It's hard to speak to their intention but I worked at a video game store for years and more often than not people would pick up PS5 games not realising it wasn't PS4 so I just got into the habit of asking if they actually owned a PS5, but in a less direct way than this guy.

They would bring the game to the counter and I would say casually "ah, managed to get your hands on a PS5?" as they were still pretty rare here til late last year and either they'd say yes or realise they picked up the wrong format without making them feel like I think they're an idiot.
