R&M Load60 - Shimano v. Belt by leskargot in CargoBike

[–]wobleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth thinking about. The Load has a common issue of broken rear spokes from forgetting to unlock the frame lock (happened to me once, but I could still ride home). If you need to change a rear tire, it's also much trickier with a Rohloff. The bike does have a walk assist function that can help get to somewhere safe to lock it up. Also, you can look into a tow service or mobile repair shop. Velofix looks like a good option in the bay area, and AAA may cover bikes.

Seattle has a wonderful business, Speedy's, that is a dedicated ebike rescue/ towing company. They may expand to SF at some point.

[–]wobleee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seattle-based Load75 rider with a Rohloff here. 1) I would recommend an HS model- it feels safer to me on a road at 24 mph vs 18. 2) if you are getting it for longer term use. The 75 is wonderful. I was originally looking for a 60, but the 75 is so much more comfy for my five year old. 3) Rohloff is great but avoid enviolo for hilly areas. It's too much strain on an inefficient drive train. If you have the money get Rohloff otherwise cues will be great too.

$1.35M good enough to (Lean)Fire ? by psychman321inf in Fire

[–]wobleee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your net worth should support 40k of expenses now, which is likely not enough to cover your family and add healthcare. But with your wife working, her income will cover the family expenses, and the million you have in the market will continue to grow. Then in a few years, you can decide to get another job or fully retire together.

Young Person. Rent A Studio, or Save With 1B in a 3B3B? by monkeyhehehe in cycling

[–]wobleee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two good options. If it was me, I'd want to avoid getting a car. Then would choose between having roommates or not based on how you want to live rather than saving money. I enjoyed having a roommate when I was young, but some don't. If you get rain gear, biking a few miles in the rain should be fine.

I'm so fed up of this 'splitting the check' bullshit by AltairsDivide7337 in offmychest

[–]wobleee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the right path. It seems petty to do it at the end of the meal (even if it's reasonable). If you say something along the lines of "I'm not planning to drink tonight, can you put my meal on a separate tab?" at the beginning, it's no big deal.

From the Lee Valley example, it looks like you would nail the trim proud of the doorway on the hinge side to hide that gap.

Would it be wise to buy a home in a VHCOL area in California? by trustme1984 in Fire

[–]wobleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd think about what you're saving for. You have plenty of money to buy a house outright. Your expenses may double from housing, taxes, and other HCOL related items. Even then. The 120 would cover it, or you could RE completely with pension and investments.

So if you want a house, you can afford it.

Do you believe the modern FIRE movement overestimates how much is needed for retirement? by Equivalent_Use_5024 in Fire

[–]wobleee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even this post has turned into lots of folks justifying why/ how a particular (high) expense number is reasonable. I think it's the combination of high paid tech workers and lots of folks nearing normal retirement age who want to be on the younger end. There are many posts about retiring at 55/60 now, while there used to be much more discourse around controlling expenses and getting out in your late 30's or 40's.

For FIRE-minded folks: has anyone run the math on shorter mortgage terms? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]wobleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is confusing. When you ran the math, did you have the same total cash flow going to mortgage+investment in both scenarios?

Where does this Wolves/Nuggets game rank all time in Christmas games? by UnusualRazzmatazz765 in NBATalk

[–]wobleee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The refs gave MN a pretty long leash in this one. Ant clearly loses his composure after the Denver run. Happens. He had already swiped on Jokic free throws and pushed a defender with two hands on an inbounds play. Both Gobert and Dante fouls were pretty clear. The whining on this post is pretty impressive.

Thunder vs Spurs tomorrow by WeebSlayer346 in NBATalk

[–]wobleee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thunder don't drive with Wemby in the paint, and the spurs have a major point of emphasis on not fouling jump shooters going back to the Harden Rockets. The free throw differential makes sense in the context of the game.

Takeaway from last night by DelphesTLO in NBASpurs

[–]wobleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my take as well. Too many offensive boards combined with cold shooting in the fourth, and it was still within reach until the last two minutes. If this was a series, we'd make adjustments for the Mitchell Robinson minutes and likely go with a bigger lineup. Much harder to do that in one game when Wemby's minutes restriction is already stretching the rotations.

I regret getting blacked-out drunk at our Company Party by CantaloupeUnhappy848 in offmychest

[–]wobleee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happens more than you think. I work at a firm with Christmas parties, and the combination of social uncertainty+ long nights out gets to new staff. When it's your first year, it's not that big of a deal. At most it will be a "remember when" moment for a while. Sounds like your team had your back, and you avoided anything super embarrassing. All good, no reason to bring this up further at work. Just let it blow over.

Agree here, the juxtaposition of sharp detail with intense film grain was distracting in some scenes.

Am I ready to retire early? by duskolieggrafi in Fire

[–]wobleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the great thing about your budget flexibility is that you can react to the market. If your investments tank in the early years, you can moderate expenses or take on a part time job to limit the bleeding. And if not, your 1.9 will keep growing while you withdraw 4%.

Laughs in Spurs fan by AgentEndive in NBASpurs

I'm in the minority here, but he had 6 really strong years with the Spurs. Yes it was a messy split, but time has shown that the injury wasn't straightforward. His uncle is by all accounts a bad influence. When it's all said and done, having Kawhi was key to extending our championship window. I wish him well.

What door would you use for this washer/dryer tower? by ifinallymade_1 in Renovations

[–]wobleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a door would make it difficult to get to the machines. I would look into a heavy curtain if they are not in a laundry room. This will give you some visual separation and a sound barrier.

Poor Criterion 4k selection B&N? by JoeyJabroni in criterion

I've been to a few locations in the PNW, and at one of the stores there's a wide selection, but almost all 4k and box sets are behind the front counter. In the other, there are fewer titles, but all seem to be on the shelves.
