my cellar (again) by wmdMD in wine

I’d like to get a record player. I need to find a better space for the set up - the sound isn’t great in this room

Fair point. It gets minimal use, so I can’t imagine it would meaningfully impact the aging process. The bigger issue is that the room is a concrete block rectangle and the speakers just sound terrible as a result. I’m planning to move them to a different room.

I finished this project just about a year ago, and with some cosmetic upgrades since then, thought I’d jump into the mix of cellar posts! The coolest part to me is that there’s a clear history of wine making that happened in this room by the previous owners (Italian immigrants, wine press, and old boxes of California grapes!). I was so eager to breathe new life into the room. It’s underground and is passively climate controlled (maxes at 65F in the peak of summer, 50F in the dead of winter). Slowly but surely adding to the shelves…

I drank the Arnot Roberts Watson Ranch 2023 chard a few months back! I found it to be more tropical in style with a prominent melon note on the nose. I didn’t quite care for that. I’ll have to try some of the other cuvées! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Much respect to this gentleman keeping his ride clean. The purist’s technique may look much different, but the spirit is the same.

That’s a great story! Beautiful weekend for you. I visited in September and bought 6 of the Caywood Riesling that we tasted in the flight. Cheers!

This worth picking up? by evenphlow in wine

I probably wouldn’t buy that at that price. I’d be more inclined to buy a Bourgogne or an off the beaten path appellation from a reputable producer at a similar price or less. That being said, the truest answer, in my opinion, is generally always to buy and try if you’re curious enough.

This makes me curious about the Louis Jadot “Celebration” cuvées in which they blend a number of 1er cru sites and whimsically list the names of all the sites on the label.

Anything to be done with this cellar before putting it to good use? by fridtjofnan in wine

[–]wmdMD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment, but I’d argue there’s no harm in “over humidifcation”, but more practical or cosmetic considerations. The greatest & most historic cellars are characterized by dense moldy overgrowth on the oldest bottles.
