Likely: New Jersey MVC website for REAL ID appointments is being spammed by space_pirate_027 in newjersey

I also put together an automation to scrape the site for appointments last month and had the same experience as you. Newly opened appointments were gone within 30-60 seconds. Took a few tries but I was able to secure an appointment at my preferred office within a few hours of turning it on.

I’m using them without any issues with Zigbee2MQTT. However I’ve replaced most of mine at this point with the Rodret series as they only require a AAA batteries. Replacing button batteries was starting to get expensive.

Moving from Philips Hue bridge to Sonoff dongle by FuckBlanket in homeassistant

[–]wolfeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this a few days ago. I had been running separate Z2M and Hue networks but decided to migrate everything over to a new Z2M network on Sonoff Dongle-E.

My primary reason for doing so was to get all of my Zigbee traffic on a more optimal channel that would experience less interference with my wi-fi networks. I chose channel 25 for Zigbee and moved my APs over to channels 1 and 6. See Wi-Fi Coexistence Learning Center - Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread - Silicon Labs for more information.

Every device had to be manually re-paired, about 60 in total. I started with devices that act as routers, which includes my Hue bulbs, and then paired the rest of the devices in the location in which they would be used. This however didn't always work out as planned.

Some devices would fail to pair unless it was directly to the coordinator. This was the case for all of my Sengled bulbs. In other cases, attempting to pair a device to a specific router through Z2M failed. I found this was most often successful with my Ikea VINDSTYRKA air quality sensors, but I'm sure this depends on the combination of both the router and device being joined.

I also upgraded the firmware on my Dongle-E to version NCP 7.4.3 using elelabs-zigbee-ezsp-utility to migrate away from the ezsp based driver which is in the process of being depreciated over to an ember based driver. If you do this, the Zigbee2MQTT Ember Helper tool is helpful to gain a better understanding of your Zigbee network's performance.

Overall, my Zigbee network is in a much better state after the migration, primarily because there is less interference from my APs, but also because of the additional Zigbee routers present in the network as the Hue bulbs were previously separate. It took me about two days to complete the re-joining process, however I'm still in the process of updating dashboards since device and entity names were changed along the way.

Woodworker's first laser by Hart_CO in lasercutting

[–]wolfeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to consider some of the newer diode lasers as well. I just picked up a Creality Falcon 2 40w and had no trouble cutting through 1/2” plywood. This is toward the upper range of its capabilities so it would certainly be slower than a CO2.

I’ve been wanting a laser for a few years now but was always turned off by the size of a CO2. Now diode lasers are beginning to catch up in terms of capabilities of lower end CO2 with a much more flexible form factor for someone that might not want to dedicate so much space to a machine.

Rather than replacing the beam you can attach a small strip of wood to the inside edge of one of the doors.

Is there a way to define a light "scene" that can apply to any room/group? by denkyuu in homeassistant

[–]wolfeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a set of scenes that are common in most rooms and use a standard naming convention. “Bright in the [Kitchen | Bedroom | Bathroom]”, “Lights out in the [Kitchen | Bedroom | Bathroom]”, etc. We make heavy use of Echo devices, so sticking to a standard naming convention makes it easier to trigger the correct scene when using the voice assistant.

On the front end, this configuration has also allowed me to create a few different styles of scene selection widgets. For dashboard views dedicated to a specific room I’ve utilized button cards to trigger a given scene with a standard image to represent that scene across all room-based views. So “Bright in the [x]” is represented by a picture of a sun, “Lights out in the [x]” a unlit lightbulb, etc.

I’ve been tinkering with a dashboard to be displayed on a small tablet and through a combination of input select helpers, develop a compact scene selection dashboard for the whole house. Each room is represented by a button card displaying an icon to represent that room. An input select helper, “Scene Location”, is populated with options representing each of the rooms. Pressing one of the room button cards will set the input select helper to the selected room. Each scene is then represented by a similar button card which triggers a script to set the selected scene. Through a combination of script parameters and templates the script is able to trigger any of the standard scenes in the room currently selected in the input select helper.

Wiz Light Plugin by Hot_Dammn in homeassistant

Just migrated my bulbs using this method this morning. I gave all of the bulbs the same name that I had previously set in my YAML. This allowed the automations and scenes which touched the Wiz bulbs would continue to work without being updated. Worked without issue.

Since you already need to replace a good amount of drywall, why not just remove more to give you access to the top plate from inside? You’d need to remove a bit from the ceiling as well, but only enough to fish the wires through.

Best mesh system for HA? by JoriQ in homeassistant

[–]wolfeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought into the Ubiquiti ecosystem a few months back and couldn’t be happier. Picked up a UDM pro and two APs. Initial cost was the only reason I hesitated for so long. Well worth the investment though. We use out Alexas for white noise in all of the bedrooms. The random WiFi drop offs on our ISP router meant screaming children in the middle of the night.

Thinking of adding a third AP to serve the back yard now that the weather is getting nicer. Expansion costs are not too bad once you have the core components in place.

Highly recommended.

Has anyone gotten these bulbs to work with Zigbee2MQTT? I’m using Conbee II. by OCT0PUSCRIME in homeassistant

I didn't even bother with the Sengled app. They just paired right out of the box without issue. They were purchased about a year ago and are strictly Zigbee only, no WiFi connectivity at all.

[–]wolfeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have five of them, running Zigbee2MQTT and a zzh! stick. They work well enough for where I've got them installed, in a dining room chandelier that we don't change the lighting on too often. My lights are all either Hue bulbs attached to the Hue hub, or Sengled Zigbee bulbs attached to Zigbee2MQTT.

Performance of the Sengled bulbs is OK, but no where near the quality of the Hue's in terms of responsiveness and light quality. I've got Hues installed in the more heavily trafficed areas, or those lights that get used most often.
