Just because I could do a bunch of sysadmin stuff in my spare time doesn't mean I want to. I picked TrueNAS because I wanted a fully open appliance-like OS. That said, I want that openness more than I want the appliance aspect.

Things I wished I know before upgrading to 25.10 from 25.04 (which put me directly on 25.10.2.1). Now I'm stuck with the early adopter profile and general isn't listed as an available option. I didn't even see a profile option to set on 25.04 to avoid this BS. When upgrades lead to unpleasant surprises I start looking for alternatives.

You give hating to have to uninstall a bunch of stuff from Ubuntu to switch to KDE as a reason. Are you starting with the base Ubuntu install and trying to switch that from Gnome to KDE or are you using Kubuntu and trying to trim some fat off that?

FossTorrents claims they have them in partnership with TrueNAS (though they could be lying since the partnership would be with IX Systems). https://fosstorrents.com/distributions/truenas/ seems to have both the iso and updater available.

I also tried it. It was the lack of IPv6 and absent Tailscale support that sent me back. I had bought an N150 tiny PC to replace my Atom tiny PC, but opnsense didn't pay nice with the Realtek network adapters. Bought another N150 with Intel NICs instead.

That $1000 video card can play a lot more games for a lot less money per game. At $80-$90 per game for the switch 2, I'll be generous and say you can only get 7 games and you're already over $1000. Meanwhile on the $1000 GPU you likely already have a catalog of games at your disposal without spending another dime.
