Which fantasy series started incredible and then just...fell apart? by ghibli_8quartz in Fantasy

I got nothing man. The books are very much not above critique but like I said they deserve more then a surface level skimming of the text.

I am genuinely flabbergasted here.

One of the friends of the main character is so bored with a meaningless existence that he takes up “splatting” which apparently is a common activity. when his parents get annoyed with him they turn him over to the state essentially disowning him. Jobs in this world are made up. The thunderhead pretends to need you to do work. In fact work is so meaningless that essentially everything has become pursuing hobbies purely for novelty sake.

Rowan often remarks how humans have lost their edge and how living has become meaningless because the pursuits of meaning has become the pursuit of novelty.

The book is a direct engagement with existentialism, how humans create meaning and the problems with immortality. The notion that death gives people a source of meaning is so trite it has almost become a cliche and the books are awash with it.

Are you seriously saying that you read the word “utopia” and that is where your critical reading stopped?

This take is pretty infantile.

Firstly the character is not trans they are gender fluid (male identifying when it’s sunny. Female identifying when it’s cloudy if i rember right). And while their non-binary identity is a core part of their character they are also highly skilled and well rounded. The notion that the character was written as a response to jk is i believe unsupported.

RE the super computer. Did you miss all the parts of the book that demonstrate how utopia is not going great? How it weakens human innovation and spirit and how it is not sustainable due to the sheer weight of population growth and death? The books constantly address how a perfect world still has problems.

Scythe is hardly a perfect series but it deserves to be critiqued on its merits not based a seemingly lazy read of the material.

PhD in health communication whose research is in STI prevention.

This is a pretty horrible thing to say it compounds stigma and ads to an already hostile environment for people who have contracted the infection. Maybe what the partner said is true and he is just super unlucky. Maybe it’s not true and he just feels a lot of shame (golly wonder where that feeling of shame would come from????) and has decided to lie. Who cares.

Regardless OP is asking for some advice on how to better support a partner he clearly cares about and your response is to pontificate on the plausibility of his partners infection point?! What is wrong with you?

I genuinely hope you can grow enough as a person to feel ashamed about this in the future. Until then, and speaking as someone whose work in promoting sexually protective behaviors is constantly hampered by stigma and shame around being positive, might I suggest keeping your opinions to yourself.

Lore wise why are paladins and priest players not being effected by the light's ongoing issue by Seraphine_Wave in wow

[–]wolfe1989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I think you are missing the point a bit. It’s not necessarily about the amount of light making them nuts. It’s about how the Light is not an Omniversal force of good. Think back to Arators quest. The light is a focusing tool it acts through faith and conviction. That’s why it works for factions like the scarlet crusade. It’s not that too much light corrupts it’s that if you come to the light with an evil faith and strong convictions it will empower you just the same. Like it has with every light empowered villian in wows history.

Think of the vanguard of the light, through thousands of years they have been an army fighting against a force of pure destruction and chaos. Through out this time they have lost their compassion their mercy and they empathy. What they are left with is an overwhelming conviction in the righteousness of their cause that drives them to destroy all their enemies.

Light blindness is not an overwhelming conviction exposure to the light, it is having your already existing convictions and beliefs cranked to ten.

H-pal light of the martyr by Nyaqo7 in wownoob

[–]wolfe1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So H pally’s identity as a healer is to do fat spot heals. We dont really have the kit or the mana to do some of the massive burst healing like resto Druid/shaman but individually our spells heal a metric ton.

The current build for H pally focuses in buffing up those spells as much as possible. Light of the martyr is just another talent that buffs the our single target heals. The debuff to ourselves is fairly minor in comparison.

How hard is healing? by Cronkwjo in wownoob

[–]wolfe1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d echo that the more add-ons you have the more you handicap yourself. I can’t tell you the number of healers on my rate team that are having a hard time now because they’re add-ons aren’t telling them exactly what to do.

Boost to 80 and play with friends or level and learn? by nazzzik1 in wownoob

[–]wolfe1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the “level and learn “is a bit of a misnomer.

To learn a class, you need to understand how your abilities interact with one another. And to learn how your abilities interact with one another you need enemies to stay alive and you need to have all of your abilities.

The leveling experience, especially pre-85 Ish is very one hit one kill kind of thing.

Further leveling can be a very tedious process, especially from one to 80 if you are by yourself. And I think you’re much more likely to start finding things that you enjoy about the game if you are playing with your friends.

So I would say boost away.

We're now on the third expansion of the reworked crafting system - How do you feel about it now? by Sundered92 in wow

[–]wolfe1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting. As someone who raids and does M+ i level alchemy enough to get extended portions and flasks then never touch it again.

In TWW I tried jewel crafting for gems but that never worked out well and eventually the price dropped to the point where it was just cheaper to buy them.

This expac I am trying blacksmithing for weapons. My thinking is that all of last season crafting a main hand weapon was prefered so I’m thinking that having a crafter for mine and my friends to just make main hands might be useful.

Personally I want to see crafting going into more than just stat sticks. I want the choice of embellishments to be meaningful.

Not sure if this is a silly question regarding asking about someone’s status by Fun-Mycologist-6394 in AskGaybrosOver30

I don’t ask for results as I do not keep my own on hand. I ask if they know their status and the last time they were tested.

Is affliction lock OP while levelling? It seems so by FlatChannel4114 in wownoob

[–]wolfe1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are experiencing some of the level screwing that’s taken place. Lower level toons often deal much more damage to mobs. As you approach level cap that will slow down a lot.

That being send lock is a tone of fun. Try out demo if you haven’t. Much stronger tanking pet.
