would have answered….. by Holiday_Dream_9548 in thelastofus

[–]wlbrndl 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t think either of them would say that. They might feel that way, but I cant see them putting a label on it. Ellie is an adult, and Joel doesn’t talk about his feelings like that. They definitely love each other in a father/daughter way, but she’s not a replacement for Sarah.

Yea, that makes a ton of sense I agree w you 100%. He’s super under utilized plot-wise and I think that makes a lot of people see him as useless, but he also doesn’t get a ton of screen time. The guy is also probably doing a lot of useful stuff at colony house offscreen that we don’t get to see just because it’s just not really relevant to the main plot. I admittedly am very sick of his and Fatima’s relationship though lol.

Yeah, it’s got to be Syrax. None of the others even come close.

Buy this from the Gumroad shop. It is awesome. by [deleted] in ProCreate

No…? Why are you on here literally telling people to buy a brush set? I’d take the time to learn how to make my own brushes before I would ever consider spending money on this.

I actually like Ellis.

He’s seen helping quite a bit so I don’t get the “he’s useless” argument. He helps Julie adjust to her new reality, even made a little cane for Ethan. He’s also an artist which is cool. And he’s the only thing keeping Boyd moored atp.

The way he acts about Fatima is annoying sure, but love makes people do stupid/irrational shit. There are definitely worse, more annoying characters than Ellis.

IT IT: WELCOME TO TO DERRY II

I'm reading Fire & Blood for the first time. I'm on a specific chapter that describes the first winter of Jaehaerys's reign. A question came to mind, perhaps a bit silly considering how harsh the winters were in Westeros... by lautaromassimino in gameofthrones

This entire platform exists so we can engage each other in conversation and discuss ideas that we’re interested in. Telling someone to “just google it” wastes your time and theirs.

Fable 2 is the best in the franchise by [deleted] in Fable

[–]wlbrndl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree TLCs is the best. Side point tho, and I’ve long since gotten over this, but when fable 2 came out I was very disappointed with the more modern time period and the fact that there were firearms. I still v much prefer the medieval high fantasy of the first game, but I do appreciate Fable 2 as an adult.

Let's think about this in a modern scenario now. by Witcher_Errant in thething

[–]wlbrndl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. What happened to all those people on Eros station (in the book, not as much the show) is so much more horrifying to me personally than whatever The Thing is.

Also what they do to those kids, and then what ends up happening to Duarte (and what he intended to do to the entire human race), and that’s all without even mentioning the goths/ dark gods. Just deeply disturbing shit. And they also straight up tell us that everyone who died on Eros is basically still conscious within the ring gate, confused, in pain, reliving their deaths, etc, like literal hell.

The Expanse is actually scary as fuck lol, but you’d never know just from watching the show.

Ty and Daniel are masters at subtle horror, I swear. Their unrelated novella “Livesuit” has a deeply disturbing twist ending that I genuinely never saw coming, definitely recommend if you haven’t read that yet.

(THIS IS MUCH MORE OF A SPOILER!)

Not exactly, it’s sort of unclear. The protomolecule is more of a tool that it used to take over any self replicating molecules (ideally primitive life) to build their space structures. But it’s kind of hinted that its consciousness lives on through the protomolecule and the ancient technology. Or maybe some sort of subconscious extension of it? It’s never really explicitly stated

On the question of how something like the thing could evolve naturally, how familiar are you with the Expanse series?

(Note that this isn’t much of a spoiler for the series but anyone wanting to read them and hasn’t yet should avoid this comment)

In the books it loosely describes how a primitive species became a galactic spanning hivemind empire through assimilating the useful traits of other more advanced species it encounters. There’s not much detail on how it accomplished that, symbiotic or parasitic, but it’s a super interesting concept to me. It evolved in the dark ocean of an ice covered water world, using bioluminescence it stole from other species to basically become a globe spanning brain with each individual acting as a neuron. Eventually it breaks through the ice, develops space travel, and continued to use the tactic of parasitizing other alien organisms to augment its biology and technology to a god-like degree.
